Introduction:
This document gives an overall description of the FW-10 tray washer. It gives a
general operating overview along with technical data on the unit.
General Description:
The FW-10 is an offline plastic tray washer/dryer that washes and dries plastic egg
flats in one operation. It is a stand-alone unit. The wash time is preset by the operator
along with the automatic spin drying cycle to maximize the cleaning and drying
operation. The FW-10 tray washer/dryer cleans approximately 2000 trays per hour. The
customer just needs to run a water line to it along with power. This unit should also be
placed close to a floor drain to handle the removal of the dirty water.

Operation:
Controls: All washer dryer functions are controlled from the switches located on the
main electrical box mounted on the side of the washer dryer unit.
Washing: Pushing the start button activates the solenoid fill valve in the holding tank.
When the rising water reaches the first float valve, it activates the heating unit in the
tank. When the water level reaches the second float valve, the fill valve is shut off. This
also starts to rotate the trays drum at slow speed (30 R.P.M.) and the water in the
holding tank is drained into the washing chamber. At this point the cycle timer starts.
Rinsing: When the wash cycle is completed the wash water is automatically pumped
back into the holding tank, then fresh hot water is sprayed over the slowly rotating trays
approximately three (3) minutes. Water from the rinse cycle is pumped into the holding
tank.
Drying: After the rinse cycle, the timer switches the trays drum to high-speed (300
R.P.M.) to spin-dry the trays. The pump will continue to pump any excess water into the
holding tank for a few minutes then shut off. When the spin drying cycle is complete the
trays drum will automatically shut off and the clean trays can be removed.
Safety Features:
The Diamond plastic tray washer dryer has two safety features. Both of these are on the
washing compartment lid. The first is a switch that will not allow the system to operate
while the lid is open. The second locks the washing compartment lid closed when the
trays drum begins to rotate. This will prevent any injuries or spraying water while the
drum is rotating.
Detergents:
Loading of powder detergent (mild) should be done just as the washing cycle starts. The
detergent should be dumped into the pump discharge stream, just above the heating
element, in the holding tank. This is where the water is most turbulent and will prevent
caking of the powder. Refer to the holding tank capacity and detergent instructions for
the proper amount of detergent to be used. Do not use high concentration of chlorine in
the FW-10 this will eat at the Stainless Steel.

Wash Drum:
The wash drum has 4 compartments where trays are loaded for washing. A somewhat
equal number of trays should be loaded into each compartment so that the wash load
stays balanced. The image on the left shows one compartment full of trays.

Water Usage:
There is one spray nozzle in the washing drum that is used to rinse off the trays after
they are washed. It does indeed use fresh water. The amount of water that it uses
depends on the incoming water pressure in PSI (Pounds per square Inch). There is a
table below that shows the flow rate for the different water pressures.
Capacity (gallons per minute)
Incoming
water
pressure
(GPM)
Water
allowed

For example, if the incoming water pressure is 3 gallons per minute, the amount of water
used by the nozzle will be 2.2 gallons per minute for the fresh rinse. The default setting
from the factory is for a 3 minute rinse cycle, so depending on the water pressure that
they will have tied to the unit, you can see the amount of water that would be used. If
the incoming water pressure is set to 3 gallons per minute, and we keep the rinse cycle
at the standard 3 minutes, using the chart, we can see that we will use 6.6 gallons of
water for the fresh rinse 2.2 (Water allowed by nozzle) x 3 (Rinse time in minutes) = 6.6
gallons of water per minute.

This photo shows a close up of the holding tank for the FW-10. The tube that you see
here is for extra water to overflow out of. This tube also unscrews so that you can
completely drain the tank. When the water gets too full, the extra water will run through
the pipe and out to a drain.
This is a view from the bottom frame of the FW-10. This shows the bottom of the drain
tube. This particular unit is not complete, so the piping to drain the tank is not present. I
have added this in red to represent what this would look like if it were complete.
Typically a customer installs an FW-10 very close to a floor drain so that it is easy to
empty out the tank and the water goes right down the drain.
