It cannot be denied that the use of information technology nowadays reshaped

ethics in society in a way that requires new moral choices. Technology is not the
only cause of the issues arising, in fact issues come to surface whenever there is
a conflict of interests between two parties in which a party is materially affected
by the negative behavior of the other. It is also well known that the applications
of information help us to communicate in a fast and easy way but what morals,
ethics should the programmers, creators, and agents have and be equipped with?
Knowing that their course of actions has a huge impact on human affairs, agents
should be able to identify moments-of-thruths or areas in which they may have
an impact and reflect on the decisions made and their effects.
To form an ethical situation, four factors must be taken into consideration: agent,
acts, results, and stakeholders.
Reflection is necessary for agents, its a way to see the reality as it is but there
are a set of ethical theories which can also help agents improve not only their
future actions but how should those actions or decisions be formed and applied.
Ethical theories are various. One of those theories determines that an agents
duty or primary duty is to respect the autonomy of the user, privacy of the
stakeholders and to stick to the provisions of the ACM code of ethics. But
sometimes agents face dilemmas when two or more duties come into conflict,
here its the agents duty to make a reasoned choice.
Another theory concerns itself with the pursuit of happiness. Here it is required to
assess the consequences of an agents actions based on how much good it brings
to people. An agent should choose an act which results in a good way for the
largest number of people.
A third theory deals with the pursuit of virtue. The main focus of this theory is
the improvement of the character of the agent. The concept of virtue changed
throughout the ages with the addition of many virtues a model person should
have.
Finally, there is the tradition of the pursuit of justice. Justice requires that every
stake holder should enjoy an equal opportunity to develop his or her talents and
skills and achieve his or her potential.
When facing a moment-of-truth, the agents should take in consideration many
ethical views. To decide on an ethical issue four considerations must be taken
into account: who should decide? Who should benefit? How should the decision
be made? And how can the issue be prevented from rising in the future?
The articles here deal with the way to create a good society in the information
age. The ethics of using applications of information from e-mail to large-scale
systems are arguably important ethical issues in todays society. A model citizen
and professional in this age is the one able to identify moments-of-truths and
assess the effects of his behavior and actions which shapes the direction of
society as a whole. The challenge for the professionals remains in understanding

the facts of each case, relying on ethical traditions for help and taking a broader
perspective when implying actions.
