Reflection Paper On Social Learning

It is mandatory for all the student of BRAC University to attend in residential semester
(RS) which is situated in Savar . Now I am in residential semester. Here the teachers or the
authority of BRACU provides us some practical learning besides our conceptual learning. One of
these activities is called social learning lab. It is mandatory for all the student to attend social
learning lab. Last Saturday (08-10-11) we all the student of HUM sec 1-3 completed our social
learning lab. It was a memorable experience of my life.
In social learning lab day I was in dormitory group and my role was a cleaner of
Sanjiban building.It was really interesting but hardworking role for me. I enjoyed my duty and
learned many things on that day.
As it was the first time I did such kind of work so I was very excited. But when I started
my work at dawn I found the task not so easy, it was really hardworking. On that day our duty
was started in the morning at 6 am. At first we cleaned the campus by Jharu. In spite of having
nine members in our dishwasher group it was very difficult for us to complete our task. Then
after having breakfast my main duty was started. I cleaned all the toilets and the floor of sanjiban
building. Then I have to collect all the dirty towels from the toilets and exchange with the new
one. There was a professional, I mean an instructor for helping me. He (mama) helped me lot. I
am very grateful to him. Without his help, it was not possible for me to complete my task.
Before this social lab day I didnt have any idea about this job (Cleaner). But now I know
many things about this job, I have practical experience on this job. Now I know how to wash a
toilet, how to clean the floor. I also learn how to keep a place neat and clean. Though the job of a
clener is very important and difficult but we are student and our aim is to shine in future life, so I
still believe thatit is not a very good job for the student. But I also agree with that the people who
are involve in this profession should not neglected at all. When I knew that always only three or
four persons maintain all these work from dawn to late night, I was really surprised. And then I
understood that how they are sacrificing and suffering all day long only for our sake to serve us
properly.We should give them proper respect. They areequally important for this society.

Ethics is a name of subject or discipline and it is for people who belong to society. As we
are living in society so ethics is for us. I passed my social learning lab day by performing a job as
a cleaner which is related to social work. I did this job only from my good will. And this
goodwill directed me to perform my task. I didnt do it for my interest or wish or any benefit. i
did it without any force or even any condition. I did it as a duty and this duty has given my work
moral value. So I think that my job is related to Immanuel Kants Ethics of duty concept.
Regarging to this concept my job has fulfilled all the condition that Immanuel Kant said. Though
my job was hard one but I get plesure from it. And according to the view of sophist, I am the
judge of my own work.
