SENIOR ENVIRONMENT OFFICER: JOB DESCRIPTION & SPECIFICATION


Post:

Senior Environment Officer

Hours:

Full-time, 35 hours per week, flexible working system

Salary:

31,658 per annum gross salary. (Includes 7.5% unsociable hours allowance.)

Responsible to:

DRCET Board of Directors

Contract period:

Funded till 31st March 2012 with possibility of extension or permanent employment thereafter, subject to
funding.

Start date:

From 4th April 2011 (negotiable)

Purpose:

Manage, develop, maintain and/or coordinate a varied and intensive programme of environmental,
sustainable development and community-led activity for the Trust.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:


1. Represent and promote the Trust at all levels locally and nationally.
2. Manage, develop, maintain, support and/or coordinate environmental and sustainable development initiatives already underway
in line with the Trusts strategic objectives and priorities.
3. Develop and sustain local partnerships with groups, organisations and agencies in relation to the above.

4. Manage the day-to-day operations of the Trust, its staff and volunteers, whilst ensuring proper compliance with all statutory,
funding and other obligations.
5. Ensure the work of the Trust complies with relevant legislation relating to health and safety, equal opportunity and working with
vulnerable groups and individuals.
6. Ensure the work of the Trust complements and adds value to other local services, projects and initiatives and supports the
development of an Environment Programme in the West of Glasgow.
7. Comply with monitoring and evaluation procedures and systems by preparing regular reports for the Board of Directors, sub
committees, funders, members and other stakeholders.
8. Take responsibility with support from the Board for financial control and monitoring of capital and revenue budgets involving a
range of funders.
9. Any other duty in relation to the Trust, as determined by the Board, as and where appropriate and commensurate with the
constraints of the post.
Although the successful candidate will have direct responsibility for the above, there is an emphasis on partnership and team work.

Educated to degree level or relevant experience in a field

Track record of sourcing and matching funding and implementing


projects from inception to conclusion.

Knowledge

Experience

Relevant knowledge and experience of community-focused


environmental regeneration issues and initiatives, e.g
greenspace, sustainable construction, biodiversity, waste and
recycling, renewable energy, social enterprise, community
engagement and capacity building, community planning, etc.

Extensive knowledge of environmental issues in the context of wider


social and economic regeneration.

Project management and coordination.

Familiarity with development, structure, governance and accountability


to community or voluntary organisations.

Familiarity with construction development and project management of


construction projects.

Experience of budget management, monitoring of capital and


revenue projects and fundraising involving a range of funders.
Experience of successfully promoting partnership working in
regeneration areas with community based voluntary
organisations and representatives.
Skills

Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.

Marketing skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, at all levels


as well as the ability to report to and advise joint
community/officers groups.

Team building skills.


Advanced IT skills, e.g. database management, financial spreadsheets,
HTML, website management, ECDL or equivalent, M/S Office, etc.

People management skills.


Sufficiently high level of ICT skills to be able to do the job with
a minimum of admin support.
