2.1 Product Documents


The documents of the product consist of the two categories.
NOTE

The OptiX OSN 8800 Intelligent Optical Transport Platform is the optical transmission system product of
Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. In this document, this product is referred to OptiX OSN 8800 for short.

The product documents consist of the following two categories.


l

Documents of the OptiX OSN 8800: a package of documents released together with the
OptiX OSN 8800. These documents describe the characteristics, functions, working
principles and parameters of the equipment. In addition, they provide guidelines for
network planning, hardware installation and network commissioning, network
configuration and management, and network running and maintenance.

Documents of the iManager U2000: a package of documents and online help of the
iManager U2000 system. These documents provide guidelines for the installation and
operation of the iManager U2000 as well as guidelines for the equipment maintenance on
the U2000.

2.2 Documents of the Equipment


This section describes the documents of the OptiX OSN 8800 equipment.
2.2.1 Product Description
This section describes the functions, features, specifications and network application of the
equipment.
2.2.2 Hardware Description
This section describes the hardware architecture and composition of the equipment, including
boards, interfaces, as well as their functions and parameters.
2.2.3 Feature Description
This section describes the features and functions of the product, including working principle,

Documentation Development Process

The development of Huawei documentation adopts the engineering method, which consists of
several phases, including planning, development, and commercialization. Deliverables in soft
and hard copies are provided to the users.
The documentation development synchronizes with the hardware and software development,
which includes phases such as requirement analysis, design, development and test.
Huawei Information Development Department is responsible for the development of product
documents. The development of product documents consists of the following phases:
1.

Analyze requirements collected from the customers.

2.

Make a documentation development plan.

3.

Design the deliverables of the documentation development.

4.

Develop the original deliverables of product documents.

5.

Test and verify the deliverables of the documentation development.

6.

Release the documents.

The quality of the documentation is guaranteed through the implementation of tasks at different
phases and through the decisive review at the last phase.

The upgrade of product versions is an effective way to enhance the functions and performance
of the product. If the product version is upgraded, the corresponding documents need to be

Upload the latest documents onto Huawei Technical Support website (http://
support.huawei.com) and inform the customers of the latest documents.

CD-ROM Release
Record the upgraded part or the entire set of the latest documents onto the CR-ROM and release
them to the customers.

Hard Release
Release the upgraded part or the entire set of the latest documents to customers in hard copies.
Select one or more of the above means to release the documents after a version upgrade. The
determining factors can be the scope of documents affected by version upgrade, or the number
of users of the new product version.

4.2 Obtaining the Documents


You can obtain the documents by visiting either the technical support website or the local office
of Huawei.
Currently, the documents can be obtained in two ways.

Query and download the soft copies from Huawei Technical Support website (http://
support.huawei.com). You can directly apply for a user name and a password.
Enter your user name and password and log in to the website. Select Documentation >
