Sharon Dowell is a painter, public art commissioned artist, and Rowe Galleries
Coordinator and Adjunct Professor at UNC Charlotte. She is currently a Masters
in Arts Administration candidate at Winthrop University and earned a BFA
from UNC Charlotte in 2002. A native Houstonian, she has resided in Charlotte
for 15 years.
Dowell exhibits nationally and her work is in the collections of The Federal
Reserve Bank, SPX, Renaissance Hotel, Pricewaterhousecoopers, Fidelity
Investments, and Duke Energy, among others. She kicked off her public art
career in 2008 with a mural through The Arts and Science Council. Other recent
projects include murals for The City of Concord, NC in 2013, and in 2014, the
ASCs Art Pop! billboard project and the United Buddy Bear sculpture, located
at the Main Public Library in Uptown Charlotte. Currently she is underway on
two projects for Charlottes CATS Transit: I-277 and 11th St. underpass murals
and art for the future 25th Street light rail station, as well as bus shelters for
Durhams Bull City Connector bus line. Her residencies include The McColl
Center for Visual Art, Tyrone Guthrie Center in Ireland, NES in Iceland, United
Buddy Bear Studios in Berlin, and the Julia and David White Colony in Costa
Rica. Sharon received two Arts and Science Council Regional Artist Project
Grants and was voted Best Artist by Charlotte Magazine in 2012. Heavily
involved in the arts community in Charlotte, she also sits on the McColl Center
for Visual Art Exhibition Committee.

LIABILITY: Southern Arts Society (SASI) accepts no responsibility for any loss
or damage of artwork. Concerned artists should provide their own insurance
coverage. SASI reserves the right to decline any works and to withdraw any
work from the exhibition at its discretion. SASI reserves the right to
photograph, film or reproduce any entry submitted for educational, marketing, or
publicity purposes. Entry in the exhibition constitutes agreement by the artist
with all conditions set forth in this prospectus.

PICK UP OF ART: Artwork must be picked up on the scheduled date. Artwork

left beyond 30 days will become property of Southern Arts Society.

SPECIFICATIONS: Two-dimensional work is restricted to 48" by 48"

including frame. Painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel), drawing, sculpture,
jewelry, printmaking, photography, mixed media and fiber are eligible. Works
on paper (including photography) must be protected by glass or Plexiglas and
framed. Art must be properly framed or gallery wrapped (sides properly
finished), and wired for hanging. Mats must be neat and clean (no signatures
or titles on the mat). Fiber art must be ready to hang, with rod supplied by the
artist. Three-Dimensional work is limited to 2'x2' of floor space, less than 6' tall
and weigh less than 50 lbs. Three-D work must sit solidly on a flat surface or be
properly mounted for hanging.
The following will NOT be accepted: wet paint or inks, duplicates, giclees or
copies. Unacceptable framing includes: clip frames, saw-tooth hangers,
staples or tape. All work must be presented in a professional manner.
Inadequately prepared work will not be considered for exhibit.
