LayersoffinestainlesssteelmeshenvelopthishouseinTokyobylocalarchitectFumihikoSano,makingitlooklikeitiswrappedingauzyfabric(+
slideshow).

FumihikoSanoofarchitecturestudioPhenomenondesignedtheMoyaMoyahouseinTokyo'sHigashikurumesuburb.Constructedaroundalarge
doubleheightstudio,itwasbuiltforafemaleclientwhoneededspaceforherhobbyofdyeingkimonos.

Thearchitectaddedametalframeworkaroundthreesidesofthebuilding,thencovereditinmetalmeshtorestrictviewsoftheinteriorfrom
surroundingresidences.

Twolayersofthefinelyperforatedandflexiblematerialcreateamoireeffectthatgivestheillusionofmovement.Thisisenhancedwhenthemesh
billowsinthewind,causingreflectionstorippleacrossthesurface.

Changinglightconditionsthroughoutthedayandtheseasonsalsoaltertheappearanceofthemeshbox.

Openingsintheframeworkarepositionedinfrontofentrancesandsomewindows,includingafullheightglazeddooronthefirstfloorthatleadsontoa
balconysuspendedbetweenthemainwallandtheexternalstructure.

Anentrancefacesasmallpieceoflanddesignatedforparking.Thisleadsintothedoubleheightcentralroom,whichfeaturesthelargesinkandstorage
spacerequiredforthedyeingprocess.

Windowsatdifferentheightsfillthisareawithnaturallightandslidingdoorscanbepulledbacktoconnectitwiththekitchenanddiningsectionofthe
house,andasmallstudy.

Closetsarebuiltintothewallnexttotheentrance,whileatoiletandbathroomcanbeaccessedfromthestudio.Slidingdoorsinthestudyleadtothe
owner'sbedroom.

Astaircasethatascendstotheupperstoreyfeaturessimplewhitebanistersandopentreadsthatminimiseitspresenceinthespace.

Thelargelandingisintendedasalivingareaandisflankedbyatraditionaltatamispaceandabedroom.

Asmallbathroomandsparebedroomsarelocatedonthefirstfloor,andareexpectedtoaccommodateforeignstudentswhentheowner'schildrenhave
lefthome.

ThisistheresidenceinthecommutertowninthesuburbofTokyo.

Weconstructedthestudiowhereourclientcouldstudyanddyekimonos,herchiefhobby,asthecentreofthehousealso,wetriedtoprovidetheplace
tocommunicateandinteract,acceptingforeignstudentsafterherkidsleavethehome.

Theshapeofthebuildingplotisahugesquare(9100*9100),anditslopesandspreadsnorthandsouth.Becauseoftheslatingground,aprivatespace
wassettledinthenorthernpartcommandingafineview.Anopenceilingstudioisconnectedtoakitchen,sothatallowstheclienttohaveabigpartyas
shedesires.

Consideringwhensheagesinthefuture,herbedroom,astudyroom,andotherinfrastructuresareplacedonthefirstfloor.Othersinglerooms,aliving
room,andaJapanesestyleroomareonthesecondfloormoreover,youcanenjoyafineprospectwithMt.Fujifromthelivingroom.

Whenwelookatthisprojectfromadifferentperspective,themostsignificantcharacteristicofthisconstructionisthestainlesssteelfencewhich
surroundsthebuilding.Bycreatingthespacewhichmakestheborderbetweentheinsideandtheoutsideofthebuildingvague,theinsidethereofis
difficulttoseefromtheoutside.Intermsofsecurity,significanteffectscanbealsoexpected.

Amoirepatternisgeneratedsincethestainlesssteelisdoubled,anditmakespeoplefeelasiftheyareintheinsideeveniftheyareintheoutside.

Beingswayedbythewind,thestainlesssteelfenceshinesandcausesagreatvarietyofthemoirepatterns.Theangleandstrengthofthelightare
certainlychangedbytimemorning,afternoon,evening,andnight.Thechangeofthelightcreatesnotonlygrippingmoirepatterns,butalsogives
differentanddiverseimpressionstothehouse.Thisistheplacewherepeoplecancloselyenjoythetransitionsoftime,seasons,andclimatesthroughthe
house.
