WE seek to establish a jus-
tice system whereby it is
the people themselves
who exercise the power to
say who must be arrested
and brought to trial and
who exercise the power to
judge if those brought to
trial are guilty or not.
The power to say who
should be tried in court is
now exercised by the
prosecutors in the Philip-
pines. So that if the one
being accused of rape,
murder or corruption is
influential, which is most
likely, the prosecutors can
easily be intimidated or
bought. BUT if we put this
power in the hands of a
Grand Jury, usually com-
posing 23 persons selected
by raffle from a voters’ list
and whose names and
faces are kept secret, we are
foreclosing any opportu-
nity for the influential crime
doer to use his power,
money and influence. The
role of the fiscal shall be lim-
ited to the presentation of
evidence in court. The
Grand Jury is vested with
the power to compel intimi-
dated or bought witnesses
to speak up or he will be
jailed until they agree to
speak up by the power of
contempt; law enforcers
will be compelled to gather
evidence or they will be
held in jail in contempt un-
til they agree to work as
detectives.
Now, the power to say
whether an accused is guilty
or not is exercised by one
judge in the Philippines;
may be of a regional trial
court or a municipal trial
court. As we know or hear,
the powerful and rich ac-
cused can easily influence
or buy decisions. BUT if we
place this power in the
hands of a Trial Jury, a group
of 12 ordinary persons cho-
sen at random from the vot-
ers’ list and whose faces and
names are kept secret, we
are also foreclosing any op-
portunity for the decision to
be bought or influenced.
Here, ordinary persons are
tasked only to know what is
true and what is false; the
application of laws shall be
the duty of the judge who is
learned in law.
The fact that we are fore-
closing opportunities for
tampering with justice, we
are sure that the abusive
and corrupt shall learn to toe
the line and observe the rule
of law.
The vision here is we see
everybody to be “PATAS
SA BATAS.”
With jury, all laws can
now be implemented. If we
have laws against discrimi-
nation by one tribe against
another, or by Christians
against Muslims, or by the
rich against the poor, we can
say that rebellions (by NPA
and MILF) will die because
the root that is discrimina-
tion is being attacked by
the Jury Systems.
With all corruption
laws assured of implemen-
tation, the usually corrupt
officials will be compelled
to stop stealing people’s
money. The swindlers will
stop because they know
the long arm of the law will
surely reach them.
Businessmen will deal
fairly with the consumers
because the assurance of
implementation of the laws
keeps them at bay.

2 Pajeros full of money?

As the digging went deeper,
stench of dead bodies of hu-
man beings pervaded the place
but the diggers did not find
anything.
From all indications, there
was no hope in sight that they
would ever solve the puzzle of
finding where are the bodies of
the backhoe operator, his
helper and that of the only-un-
accounted-for journalist.
As this story of the miss-
ing link unfolded, Dyaryo
Magdalo gathered from police
sources who asked not to be
identified that the monies sup-
posed to have been placed in
the vaults of the Ampatuans
are also the subject of “trea-
sure” hunting.
The police source said that
they got tips that the monies,
amounting to more than two
billion pesos were moved by
the Ampatuans to a secured
site.
They claimed that these
monies were stacked full inside
two Pajeros and the vehicles
were driven to whereabouts no-
body knows.
A police officer revealed to
Dyaryo Magdalo that some
accounts said that these were
driven to a secret underground
safe place of the Ampatuans.
The police sources revealed
that many enterprising groups
knew about the story on two
Pajeros stacked full of 1,000-
peso bills and these have been
racing against each other in
looking for the said two Pajeros
owned by the Ampatuans.

to be wealthy people who do
not put money in the bank.

own homes.

said it looked likely that bod-
ies were buried in the former
banana plantation in Sitio
Katep but he suspected that
these may have already been
dug up between December 28
and January 3.
Mindanews reported that
the police chief of Datu
Abdullah Sangki town, Arvies
Altiche, said they were tipped
off about the said gravesite of
Alimudin and his helper on
December 27.
Arguillas said that Altiche
told her they coordinated with
the barangay captain in the
morning of December 27.
Together with the SOCO
team, he said that they went
by foot to the burial site at 4
p.m.
Upon reaching the sus-
pected burial site, Mindanews
reported that the SOCO team
suggested they return to the site
the next morning for it was al-
ready getting dark.
On his observation,
Arguillas quoted Altiche as
saying that the soil in the sus-
pected grave site appeared to
have receded.
She said that Altiche took
photographs thereof on De-
cember 28 and would compare
them with the January 3 pho-
tographs.

Arguillas said that Senior
Supt. Willie Dangane, police
chief of Cotabato City and
member of the Joint Task Force
Alpha, theorized that the bod-
ies may have been in a sack
when buried and when retrieved
from the grave.
A medico-legal officer,
Mindanews said, theorized
that if the bodies were buried
in November in the alleged site
the remains may have already
been skeletons during that
time.
Arguillas said that the
SOCO team was accompanied
to the site by members of the
Commission on Human Rights
led by regional director Chris-
tina Hovero, members of the
media and relatives of one of
the 57 victims of the Ampat-
uan Massacre of November
23.
Hovero noted why the site
was not guarded between De-
cember 28 and January 3,
Arguillas wrote.

ported that when Hovero re-
ported the matter to CHR
chair Leila de Lima, the latter
asked to check if another al-
leged burial site seen for her-
self by the Human Rights chief

This other site referred to

cated near the town hall of
Datu Hoffer Ampatuan,
which site turned out to be
unsecured when the team
proceed there.
At the said alleged burial
site in Datu Abdullah Sangki,
relatives of Momay and a
psychic waited only to be
saddened again of not finding
their relative, Mindanews
added.
Local journalists counted
Momay as among the 31 jour-
nalists massacred but only 30
of them have been accounted
thus far.
Although Momay’s re-
mains remain unaccounted ex-
cept for his set of dentures,
his relatives had not lost hope
of finding his remains.
It is recalled that the dead
bodies of the victims were
found in Sitio Masalay, Ba-
rangay Salman, Ampatuan
town, which is three kilome-
ters from the highway where
their convoy was said to have
been stopped.

Adel Tamano:
A Muslim who cracked
religious wall to be loved
by Christian voters
Atty. Adel Tamano: An honest man dedicated to serve
the country.
T
HE hard and brutal fact
is that it is too difficult
for Christian voters to
vote a Muslim candi
date.
In the election history of the
Philippines where Christian
voters comprise about 90 per-
cent, it is very rare for Muslim
candidates to get the votes of
his fellow Filipinos who are
Christians.
So far, there have been only
two Muslim candidates who got
elected in a national elective of-
fice. These are Santanina Rasul
of the Tausugs and Mamintal
“Mike” Tamano of the Mara-
naos. They won Senate seats in
elections held at large or elec-
tions where all Filipino voters,
particularly the Christians,
vote.
However, we must not lose
sight of the fact that the victo-
ries of Rasul and Tamano were
a result of the full support of
their respective political parties.
This author posits that were it
not for the strong support of
Corazon Aquino, Rasul and
Tamano could never have been
elected at all.
The Muslim senators who
came before them managed to
get elected because election of
senators during those old times
were done by regions. Among
these Muslim senators of that
mold were the late Salipada K.
Pendatun, the late Alauya Alon-
to and the late Achmad Do-
mocao Alonto. Alauya was the
first Muslim to get elected to
the Senate and serve three terms
therein, including the term of
office during the war against the
Japanese.
But the first Muslim sena-
tor is Hadji Butu, of Sulu. He
was appointed as senator from
1916 to 1931 by American gov-
ernor generals to represent
Mountain Province, Baguio,
Nueva Vizcaya, Agusan, Bukid-
non, Cotabato, Davao, Lanao,
Sulu, and Zamboanga.
The second Muslim senator
is Datu Sinsuat of the empire
province of Cotabato. Like
Hadji Butu, Sinsuat was also
appointed.
Looking away from the Sen-
ate, there are two Muslims who
managed to win in Christian ter-
ritories. These are Datu Pax
Mangudadatu and his son,
Sukarno “Teng” Mangudadatu.
Pax won three straight terms
as governor of Sultan Kudarat
province despite running against
Christian politicians in the prov-
ince where 75% of the voters
are Christians. After serving out
his third term, he ran for con-
gressman of the province and
won handily. Due to his sterling
performance not equaled by any
Christian governors before him,
the voters rewarded him more
by electing his son Teng, first to
become congressman and later
to become governor.
To give the readers an idea
how Pax did in his governance,
he launched a livelihood project
for the poor. The poor Mus-
lims were given chicks and kids
(young goats) to be raised on
the condition that they would
pay back the stocks with equal
number of chicks and kids that
would be given birth by these
livestock. For the poor Chris-
tians, Pax gave piglets upon the
same condition. His reason is
that it does not violate Islam
because these piglets shall be
raised and eaten by the Chris-
tians. Eventually, these pigs in-
creased in number and the votes
of Pax from the Christians also
increased in number every elec-
tion.
Now, against this backdrop,
is there a chance for Adel Tamano
to get elected to the Senate by
his own merits?
Yes, there is a chance. And
the chance is very big.
This big chance of Adel is
not because he is a son of the
late Senator Mamintal “Mike”
Tamano. It is more of his very
own merits.
Before talking why, let it be
said that Adel is an example that
all bright Muslim fellows
should copy if they want to
have a winning chance in any
national elections where the
voters are not only Muslims
but more of Christians.
In real sense, Adel success-
fully ingrained himself to be
very acceptable in the eyes of
Christian voters.
He sports qualities that have
made him successful in rising
above religious divide to get ac-
cepted by Christian voters.
So what are the qualities of
Adel that has made him very
much acceptable?
The top quality he has is
his face. He possesses the face
of a matinee idol. Any woman
can easily get in love with him.
And to have a handsome face
is a fact of life that all should
accept. Let us face it. To have a
face that can launch a thousand
ships is different: you are ahead
even the race has not yet
started.
The face is the first key to
acceptance. Without saying
who you are and how pure your
heart is, having a good face is
enough to get warm acceptance.
So that any Muslim who
wants acceptance from Chris-
tian voters right away should
have a good-looking face, not
necessarily handsome or pretty
but a neat face.
And to have a neat face, we
should shave off our mustache.
Let us face it. Mustaches make
one look untidy. Of course, no
one wants to look at untidy per-
sons.
I do not mean to offend my
Muslim brothers but I do be-
lieve that having a mustache is
not a requirement to be called a
good Muslim or a religious one.
This is because one Muslim may
have the longest mustache but
he actually does not do what an
obedient Muslim must do un-
der the tenets and five pillars of
Islam.
With this, all other Muslims
who want to get a good chance
must do some corrective mea-
sures first on their faces. Go to
derma clinics if you must. Al-
ways sport a clean-shaven face.
By being clean in your face
brings out an impression that
you are also a man of clean-liv-
ing and of pure heart.
What makes the looks more
important nowadays for the Is-
lamic believers is the negative
effect brought about to the
Muslims by the 9-11 bombing
of the World Trade Center by
terrorists who masquerade
themselves as children of Allah
and the kidnapping and
beheading traditions of terror-
ists who mask themselves as
the Swords of God or “Abu
Sayyaf.”
The second quality that
Adel possesses is the way he
dresses himself up.
Without offense to the tra-
ditional clothing or costume of
each of the tribes, we have to
accept the fact that you cannot
win everybody’s acceptance by
dressing up like an Igorot or a

malong, the traditional scarf or
Muslim hats.
To my mind, there is always
a special occasion for each cos-
tume. And I argue that it does
not necessarily mean that you
do not love your religion or
tribe if you dare to dress snap-
pily with the universally-ac-
cepted coat and tie, barong
tagalog, or signature clothes. It
does not make one an inch-less
Muslim if he dresses impres-
sively. It does not also mean
one is ashamed of his religion
or tribe if he presents himself
as a handsome guy or girl in
impressive getup.
It must be remembered that
there are always people who
are pretenders, including those
who wear Muslim clothes yet
not doing what a Muslim
should do.
And frankly speaking, I
have not seen Adel wearing a
Maranao hat or a malong in
public. He may be doing so in
his house but he does not do so
in public appearances.
The third quality Adel has
is his eloquence in speaking.
Due to the power of speech
that he carries, his inner
thoughts have been revealed.
And when these inner things are
unraveled, you can sense his
deep knowledge on almost ev-
erything.
By his tongue, his inner heart
is also revealed. And when it
reveals, it silently speaks of his
passion for academic excellence
as the key to individual’s suc-
cess. He speaks on various
topics of life, national issues and
Muslim issues with clarity and
convictions.
In other words, Adel is a
gifted speaker.
As such, any Muslim Fili-
pino who would wish to get a
good chance in national poli-
tics composed mostly by
Christians, he should develop
his speaking skills in a manner
that when he speaks, he speaks
like a Tagalog or like an Ameri-
can if he delivers a discourse in
English.
To my mind, loving your
language is one thing and speak-
ing a language is another thing.
And when you speak a lan-
guage not your native tongue, it
does not mean to say that you
do not love your own. Rather,
if you speak one language with
perfection it only bespeaks of
your love for perfection and you
must be very diligent and very
intelligent.
If you speak the language of
the voters, you will experience
how the power of language
brings home your points.
Most importantly, the lis-
teners can feel that the speaker
has concern for them if he
speaks their language well.
After all, there is nothing bad
in getting an impression of be-
ing of “colonial mentality.”
Those who say it is bad to
speak other’s tongue do not
know what he is talking about.
Why? After all it is not bad to
copy as long as what you copy

tackling issues is shown readily
by his writings.
From his writings and speak-
ing style, you can also notice
that he wants all his works to
be products of perfection or
trying to be perfect.
The fifth quality that Adel
has that many Christian Filipi-
nos know is his being an aca-
demic performer.
Not a few Christian Filipi-
nos know that Adel is the first
Filipino to be chosen as the
commencement speaker of
Harvard University when he
graduated with the degree of
master of laws.
To be chosen as a commence-
ment speaker in the world’s best
university in the world is an in-
controvertible piece of evidence
in itself to say what kind of man
is he. It means you are the
brightest among the graduating
class.
And because Harvard is
considered as the best in the
world, you are like a world
champion if you are chosen as
the one who is at the top of the
class.
And this feat of Adel is a
record in Philippine history. At
the same time, his entry to
Harvard is the first by any
Muslim Filipino.
Due to his academic perfor-
mance and his eloquence in
public speaking, Adel was cho-
sen to be invested as the sev-
enth president of Pamantasan
ng Lungsod ng Maynila, one of
the best universities in the Phil-
ippines.
As such, it is argued by this
author that any Muslim can get
these rare chances if they only
aspire and succeed in having
academic excellence. One good
candidate to follow the path of
Adel is Atty. Mylene Amerol,
the MSU graduate who
emerged No. 2 in the Bar Ex-
ams of 2008.
While serving as president
of this school where the author
graduated from with a degree of
bachelor of laws, Adel per-

formed with distinction due to
the fact that he was well pre-
pared for the job.
He conceptualized summer
classes for all Manila public high
school graduates to improve
their chances of passing the ad-
mission tests of PLM. He jus-
tified this project as necessary
in the eyes of poverty besetting
most students from these
schools, arguing further that the
mind cannot learn when the
stomach is empty.
It was also Adel who suc-
ceeding in fixing transparency
problems in the financial affairs
of PLM.
His management style en-
deared him to the students and
the faculty. His performance at
the PLM won for him the hearts
and minds of all students, teach-
ers and alumni of PLM, includ-
ing this author. These PLMers
are actually his top campaign-
ers.
The sixth quality that Adel
has is he has never complained
whenever he was discriminated
against just by reason of his be-
ing a Muslim. Both his father
and mother are pure Muslims
of Lanao and Sulu.
With his own style of not
complaining about those dis-
crimination but projecting him-
self as one Christians can rely
on, he won the hearts of those
who committed acts of discrimi-
natory acts against him.
What he did in countering
racial stereotypes has been his
ability to accept the truth that
discrimination is a fact of life.
And with this in mind, he has
strove hard to excel in academ-
ics and other fields in order for
him to be loved in school and
by his friends.
With this, it is the theory of
this author that for any Muslim
who wants to be loved by non-
Muslims, he should be ready to
accept the truth that discrimi-
nation is a fact of life and he
should welcome these criticisms
as inspirations to strive harder
to excel in academics or other
fields.
In fact, Adel recognized the
fact that Christians in the Phil-
ippines are very much more in
number than the Muslim Fili-
pinos.
As such, he insisted he is
running for senator not as the
candidate alone of the Muslims
but more of the Christians.
He recognized that without
the Christian votes, he will ne-
ver ever win. And if wins, he
will dedicate most of his time to
look into the interest of the
Christians while at the same time

that shone in the ’80s and the
sudden explosion of the video
clip in the year 2009 that hit
the internet and spread to
DVD pirates in Quiapo, Ma-
nila made this woman.
This was the battle of
Katrina Halili that made most
of the women saying wow to
her bravery, strength and com-
mitment to get justice against
the infamous controversy made
by Hayden Kho.
Year 2009 was the year of
controversy in the showbiz
world.
But the most scandalous
was the sex video scandal that
even the Senate conducted an
investigation just to find out
who were the victims and who
was the mastermind of the said
controversy and what law to
make to prevent a repeat.
As a result, Hayden Kho
got a two-year suspension
from membership of the Phil-
ippine Medical Associa-
tion and the revocation
of his license by the
Professional
Regulation
Commission
(PRC) as
Cos-
metic
Sur-
geon.
On
the other

Katrina is
moving on as
she has gone
back to her former
cosmetic surgeons Hayden Kho
and Dra. Vicky Bello. They
eventually broke up.
Hayden told an interview
of January 3, 2009 that he failed
his relationship with Vicky
Bello by his own fault.
He did not mention any
names during the interview but
he said he was burned by the
fire he played.
Vicky confirmed the splitup
in her interview on January 24,
2009.
She reasoned out, however,
that it was Katrina who was
the third party named in the
month of December 2008.
Showbiz critics believed in
the words of Vicky Bello as she
confirmed the involvement of
Katrina on their break up.
Notwithstanding, Dr.
Bello said she knew all
about the scandalous
videos, saying she dis-
covered them on
Hayden Kho’s laptop
computer used in se-
cretly filming his sex
with several women,
including Katrina.
Three months later,
news broke out that
Hayden and Dr. Bello
Katrina Halili. It boomed and
spread on the Internet.
It was followed by a video
packed with private moments
of Hayden and Katrina. This
spread rapidly on the Internet
and saw brisk sales in the pi-
rated CD stores.
On May 16, 2009, Katrina
Halili declared in an interview
with Startalk that the woman
with Hayden in the video was
her.
As she bravely disclosed
this, she said crying: “Siguro
nga for fun, oo, sige tanga ako,
tapos sabihin ng mga tao..
tanga nga. Di ba sorry tao lang
po ako nagkamali ako sa
video, tanga ako, tanga na
nga di ba.”
Few days after the sex
scandal video filmed by
Hayden had already
spread, Katrina filed a
complaint against
Hayden.
In the said com-
plaint, many names
were included in the
controversy and
many names were
dropped as the one
who uploaded the
sex videos to the
Internet.
It was also that
month when Senator
Ramon “Bong” Revilla
delivered his privilege
speech before the Senate.
In his speech entitled A
Doctor’s Perversity, Senator
Bong scored Hayden for re-
cording his sexual activities
with his girlfriend without their
consent and posting the videos
on the Internet.
The Senate began to con-
duct an investigation.
In the Senate, Hayden and
his counsel appeared. Katrina
also showed up with her coun-
sel and supporters.
But before the investigation
began, policeman-turned-jour-
nalist Abner Afuang appeared
behind Hayden and poured
water on the head of Hayden.
It was also that time when
famous words were uttered by
Katrina Halili:
“Wala akong malay na ang

lence Against Women and Chil-
dren Act.
In September 2009, a one-
year suspension against
Hayden from his membership
in Philippine Medical Associa-
tion (PMA) was issued as a
conclusion of a separate com-
plaint filed by Katrina against
him.
In November of 2009, the
Professional Regulation Com-
mission (PRC) issued a deci-
sion declaring the revocation of
license as of Hayden as a sur-
geon.
Before the 2009 can bid
goodbye, an incident allegedly
occurred in Silang, Cavite in-
volving Hayden Kho.
It was confirmed by Sena-
tor Bong that a police chief of
Cavite reported to him that an
incident occurred in Lalaan 2nd,
Silang, Cavite where a man with
wounds on his face and left
shoulder was found in a pine-
apple field.
Senator Bong believed the
man was Hayden.
The year 2009 was consid-
ered as the rise and fall of
Hayden’s career.
For Katrina, it was the year
of her fight and win.
Now, Katrina is busy with
her career.
She is now seen as one of
the villains in the top-rated

She played there the role as

without any legal or financial
repercussions.
