1. 3 Declension Pronouns: In the previous two installations of “Notes On Koine Greek” I have
looked at the 1st and 2nd Declension Personal Pronouns. Now, it’s time to look at both the 3rd Declension
Personal Pronouns and Demonstrative Pronouns.
2. 3rd Declension Personal & Demonstrative Pronouns: The main reason for looking at these
paradigms together is because their endings are the same. Before offering the tables for comparison,
however, a few words about Demonstrative Pronouns are in order. There are basically 3 uses of the
Demonstrative: 1) To modify nouns with the definite article (they will agree in case, number and gender) as
they stand in the predicate position; 2) They may have the force of a substantive; 3) To reference persons
previously mentioned. Now, study the tables below noting the paradigm similarities and differences:
