Welcome to the 24th Annual

Public Interest Project Auction Gala!
Thank you for attending the 24th Annual Public Interest Project (PIP) Auction
Gala! Needless to say, Im delighted that youre here. Its precisely because of your
support that PIP is able to help our applicants further their dedication to public
interest work.
Just as it has been for the past twenty-four years, PIP remains committed to
helping law school students further their devotion to public interest work. With the
aid of PIPs grants, students that are dedicated to public interest are able to spend their
summers working on worthwhile causes. They work with low income clients who - in
spite of their need - cant afford legal representation. They work to protect
immigrants who have no one else to turn to. They work in government agencies that
aid underserved populations. Regardless of the kind of work they do, all of our
applicants share the earnest belief that they can help improve the world around them.
Your support helps make that belief into reality.
To be perfectly clear, PIP is a student-run organization. This means that any
recognition of PIP must also acknowledge that PIP couldnt function without the
enthusiasm and zeal of our applicants. Throughout the course of this past year, all of
our applicants have volunteered in the community, solicited donations from local
vendors, and helped PIP prepare for this Auction. Our applicants do this in spite of the
fact that theyre all exceptionally busy law school students who juggle a variety of
responsibilities, including moot court, clinic work, and full class schedules.
So on behalf of PIPs Auction Team, I want to thank everyone thats here
tonight for supporting PIP. We couldnt put this event on without the assistance of
BUs alumni, BUs faculty, and the greater Boston community. I hope that everyone
enjoys everything that tonights Auction Gala has to offer. Feel free to meet new
friends, make the most of the refreshments, and bid on our vast range of auction
items. And remember: all proceeds raised in tonights Gala goes directly towards
funding PIP grants.
Sincerely,

PIP Salary for a Day

Pledge Card
The Salary for a Day program allows you to donate one day

A Letter from the Co-Presidents

Welcome to the 24th Annual Public Interest Project Auction Gala! Since
1984, the student-run Boston University School of Law Public Interest Project
(PIP) has aided BU Law students public interest and pro bono pursuits. We are
delighted to be surrounded by so many alumni, faculty, staff, students, and members
of the Boston community who share our enthusiasm for public interest work and
community service.
Last year, PIP provided 75 summer grants to students working in a wide
variety of public interest fields. The 2014 PIP grant recipients assisted a diverse
group of organizations, both foreign and domestic, by providing legal services to
underserved populations. Many of last summers grant recipients advocated on behalf
of indigent clients in suits involving housing disputes, employment discrimination, or
disability benefits. Other students worked in government agencies inside and outside
the Commonwealth. This year, 63 dedicated PIP applicants are pursuing similar
positions with non-profit organizations, legal aid agencies, and government entities.
The dedication of these students is inspiring, and PIP is proud to support this talented
group of attorneys.
PIP benefits from significant institutional support, and we are honored to
have the continued guidance and assistance of the BU Law community, including our
remarkable advisor Jill Collins. Additionally, PIPs successes could not be achieved
without the efforts of PIPs Executive Board whose enthusiasm, flexibility, and work
ethic are unsurpassed. We thank them for their dedication and commitment. Finally,
to our amazing Auction Gala sponsors and donors: your contributions are the reason
we are here tonight. Your support and participation allows PIP to continue providing
meaningful opportunities for BU Law students. We cannot thank you enough.
