Background
The Jorge B. Vargas Museum and Filipiniana Research Centre, located at the University of
the Philippines Diliman,was formally inauguratedon1987.AsacentreforPhilippineartsand
culture, the museum holds a distinction of being the only art repository in the country
embracing the entirerangeofFilipinocreativity.Throughitsexhibitions,research,educational
activities and museum development projects, Vargas Museum contributes towards the
appreciation of the countrys artistic heritage and the awareness ofPhilippinehistoryandart.
It aims to enliven the spiritwith whichJorge Vargas, to whom themuseumwasnamedafter,
nurtured his collections of art. This vision is continually realized through collaborationswith
institutions and audiences, as well as dialogues betweenthemuseumspermanentcollection
and,archivesandcontemporaryartists.

OperationsOverview
The U.P. Vargas Museum, more popularly known for its rich collection of artworks from
renowned Filipino artists,is also home to a diverse body of archives andmanuscripts that is
considered to bea unique and primary source of historical information. The library houses a
vast collection of books and volumes of periodicals. It is an excellent venue for advanced
scholarsinavarietyofdisciplinestopursuetheirindividualorinstitutionalresearch.

The museum is openon Tuesdays to Saturdays at 9 AM to 5 PM.Theregularadmissionfee

is 30 PhP but UPstudents, alumni,facultyandemployeesgetadiscountforonly20PhP.On
Wednesdays, entrance is free for the UP community. The museum can accommodate50 to
100 visitors at one time, however tours for large groups is also possible given prior notice.
The library and archives are open by appointment only and subject toa 20 PhP admission
fee.

In its vision to promote arts and history awareness, UP Vargas also offers educational kids
and activities for interested parties. Educational Guides of the featured exhibits are available
for free on their website. They also do talks and conferences that may or may not be inline
with their current exhibits.Workshopsandart lessons for kids and adults arealsoconducted
ofteninthesummer.

Focus
The group wants to focus on the overall operations of the Vargas museum. First, wewantto
evaluate how the museum sources the artworks that it displays. This evaluation will cover
determining howtheyfindandchooseexhibitorsat aparticulartime.Inadditiontothis,wewill
also examine the museums procedures on ensuring the authenticity and quality of their
different works of art. Aside fromthese,wewillassesshowthemuseum personnelsaddress

visitor concerns and givevaluable experience. Lastly, we plan to assess the informationflow
to, from, and within the organization. Overall, the group will be conducting a 360 degree
operationsevaluationofthemuseumandgivethemrecommendationstofurtherimprove.
