The Earth’s climate constantly varies due to natural cosmological and geological
processes. Climate change however refers to an additional and relatively rapid change
induced by human actions.
Due to various human actions, the amount of carbon dioxide released by human activities
is far above the amounts witnessed in the past couple of decades triggering the rise in
temperatures (low rainfall, extreme heat) that we have all witnessed in recent times.
The need of the hour is for all of us to take individual action and make a conscious effort
to save our planet from disruption.
Being one of the country’s largest utility companies, we at Reliance Energy feel that it is
our moral and social responsibility to save our planet for the future and betterment of our
children. It is for this reason that we have conceptualized Young Energy Savers as we
want to sensitize our future generations towards the cause of energy conservation and
inculcate the habit of saving energy in them from a tender age.
Program:
Children are playful, fun and full of bright ideas (even if it means trying to use mama's
red lipstick on a doll). So why should we be serious, inflexible and dull when we talk to
them?
In everything YES undertakes, we try to be playful, interesting and interactive as we are
interacting with children who have an extremely imaginative and restless mind, therefore
anything mundane and boring will fail to gather their attention and interest.
As energy conservation is an issue which should be taken up by one and all, we are
talking to a diverse range of schools in our distribution area (Bandra to Bhayandar in the
western suburbs and Chembur, Vikhroli, Mankurdh in the central suburbs)
As kids of different age groups have a different level of understanding and different
absorption levels, we have distributed children in three distinct clusters to optimize our
communication
The three clusters of children are:
• Class 2nd -4th
• Class 5th -7th
• Class 8th -9th
• We in conjunction with our ground activation agency contact schools to get the
school’s permission to conduct activities for the three clusters of students
• On the appointed day we go to the school and conduct various interactive
interesting and playful activities with children in the school premises
• Children across the three clusters are given pledge cards which they are asked to
distribute to their parents, relatives and neighbourhood urging everybody in their
immediate environment to take a pledge and commitment to save the planet
• We also make this a fun filled and learning exercise by showcasing fun-filled
animated films, skits and documentaries on energy conservation to the three
clusters of students
• Post showing animated films, skits and documentaries, we ask students of the
three clusters to come up with paintings, skits and science projects, which will be
screened and selected for the Grand finale
In addition to the various activities being conducted with students, when we first interact
with them, we are also conducting three workshops of origami, theatre and science for the
three clusters of 2nd to 4th , 5th to 7th and 8th and 9th respectively in January 2010. The
theme across all these work shops is energy conservation.
The paintings, skits and science projects which were announced when we first interacted
with the children will be screened at a zonal level competition in January 2010 followed
by the Grand Finale where the winners of the zonal rounds will be felicitated.
