What Are Supercomputers Used For?
If you go by the movies, the term
'Supercomputer' conjures up visions of a very
super-duper smart, evil genius machine, that
is up to no good. On the contrary,
supercomputers are in fact do-gooders, which
utilize their immense computing powers to
benefit mankind. Learn where and for what
these super machines are used.
Biology
Supercomputers can be used to model or
render the working of the nervous system or
brain of an organism. In 2006, the cole
Polytechnique Fdrale de Lausanne of
Switzerland used a supercomputer to render a
part of a rat's brain, to understand how
neurons transmit and generate messages in
this type of organism. However, the computer
was only capable of demonstrating the
working of a small area of the brain.
Nevertheless it was a breakthrough.
In 2009, a joint venture by IBM and Stanford
University modeled the cortex of a cat using
the Blue Gene/IP supercomputer. They
simulated 1% of a human brain's functioning
in the same year. Within the next 10 years, a
complete rendering and simulation of how the
human brain works, will be shown by a
supercomputer. Why model a brain? To
understand how such a body part works, how
messages are transmitted, how are memories
stored etc. Psychologists will be able to study
why some mental conditions occur and which
part of the brain is affected. The human brain

Supercomputers also aid research and studies
in the field of fluid dynamics or deep inside
the Earth's core exploration. They can also
create complex animated models of molecular
structures of various chemical and biological
compounds and crystals.
The above-detailed uses of supercomputers
demonstrate the usefulness of such machines
in crucial tasks as well as aiding in discovery
and carrying out research in various fields of
knowledge. With each leap and bound taken
by man in the arena of technology, today's
supercomputer can easily end up as
tomorrow's desktop!

Importance of Computers in Medicine
What is the importance of computers in
medicine? How can computer technology be
harnessed in the medical field? Read on to
find the answers.
Tests
The different types of monitoring equipment
in hospitals are often based on computer
programming. Medical imaging deals with
techniques to create images of the human
body for medical purposes. Many of the
modern methods of scanning and imaging are
largely based on computer technology. We
have been able to implement many of the
advanced medical imaging techniques, thanks
to developments in computer science.
Magnetic resonance imaging employs
computer software. Computed tomography
makes use of digital geometry processing
techniques to obtain 3-D images.
Sophisticated computers and infrared
cameras are used for obtaining highresolution images. Computers are widely used
for the generation of 3-D images. Many of the
modern-day medical equipment have small,
programmed computers. Many of the medical
appliances of today work on pre-programmed
instructions. The circuitry and logic in most of
the medical equipment is basically a
computer. The functioning of hospital-bed
beeping systems, emergency alarm systems,
X-ray machines and several such medical
E-agriculture
An emerging field of agricultural practices, eagriculture focuses on coming up with
innovative ways and best practices to use the
existing information and communication
technologies (ICTs) for sustainable agricultural
development and food safety standards,
particularly in rural areas. E-agriculture
encompasses other related technological
fields such as agricultural informatics,
agricultural development and business. It
aims to deploy all available technologies
(computers, mobile computing, satellite
systems, smart cards) for the empowerment
of farmers and strengthening of partnerships
across the food value chain.
The uses of computers in agriculture do have
some real constraints such as, the lack of
hardware and software infrastructure, training
and skills, and research priorities. However,
once these are overcome, the use of
computers transcends automation and
software application. In fact, it could be
instrumental in bridging the rural digital
divide and bringing prosperity to agriculturists
not only in the United States, but also in other
convenient access to information. Through EMail, you can communicate with a person
sitting thousands of miles away in a few
seconds. Chat software enables one to chat
with another on a real-time basis. Video
conferencing tools are becoming readily
available to the common man.
Digital video or audio composition - Audio or
video composition and editing have been
made much easier by computers. It no longer
costs thousands of dollars of equipment to
compose music or make a film. Graphics
engineers can use computers to generate
short or full-length films or even to create 3D
models. Anybody owning a computer can now
enter the field of media production. Special
effects in science-fiction and action movies
are created using computers.
Desktop publishing - With desktop publishing,
you can create page layouts for entire books
on your personal computer.
Medicine - You can diagnose diseases. You can
learn the cures. Software is used in magnetic
resonance imaging to examine the internal
organs of the human body. Software is used
for performing surgery. Computers are used to
store patient data.

How Computers Changed the World
Computers have been one of the greatest
inventions ever! They have changed the world
by changing the way we think today and will
continue to do so.

Advantages of Computers
Computers have affected every aspect of our
day-to-day life, in terms of education, office
work, accounting, business, communication,
shopping, and data storage amongst others.
Let's look into the advantages of computers.

Uses of Computers in Nursing Education
The healthcare industry has been expanding,
both in terms of jobs, and in terms of
technology. Computers are now a part of each
and every sector, including healthcare
industry. Even in a profession as nursing, the
uses of computers cannot be overlooked. This
article tells you why.
Computers in Business
In today's era we cannot imagine an office or
business due to our reliance on the numerous
computer uses. The following are a few uses
of computers in business...
General Convenience: Earlier, before
computers were introduced in businesses,
there were multiple devices in offices and
businesses such as fax machines, typewriters,
telefax equipment, stenography equipment
and filing cabinets that were used extensively.
Computers successfully replaced these office
tools. The entire office became
'dematerialized' that is files and data existed
electronically on the computer instead of
having a physical existence.
Accounting and Finance: An important use of
computers is the machine's ability to act as a
clever accountant. There are countless
accounting software that can cleverly record
entries and plan finances. These financial
software basically increase the accuracy of
the financial accounting process. There are
also several Internet banking facilities that
have come into use of recent. Such facilities
enable people to conduct transactions from

Importance of Computer Education
Computers find a wide variety of applications
in different spheres of life. With an increase in
their widespread use and their ever-soincreasing popularity, computer education has

overload.
Passive smoking is also not recommended,
namely taking breaks with heavy smokers,
since in strongly affects the power of
concentration and gives a sensation of
dizziness.
One should also avoid drinking strong coffee,
for it decreases one's nervous system energy
level, and which apparently cannot be
replaced for a quite long period of time.

Uses of Computers in Hospitals
Of late, computers are being included in
hospitals and medical clinics throughout the
world. Some uses of computers in hospitals do
not involve treating patients but help medical
staff and doctors to handle information and
data in a better manner.

Living Computers
out!
Back to reality, this is very much a
dramatization of what is about to happen. But
the outcome of such experiment is two-fold.
Mankind will surely benefit after getting the
puzzle of life and brain sorted out, but there
would be other brains who might have
another perspective to the whole story. It's for
all of us to decide, whether to go ahead and
solve the greatest mysteries of all - the Brain.

Almost all computer users must know how
destructive a virus can be. But then, it would
be interesting to know that a virus cannot
corrupt your PC on its own. It corrupts your
system only when you activate it by either
downloading infected files from the Internet or
by sharing these infected files.
Computer circuitry can be destroyed by static
electricity, it is so mild for humans that they
don't even feel it.
The Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra chip has
maximum numbers of transistors on it,
approx. 222 million of them.
Konrad Zuse, has the credit of creating world's
first computer known as the Z1 in 1936. Three
years later in the year 1939, was when the
first fully functioning electro-mechanical
computer, known as Z2 was developed.
'Stewardesses' is the longest word which can
