ABOUT THIS MANUAL

Purpose
This training manual is for training use only and does not
replace approved procedures of the Aircraft Maintenance
Manual Supplement (AMMS). This training manual is
only an aid to the student when participating in the
Panasonic Avionics Corporation Original Equipment
Manufacturer (OEM) training program.
The training manual meets the ATA 104, ISPEC 2200,
and JAR 66 development standards for the Line
Maintenance Technician. The training content intends to
fulfill the knowledge requirements for level B2
maintenance personnel, supporting theoretical and
practical proficiency of the eXPhone system portion of
the Cabin and Interior Furnishings certification standard.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of this module of instruction,
the learner will:

Describe system and component functional checks as

specified in the maintenance manual supplement.

Identify maintenance practices important to the

eXPhone system.

Interpret reported and observed abnormal system

behaviors and BITE reports.

Define the general layout and characteristics of the

eXPhone system.

Strategize repair based on fault diagnosis to minimize

impact on the eXPhone system.

Recall the safety precautions observed when working

on or near the eXPhone system.

Demonstrate knowledge of the main ramp and transit

activities pertaining to the eXPhone system and
power supplies.

Describe the eXPhone system handling with respect

to access, power availability, and sources.

Identify and use appropriate documentation

associated with the eXPhone system.

Identify the locations of the principal components.

Explain the normal functioning of each major system

including terminology and nomenclature.

Locate the procedures authorized for ramp and transit

servicing of the eXPhone system.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Primary Objective
Using detailed reference content and practical application
(when possible), this course provides guidance in the
operation and maintenance of the eXPhone system to
maintain a high level of readiness.
Course Outline
1. Course Introduction
This section provides the course learning objectives,
course outline, safety information and an acronym list for
use throughout the manual.
2. General Description
This section provides characteristics of the eXPhone
system with an emphasis on system features and
capabilities. Support personnel receive a general
familiarization with the eXPhone system basic
architecture and overview of system characteristics.
3. LRU General, Physical and Interface Description
This section describes major equipment racks, expands
on details of the eXPhone system, and provides details of
the individual LRUs.

4. System Interface Description

This section describes the overall system signal flow for
each eXPhone service in terms of power distribution,
signal types, protocols, discrete signals, and networking
between the eXPhone LRUs and aircraft interfaces.
5. Maintenance Description
This section emphasizes routine operation normally
conducted during flight and on the ground, operations
relevant to sustaining, testing, and repairing the eXPhone
system, and how to conduct and interpret BITE reports.
6. System Troubleshooting
This section provides tips for troubleshooting the system.
Topics include identifying symptoms of abnormal
behavior; elaborating fault symptoms; recognizing and
isolating faults to an eXPhone function; and
troubleshooting the faulty function to a Line Replaceable
Unit (LRU).
7. System Operations
This section emphasizes routine operation normally
conducted during flight by cabin crew personnel.

SAFETY AND HAZARD AWARENESS NOTICE
Warnings, Cautions, and Notes (Human Factors)
Warnings precede content having the potential to
harm, injure, or kill if not obeyed. Warnings consist of
three distinctive parts; the action required for avoiding
the hazard, details of the hazard, and consequences
of ignoring the warning.
Cautions precede content having the potential to
damage equipment if not obeyed. Cautions consist of
three distinct parts; action required to avoid the
damage, reason for the caution, and the
consequences of ignoring the caution.
Notes provide additional information that aid the use
or understanding of the equipment or subject.
Electrical Shock
The eXPhone system contains voltages hazardous to life.
Maintenance personnel must obey all safety precautions
when servicing the eXPhone system. Do not place
beverages and/or liquids near the eXPhone system when
servicing the eXPhone system. Energized connectors
remain exposed with Line Replaceable Units (LRUs)
removed.

Multiple Power Sources

The eXPhone system uses multiple power sources from
the aircraft power busses. Do not remove or install any
eXPhone system LRU with power applied. Isolate the
LRU using remote or local circuit breakers, zone power
control, or switches. Reference the Aircraft Maintenance
Manual Supplement (AMMS) for power-isolation
procedures.
Electro-Static Discharge (ESD)
The eXPhone system contains components susceptible
to damage from static discharge. Use ESD grounding
wristbands to equalize electrostatic potential between
maintenance personnel and the eXPhone equipment
when removing or installing an LRU. If an approved ESD
wristband is not available, equalize the electrostatic
potential by touching the rack prior to removing an LRU.
Failure to follow ESD precautions reduces the mean time
between-failure (MTBF) for the eXPhone components.
