dichromic acid, it undergoes stepwise oxidation to give the final end product X.
When Compound X is heated with Na, Compound Y is formed. Besides, Compound X
can be converted back to the primary alcohol (CH3)3CCH(CH3)CH(CH3)CH2OH when
