ABSTRACT
This test is done to determine the aggregate impact value of coarse
aggregates. The apparatus used for determining aggregate impact value of
coarse aggregates is Impact Testing Machine. Sieves of sizes 12.5mm,
10mm and 2.36mm, a cylindrical metal measure of 75mm dia. and 50mm
depth, a tamping rod of 10mm circular cross section and 230mm length,
rounded at one end and Oven.
INTRODUCTION
The aggregate impact value of coarse aggregate provides a relative measure
of the resistance of an aggregate to sudden shock or impact. The oven dried
and accurately weighed aggregates are subjected to a total of 15 blows of
specified weight and fall and percentage of fines formed in terms of the total
weight of the sample is expressed as the aggregate impact value.
CALCULATION:
Percent Wear (%) =
Weight
Initial Weight
x 100
The results obtained show they ara put below the requirement of 15%
accordance with JKR standard, and are therefore suitable to be used in road
construction.
Record of Observations:
Sample I
Total weight of dry sample
70.9 gm
Taken = W1 gm
Weight of portion passing
2.36 mm sieve = W2 gm
49 gm
= 49 x 100
709
= 6.9 %
Questions:
1. State your group discussion and conclusion on data-data you achieve.
To determine Aggregate Impact Value we must do some procedures. For
our group, we follow confidentiality procedures step by step. Through to
get the aggregate impact value. And the value we get is a less than 15%
according to JKR standard. Means our aggregate impact value is in a
good condition.
2. Two sets of aggregate passing sieve 14 mm and retained on 10 mm
sieve weighed on an electronic balance. Set A weight 630 g and set B
weight 614 g. the weights retained on sieve size 2.36 after the impact
test were 627 g and 603 g respectively for sets A and B. Calculate the
Aggregate Impact Value (AIV).
Set A :
Aggregate impact value
= W2 x 100
W1
= 627 x 100
630
= 99.5 %
Set B :
Aggregate impact value
= W2 x 100
W1
= 603 x 100
614
= 98.2 %
