Unit 3: Peoples Background
A. Vocabulary

Aims:

Broaden the range of vocabulary related to the topic,

Ss may not use the vocabulary correctly, so teacher should give them a sentence as an
example.

Teacher presents vocabularies:


-tutor: (noun)/ tjut/: a private teacher
+Teacher explains:Im a student at university, and I am
making some money by teaching an individual student.
This means that I work as a

colors.
+Teacher asks: Base on the sentence, can you tell me the
Vietnamese equivalent of the phrase with flying color

Vietnamese. Now listen to it in English.

speaking, the teacher say stop talking and asks students

+teacher lists examples of careers: teacher, engineer,
photographer these are all career. Ask student to give
more example.
NOTE: After eliciting each word, teacher asks the hold
class to repeat the word then calls some of them to repeat
it (correct students pronunciation if necessary). After that,
teacher writes down the word and its Vietnamese
equivalent on the board.
Activity 1:
Teacher- Build up a list of new words on the board, after students
each word, put the Vietnamese translation. Ask
students to copy the list into theirs book then close
the books.
- Rub out the words one at a time, each time teacher
rubs out the English word, point to the Vietnamese
and ask whats this in English
- When all the English words are rubbed out, go
through the Vietnamese list and make student call
out the English word.
Activity 2:
- Ask students to work in group 3 or 4 and give each
group some pieces of papers with a new word in
each.
- Teacher speaks out the Vietnamese word and ss

Activity 3:
- Ask the students to work in group and show them
some sentences, each of which has a missing word.
- Get the students to complete theses sentences with
the given word, which group has the most correct
sentences will be the winner.
Ss are given some sentences. Their duty is to paraphrase Teacherthe sentences using the words they learnt.
