staged in Delhi and India, casting a shadow on the Asian Games in 1951 and1982. A
noteworthy fact is that the Commonwealth Games village was built on the ood plains of
the Yamuna with the purpose to host the games. The ocial mascot of the Games was
Shera and the ocial song of the Games, "Jiyo Utho Bado Jeeto", was composed by
celebrated Indian musician A.R. Rahman. This speaks about the grandeur and signicant
eects of this event.

Finally, like aspiring athletes, aspiring host cities seek their moment of fame, the
opportunity to show the world what they can do better than anyone, and anywhere, else.
The tourists visiting the country at the time of the event being hosted work as live
advertisements, why not do our best and bank on them?

Major sporting events are actively sought after by governments. The long-term benets far
outweigh the short-term cost. Through major events critical initiatives can be addressed,
core attitudes shifted, key strategic priorities fullled. To take on the responsibility of host
