Introduction

Product Overview
Xerox 4110 is an 110ppm Monochrome printing system with an
integrated scanner and Fuji designed “Green Controller” targeted for
in-plant commercial printing, and franchise print segments. Xerox
4110 will provide a cost effective alternative to offset printing where
high quality and quick turnaround is required for short run jobs, and
with the increased speed of the integrated scanner (IIT), Xerox 4110
will provide the industry with higher quality scanning with low
operating cost and higher speeds then it’s 2101 predecessor

q At this time your instructor will take you into the lab and give you an
Operational Overview of the Machine.

Technologies

“Write Black” Image Exposure

The Exposure or marking process in this product is called a write

black, or Discharge Area Development (DAD) process; as opposed to
the more standard write white process. In a write white process, the
areas that represent the image on the charged drum are not exposed
and attract toner. The background areas (white areas) are exposed
and do not attract toner. In the write black process the ROS (laser
beam) exposes the image areas to a very low electrostatic potential
while the background areas (white areas) retain their high negative
charge. As the latent image rotates past the Developer Roll, the
negatively charged toner particles are repelled by the background
areas and attracted to the very low negatively charged exposed
image areas.

Emulsion Aggregation (EA) Toner

EA toner has smaller size particles and the particles are one size
(not random sizes) that provides many benefits.
• Sharper Images
• Use less toner therefore cost less
• Requires less energy to make
• Generates less waste
• Contributes to printer reliability

XEROX 4110 TRAINING 1/4/2005 7

Introduction

Trickle Development System

This machine uses a trickle development system in which the Carrier

beads are pre mixed with the dry ink inside the Toner (Dry Ink)
Cartridge. As the dry ink is added to the developer housing,
additional carrier is also added. As the ink is used up, the amount of
carrier increases and has to be removed and discarded. A waste
auger system on the right side of the Developer Assembly removes
the excess carrier and moves it to the Waste Toner bottle. Trickle
development increases the developer life and stabilizes image quality
during long runs.

No Oil Fuser

The fuser requires no oil. The wax in the toner acts as a release
agent so the toner doesn’t adhere to the Fuser rolls, and prevents
stripper finger marks on the paper.
Eliminating oil contamination throughout the system prevents
hardware and Image Quality problems to occur.

Module Wrap Up
You have now completed the Introduction module record your Stop
and Total Time on the Xerox 4110 Student Sign-Off Sheet

Xerox 4110 Service Diagnostic Software Installation

It is very important that you read the Install Instructions and

Release Notes thoroughly before installing the software on your
PWS.
Follow the installation instructions that accompany the Xerox 4110
Software CD and install the PWS Software on your PWS.
When you have completed the Install, remove CD and place it back
in the Student kit.

Install of EDOC-Preliminary Edoc Information

For ECAT you will be using the Asian Pacific translated Service
Manual. The Service manual is broken into section and provided in
a PDF format. As you browse and locate information remember to
refer to the page # on the page, do not refer to the PDF file page #
because it includes all front matter and indexes.
Locate the Xerox 4110 EDOC CD that contains the PDF files of the
following sections.
For each section there is a description and any updated information
you will need.
Section 1- Service Procedures – Includes the call flow, HFSIs and
consumables. The consumables listed in the PDF file are unique
for Japan.
1.The Consumable Parts # to use are:
• 013R00610 Drum Cartridge (510K prints)
• 008R13001 Waste Toner Bottle (210K prints)
• 008R13000 Fuser Web (270K prints)
• 006R01237 Toner Cartridge (81K prints at 6% area coverage
• 005R00704 Black Developer (6,000,000 prints
Section 2- Raps – are deductive raps
• Open the Raps pdf file.
• Note: For ECAT you must use the BSDs and support
documentation if the Rap is not available.
• Locate the Fault Code List in section 2.
Section 3 –
• Image Quality starts with the IQ Entry Rap. This section
includes Image Defect Samples specifically found on Xerox 4110
as well as generic samples to aid in troubleshooting.
Section 4 – Repairs and Adjustments
Note: If you cannot find a repair procedure refer to the parts list.
• Review the following:
• How to use the Disassemble/Assemble/Adjust section
• Glossary and Symbols.

XEROX 4110 TRAINING 1/4/2005 5

Service Support Tools

Note: Safety Critical Components (SCC) –In the Index you will see
(SCC) listed next to specific Repairs indicating you must follow
safety procedures for the critical components.
Section 5- Parts List
Section 6 – General Procedures
Section 7 – Wirenets / BSDs / PJ Locators
Notes regarding the PJ location Document _PDF file
• The PJ locator file on the ECAT CD has fonts that are not
recognized. Because of this we will provide you with a new
Electronic file for you to download. Your instructor will provide.
There are hardcopies also available.
Notes regarding the BSDs
• Review the BSDs and notice the illustrations, fault code list and
PL #. The BSDs are in review now to be completed by launch.
• Because the BSDs were written by Fuji, the BSDs do include a
few BSDs for the 900 version of Xerox 4110 launched in Japan.
The 900 BSDs referenced do not apply to this machine and
should not be used.
• For example, look at BSD 1.10 and 1.11. One refers
to a 200VAC Group only and the other a 100VAC
Group only. You should use BSD 1.10 that refers to
the 200 VAC. The 100 AC is used on the Fuji
version.
• BSD 1.12 and 1.11 refer to heaters, this also does
not apply to the Xerox 4110. The heater kits are
used only by Japan.
• The BSDs will be updated for launch.
Section 9 Install
• Locate and review the install Procedure.
