VISCOSITY:
Viscosityisawaytodescribehowmuchresistanceafluidmeltedpolymer

meltisthickandresistancetoflowishigh.Lowviscositymeansresistance
flowisless.
Justassolidsurfacesincontactexertfrictionalforceoneachother,the
relativemotionoflayersofliquidisalsorestrictedbyfriction.Thisinternal
resistancetoflowexistingbetweentwoliquidlayerswhentheyaremoved
relativetoeachotheriscalledviscosity.
Considertheflowofliquidthroughapipeandimaginethatliquidmovesin
layers.Theliquidmoveswhenthereexiststhepressuredifferencebetween
thepipeends.Theliquidinthecenterofpipewouldbemovingwithhigher
velocitythantheliquidlayerattheinternalwallofthepipe.Thisisbecause
thefrictionalforcesactbetweenthelayersofliquid.Thereforethereexistsa
velocitygradientbetweenpipewallandcenterofpipe.Suchmotionofliquid
isknownaslaminarflow.Thevelocityofparticlesatagivendistancefromthe
centerofmotionisconstant.Ifthelayersintermixwegetturbulentflow.
Astreamlineisacurvewhosetangentalwaysliesalongthedirectionof
motionoffluidatthatpoint.Thestreamlinesnevercrossandinlaminarflow
theydonotchangewithtime.
Itisobservedthatfrictionalforceisdirectlyproportionaltotheproductof
