The OptiX OSN 8800 Intelligent Optical Transport Platform is the optical transmission system product of
Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. In this document, this product is referred to OptiX OSN 8800 for short.
Documents of the OptiX OSN 8800: a package of documents released together with the
OptiX OSN 8800. These documents describe the characteristics, functions, working
principles and parameters of the equipment. In addition, they provide guidelines for
network planning, hardware installation and network commissioning, network
configuration and management, and network running and maintenance.
Documents of the iManager U2000: a package of documents and online help of the
iManager U2000 system. These documents provide guidelines for the installation and
operation of the iManager U2000 as well as guidelines for the equipment maintenance on
the U2000.

uses and operates the product, such as product installation, product configuration, and
product maintenance. Commonly, the product documents are delivered with the product.
Online help: The online help is integrated in the operation maintenance interface. The online
help includes the description of operation maintenance interface and description of
operation tasks. Commonly, the online help is released with the software.
The differences between the product documents and online help are as follows:

According to the usage features of the product and user operation habits, the online help
mainly describes the parameters and operation maintenance tasks of the product graphical
user interface (GUI). Commonly, it can be directly invoked from the software. The product
manuals mainly describe the operation maintenance scenarios based on the product usage.
The main operation maintenance tasks are specified in the online help and product manuals.
The online help contains the task-related reference contents such as the "interface
reference", "parameter reference", "alarm reference" and "technical specifications".
Description Documents
The U2000 description documents mainly include the product description and documentation
guide.

The development of Huawei documentation adopts the engineering method, which consists of
several phases, including planning, development, and commercialization. Deliverables in soft
and hard copies are provided to the users.
The documentation development synchronizes with the hardware and software development,
which includes phases such as requirement analysis, design, development and test.
Huawei Information Development Department is responsible for the development of product
documents. The development of product documents consists of the following phases:

The Online Help is integrated with the software and is released together with the software.
CD-ROM
All product documents are delivered in CD-ROM format together with the equipment. The soft
copy is stored in the HTML+PDF format.
The documents in CD-ROM format can be installed on the computer or can be read online
through direct running of the CD-ROM.
Web Release
The latest documentation of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd is released on the following website.
You can retrieve, browse and download the documents from this website.

Huawei does not deliver documentation in printed format. Huawei delivers only documentation in CDROM format by default.

Record the upgraded part or the entire set of the latest documents onto the CR-ROM and release

Release the upgraded part or the entire set of the latest documents to customers in hard copies.
Select one or more of the above means to release the documents after a version upgrade. The
determining factors can be the scope of documents affected by version upgrade, or the number
of users of the new product version.
Query and download the soft copies from Huawei Technical Support website (http://
support.huawei.com). You can directly apply for a user name and a password.
Enter your user name and password and log in to the website. Select Documentation >
Optical Network Product Line > WDM > OptiX OSN 8800. Then you can retrieve,
browse and download the related documents.
Obtain the hard copies or CD-ROM format of the documents from Huawei local offices.
