ECOUTURE

Who are we?

The term sustainability gets
tossed around as if its weightless. What makes Ecouture
a sustainable fashion show?
Sustainability is more than an
initiative, a practice and an
adjective its a movement
with a goal of awakening people from an unconscious ignorance to the relationship between their daily choices and
the world around
them. In this society,
its not a matter of
trying to change the
game; its a matter of
trying to change the
players because the
game depends on
the players. Spreading an idea through
example is underrated. Every person has
power, every choice
has power and every
day has potential.
The society we live
in revolves around
consumption of
energy, resources
and
materialistic

goods. Fashion often gets the

criticism of promoting this by
encouraging a never-ending
necessary wardrobe update.
Ecouture wants to change
that reputation. Sustainability in fashion is not black and
white it is a gradient of different aspects you can incorporate into your purchases.
Whether you strive to sup-

port local labels, look for environmentally friendly production methods, get creative
with your old clothes or are a
thrift-master, every conscious
effort counts. Every purchase
acts as a vote towards sustainability as well as a living,
breathing promotion for it.
Choose well, choose consciously, choose sustainability.

BREAKING
DOWN
BARRIERS

Redminded X Foxy
When planning this show, there
were strong considerations toward straying away from the stigmatization accompanying sustainable fashion. Dressing and living
in an environmentally friendly
way does not mean wearing
only hemp and becoming vegan.
Breaking Barriers is about making
sustainable living a reality without sacrificing trends or price. Our
featured designer Redminded is
a company founded in 2012 that
makes unique homemade bowties
celebrating the renewal of masculinity. Their products can be found
online or on their Facebook. Foxy
jewellery is a company founded by
two Western University students
supporting locally made goods
and women embracing their fun
and bright side at a great price.
They also have a new recycling
program in place in which you will
receive 15% off for returning used
jewellery to reduce waste and
their effects on the environment.

FEAT. VENUS
VENUS is a four-piece
nu-disco outfit from Montreal, Canada. The group
draws from disco, new wave,
and jangle pop to create a

yet nostalgic. Washed out

drum machine rhythms,
and disco bass grooves. The
bands members met at McGill University where they

to you? This vibrant city is glistening

however small they may be, that play
an important role. As communities,
we seek different goals. It is however the moment that we unify when
all the goals are met. In fact, there
are plenty of individuals around us
that inspire us in our community.
Our designer for this scene, Heart
City Apparel, is an inspiration. Right
from the heart of Montreal, Heart
City Apparel provide opportunities
for the artist and also for the home
