Good morning to the honourable judges , beloved

teachers and my dear friends.This morning i want

to talk about pollution and how can we , the
pupils reduce the pollution for a better future.

Pollution means contamination of natural

resources.There are many types of pollution such
as air , water and noise pollution.The biggest
challenge facing humanity today is the pollution
of air and sea.

In fact , some countries such as Malaysia ,

Singapore and Indonesia face the haze related
pollution yearly.This is due to open burning done
by some irresponsible people without considering
the long time effect on the planet that they live
in.

Factories too emit pollutants and hazardous

waste substances into the air and into the sea.

Vehicles such as four wheel drives ,trucks and

motorcycles also emit the dangerous carbon
monoxide which adds to the danger we face from
pollution.

Students like you and me can help to reduce

pollution and create a healthy atmosphere for
everyone to live in.For a beginning , we can either
walk or cycle to school and to the shops if our
house is near by.The pupils who stay at a
distance can either car pool or use the services of
a school bus.This can drastically cut down
emissions from vehicles especially during peak
hours ,thus the noise and air pollution can be
reduced.

Open burning is another major source of air

pollution.Burning rubbish openly releases harmful
chemicals and gases.This will create a dangerous
environment as we have to breathe contaminated
air and eventually we will fall sick.

It is our duty to spread this awareness and even

set an example by tying up garbage or garden
refuse in garbage bags to be collected by the
garbage collectors.

Smoking too pollutes the atmosphere.Smoking

among students has become a worrying trend
nowadays.It is vital for the authorities to prevent
this trend from spreading like a wild fire among
pupils .The students should be exposed to
dangers of diseases such as cancer and heart
disease which is caused by smoking.

We can also play an active role by reporting to

policemen if we come across vehicles spewing
out smoke on the roads or if we saw factories
emitting smoke and hazardous chemicals in the
atmosphere.

We have a role to play in reducing pollution.This

is because pollution is contributing to global

warming which threatens our existence in the not

too distant future.

The understanding of the dangers of pollution has

to start at a young age and students like us
should spread awareness on the importance of a
safe future.Thank you.
