About the S30 liferaft


Whats the difference between an S30 liferaft
and other VIKING liferafts?
VIKING offers S30 liferafts in all types and sizes. The
containers are the same and therefore the same racks
and ramps and instructional material can be used.
SOLAS liferafts require annual service at a certified
servicing station. The S30 liferafts are serviced using
a combination of annual on board inspection and
standard service at 30 months at a certified S30
Liferaft servicing station.

VIKING supports S30 service


VIKING supplies all the necessary tools and
information. Personnel on board must be certified to
be able to carry out inspections and reporting. VIKING
provides web-based training and certification.
The S30 liferafts have an extra window hatch at
the end of the container to make visual on board
inspection possible.
Not all flag states approve liferafts with extended
service intervals. Contact your local VIKING office for
more information.

Rules and regulations


The VIKING S30 liferafts are approved according to SOLAS and HSC codes. Onboard testing
is covered by IMO resolution MSC.1/Circ.1328 of 11 June 2009, Guidelines for the approval
of inflatable liferafts subject to extended service intervals not exceeding 30 months.
It is not possible to get an extension longer than 30 months.

Inspection and service


Annual onboard inspections combined with standard service
at 30 month intervals
S30 web-based solution
VIKINGs S30 Portal contains all the information
needed. Personnel achieve certification via online
e-learning programs and reporting. Instructions,
troubleshooting and reporting are all in one place and
accessible at any location with an internet connection.

Onboard tools
An S30 briefcase is supplied with the liferaft and must
be kept on board for the personnel to use for annual
inspections.
The briefcase contains an instruction manual, the
testing tool to read measurements, a special flashlight
and a log book.

Onboard testing in 3 easy steps


1) Register date and serial number in the logbook
2) Enter the testing tool through the window and
hold against the testing field
3) Record the result of the readout in the logbook,
which is your documentation for authorities.

Service after 30 months


At 30 months the liferaft must be sent to a servicing
station approved to service the S30 liferaft. A current
list is available in the S30 Portal or contact your local
VIKING office.
