REPORT OVERVIEW AND SCOPE

This three-volume study prepared by Venture Development Corporation
provides the electronics/instrumentation industry with authoritative data and
strategic analysis on electronic pressure transmitters, transducers, and
component level sensors. These three report volumes are designed to serve
two chief functions:
To provide industry participants with detailed data on the electronic
pressure-sensing industry, including market sizes, market sizes by
technology and by industries/applications, vendor market shares by
product, technology, and major industrial application segments, market
trends, technology trends, and much more.
To provide strategic recommendations to industry participants that will
enable them to compete successfully in their targeted product and market
segments.
Report Highlights
The worldwide market for the pressure-sensing devices under study
exceeded $US 4 billion in 2005, and is forecast to reach approximately
$US 5.4 billion in 2010.
Shipments of multivariable units accounted for only 5.7% of the combined
pressure transmitter and transducer market in 2005, but are expected to
more than double by 2010.
HART is the dominant protocol for smart pressure transmitters, but open
standards such as Foundation Fieldbus and Profibus continue to make
inroads in the market.
There is increasing application displacement of transducers, with
transmitters having amplified outputs.
High growth is forecast for the Asia-Pacific market.

METHODOLOGY
The quality of this report is based upon the strength of VDCs methodology. Our 35 years of market research and consulting experience allows us to design robust
methodologies that yield the most valuable analyses and insights for our clients. To produce these reports, the following methodology was used:
SUPPLY SIDE METHODOLOGY
Manufacturer Information Request VDC requested information from all known or suspected manufacturers of electronic pressure transmitters, transducers and
component level sensors. This included product sales literature including catalogs, data sheets, price lists, and application notes; and company financial reports
such as annual reports, quarterly reports, 10K statements, prospectuses, and pertinent news releases.
Manufacturer Interviews VDC interviewed more than 90 global manufacturers of electronic pressure transmitters, transducers and component level sensors.
These interviews focused on product shipments and product/market segmentation, anticipated changes in product technology, communications and other product
characteristics, and on anticipated industry developments. Titles of those interviewed included President, Vice President, Marketing Manager, Product Manager,
Engineering Manager, etc.
Extensive Secondary Research Additional sources of information were incorporated in generating the information contained in the reports. These included:

Applicable data from VDCs previously published industry reports on the same and related topics.
VDCs extensive database on electronic instrumentation.
Trade magazine articles on new products, applications, trends, and technology forecasts.
Government publications.

DEMAND SIDE METHODOLOGY VDC conducted a Web-based survey and interviews with more than 250 end user, OEM, and systems integrator product
purchase decision makers for the products under study, regarding: current and anticipated usage, product selection criteria, supplier selection criteria, and
additional issues related to analyzing and forecasting the market for pressure products.
DATA ANALYSIS AND FORECASTING All of the data was compiled, sorted, analyzed, and cross-correlated to form a basis for the presentation and the
development of forecasts and strategic recommendations in the final reports. Current market statistics and segmentations were developed primarily from analysis
of supply side data. Forecasts were generated from a combination of supply side data and demand side findings, while also taking into account macroeconomic
considerations relating to current and historical instrumentation expenditures by industries, applications, and geographic regions.
