Egypt Rewrite

At eighteen years old, Tutankhamen was dead. His family was very sad to
lose him. However, as news had spread through Europe, something surprising
happened. The citizens of Egypt were glad.
This is because of their belief that his spirit will travel to the land of the dead.
The land of the dead is wonderful; the king could do everything he enjoyed while
alive in the land of the dead. Tutankhamen could feast, play games, hunt and fish,
happy for all eternity.
Tutankhamen will need things like food, furniture, clothing, games and
jewelry. They will be buried with him to supply his need. The king also requires a
body, so they mummify his body to last for a long time.
The priests then come to the palace to say prayers and dry out his body with
a salt called natron. After many days of waiting, Tutankhamen is wrapped in cloth,
and jewels and charms are placed inside the cloth to ward away evil spirits.
After 70 days the mummy is ready for the funeral and to pass on to the land
of the dead.
The body must be safeguarded, so Tutankhamen will be placed into a secret
underground tomb. Previously, kings were buried in pyramids, but those had been
ransacked.
The kings funeral proceeded as a parade walks along the Nile River. His wife
prayed aloud while walking.
Because the Egyptians believed that gods took the shape of animals, the
priests wore animal masks and leopard skins. One of the priests wore a dog mask to
represent Anubis, the god of funerals. The priests proceed to chant and sing.
Women cried and tore at their clothes to show how sad they were to lose
their king.
Behind the women came hundreds of servants, who carried the kings
treasure chests full of clothes and jewels, weapons and chariots, and baskets of
flowers, food and wine. The servants also brought hundreds of tiny statues who turn
into magic servants in the land of the dead to serve their king.
Beautiful boats ferried the people and treasure across the river to a rocky,
deserted valley.
The coffin itself was put on some kind of sled to be pulled up the rocky path.
The people followed behind, walking for miles in hot and dusty conditions.
After hours of walking they finally arrived at the secret entrance to the valley. The
valley is a royal graveyard guarded by priests day and night.
An opening was cut into the ground for the secret tomb, and a fire blazed
beside it.
The priests prayed while touching the mummys eyes, mouth and ears so it
can see, speak and hear in the land of the dead.
The mummy was put inside the coffin and carried inside the tomb with all of
the kings treasure.
Afterwards a great funeral feast began with music, dancing, food and wine.
After the feast was over, the entrance to the tomb is hidden with stones to
deter robbers.

Everyone went back across the river, satisfied that the king is on his way to a
new life.
