Dr.

Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor

Descending the Mountain
Mt. Everest is the highest point on earth at 29,035 feet.
Amazingly, people are still trying to conquer it, as in 1300
1600 climbers, but also 160+ have died. However, it is more
dangerous to descend than to climb Mt. Everest, with more
dying on the way down than on the way up. Our church
has been on a spiritual mountain top this season, and the
view has been wonderful. Some of the largest and most
successful events in our churchs history have occurred. We
have a happy spirit of unity. People are being saved and
baptized. Praise God, we paid off our debt. I hear weekly testimonies of lives
changed.
While the season and its busyness seems to be over, we are not to breathe
sighs of relief because of lesser traffic, more seats at restaurants, or better tee
times. We will miss our friends as they go up north. We continue the ongoing
ministries of the church and run the race for the Lord. After so many wonderful
times of worship, satan invariably counter-attacks. Like good soldiers, we must
establish a perimeter of defense in prayer that we may be able to stand against
the schemes of the devilpraying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and
supplication, keeping alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the
saints (Ephesians 6:11, 18).
Like Governor Nehemiah who was rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, we
must not be distracted by satans diversions but declare, I am doing a great
work so that I cannot come down (Nehemiah 6:3). Obviously we have the
goal of the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).
The word goal means a particular focal point on which we fix our attention.
Concentration is the secret to power. If a river is controlled and channeled,
it becomes a source of power. If it overflows its banks, the area becomes a
swamp. We must continue to focus on knowing Christ.
We are thrilled to have Troy Maragos on the field as our new Pastor of College
and Twenty-somethings. Please warmly welcome his sweet wife Grace and
Mia. He begins a new Bible and Life Group this weekend.
I have been on a mission trip this week preaching in Argentina at the International
Word of Life Bible Institute. Pray for Kevin Taylor as he teaches Gods Word
this weekend. We are so thrilled to have him and Greg Clydesdale ministering
to students. I look forward to being blessed with you next week as Dr. Charles
Lowery challenges us concerning the family. I return to the study the following
week concerning Abraham.
