Number of Un-Immunized children by zone

July 2014 versus 2013

Nationally, the country achieved 41% (312,728) reduction in number of un-immunized children from
Jan-July 2014, compared to Jan-July 2013. 17 states (46%) achieved greater than 50% reduction in the
number of un-immunized children Jan-July 2014 compared to the same period in 2013.
Measles cases continued to be detected in places that showed poor performance in immunization.
Increase in number of un-immunized children in 2014 is seen in SEZ.

Intensification of Routine Immunization in 39 polio HR LGAs Phase 1 (Jan-Jun 2014)

30 Polio HR LGAs project Phase 1 (Dec-Jun 2014). The country shifted from 1:2:3 strategy to 1:4:3 strategy, which led to an increase in the
number of Fixed and Outreach sessions. Comparative data from 2013 & 2014 shows number of children immunized increased from 141,550
to 240,453. Number of unimmunized children dropped from 72,087 to 11, 229. Vaccine availability improved, sessions cancelled due to
vaccine stock out decreased. Immunization status of children as evidenced by LQAS shows improvement in Appropriately immunized
children increased from 38% to 49%, Partially immunized children increased from 22% to 33% and reduction in the Not Immunized
children from 36% to 18%.

Improvement in Routine Immunization

Planning & Implementation:
Quarterly review of National Routine Immunization Strategic Plan (2013-2015)
Coverage is improving compared to the previous years and attempts are being made to validate it at every
opportunity DQS, Supportive supervision, smaller surveys (local) etc.
RI intensification projects in polio HR areas are being implemented 39 Polio HR project, 17 cVDPV project
& hard to reach project.
Cold Chain & Vaccine Security:
Vaccine availability has improved remarkably and lesser number of sessions are being cancelled due to
shortage of antigens.
Cold chain equipment is being procured and installed at PHCs
Tracking of vaccine stock outs is being done by using the Vaccine dashboard
Supportive Supervision & Capacity Building
Supportive supervision has been intensified with the launch of NRTRIS (Nigerias real-time tracking of
Routine immunization supervision), Mobile Device Data etc Data on 7,000 RI supervisory visits for the last
7 months is being analysed for action
Polio Surge capacity in the north are being used to support RI Training, supervision, capacity building and
data analysis.
DVD to train HW on safe injection practices and proper technique of administering RI vaccines has been
mass produced with support from WHO.
