Loureno FD, Furlan MMDP. Olfactory sensitivity in men and dogs: a comparative study. Arq Mudi.
2007;11(2):14-9.
ABSTRACT. Smell is a sense that allows both humans and other terrestrial species to get information
about the environment that is transmitted by chemical substances. However, when the studies
compare the olfactory capacities of humans with those of other mammals, specially the dog, it is
noticed that the sense of smell of this animal is far greater than that of the man. Therefore, this work
had the purpose of making a comparative survey of the anatomical and physiological aspects of the
olfactory system of men and dogs in an attempt of identifying where the different sensitivities of this
sense are found.
