Informational Interview

Myself Hiral Parikh, final semester student in Global Business Management

Certificate Post Graduate program and Candidate level 2 in Chartered Financial
Analyst Program. I have done my internship with Investors group at their Vaughan
Office my designation was Administrative Assistant. In India, I worked in Financial
Services Industry about 4 years, in Foreign Exchange Department as Assistant
Manager in my last assignment at Karvy Stock Broking ,http://www.karvy.com/ and
before that as Executive, Forex Dealer with Asit C Mehta Interrmediates
Ltd ,http://www.asitmehta.com/ , My roles and responsibities was to send Daily
Forex Newsletter, providing spot and rates to institutional clients in Forex market,
advising SMEs, import-export houses on Currency Movements & covering their risk
exposure in terms of Hedging. Earning Fees from Institution, retail clients & SMEs
was my target in previous assignments. Financial markets globally require
certifications, the employee knows has idea what he will dealing and how to deal
with clients & promote ethical environment. I enrolled for Canadian Securities and
cleared part 1 & will be done with CSC next week. Ongoing learning demonstrates
to prospective employers the seriousness of candidate in Financial Markets. I have
applied to many organization in roles such as Associate Investment Banking, junior
analyst, Portfolio Analyst & Securities Planning etc. I use LinkedIn Jobs app to apply,
I have applied to Citi-Bank, JP Morgan Chase, Royal Bank of Canada, Investors Group
& CIBC. LinkedIn jobs posting gives comprehensive details about job profile, salary
range.
Recruitment & Interviewing Process
I interviewed Jinhui, I found from his template that there a lot of small & medium
size business in areas around Montreal they are in to import & export business.
Name of the firm was LECTRONIQUES SPARROW INC. They are basically traders
whose role is to provide any electronic equipments through their own network and
earn simple arbitrage from providing services by adding price to consumer. They
also have trade relations in United States most of suppliers providing cheap goods.
They import into Canada and sell in domestic markets. This medium size enterprise
always look for contacts to expand business. While interviewing Jin I found he has
contact in China. This organization will hire him & train him, pay for his training in
foresight they know person has got contacts in China. Interview process would be
smooth.
Insights of Organizational Structure.
Most of the firms are medium size firm around 30-50 employees flat kind of
structure. The interaction with owners is direct. Small organization provides good
exposure to Postgraduate students, space to learn adapt to the situations and
trained them for future. Additionally opportunity to learn French. This gives you
access or footing into the market & through contact of clients one can market for
better career.

Insights of Roles & Responsibilities

They want people to work for their back office first understand the nature of
business, how letter of credit is obtain and export financing. This would be training
part after that they will offer full time in nature based on the performances.

My Career Planning
I got call from Investors group for Security Planning Profile, salary range $40000$50000 at their Mississauga office. They viewed my profile on LinkedIn and they
contacted me with no 416 483 7667 ext. 219 name of lady was Emma and on
LinkedIn Director of Securities planning viewed my profile. After that I have not
heard from them. They wanted to check & confirm my qualifications, drop message
on my phone stating they will work something out for me.
System is same, first employers will test you out with small roles before offering any
position. There big names in Finance industry but I would prefer to start my career
with smaller name, learn the tricks of trade & gradually grow. Continuous learning
will help to grow as person and in industry.
Areas need to worked on
Informational interview gave me idea about body language, gestures & remain
clam. Listen what other person is asking. One always goes to interview with
expectation of job offer. It taught me What other person thinks of you, one will
never come to know. It is just to give ones best every time & careful what one is
conversing.
