explain why day and night occurs. They will also be
able to explain how to calculate a year and why we
have a leap year after four years.
Opening Activity: (10 minutes)
Ask students to think about why day and night occurs
and then write them down on a paper. Students
discuss their ideas with each other.

Learning experience: (25 minutes)


Use a globe and a torch to explain day and night.
Show a poster on how day and night occurs.
Ask the students how much time it takes for the Earth
to complete one revolution (one complete orbit).
Explain how to calculate a year and why do we have
leap year after four years.

journals.
Teacher will show a work example on the white board.
Closing Activity: (5 minutes)
Agenda: Research how Al Battani calculated the
length of the year in the tenth century.

Discuss the responses and review the previous lesson.
Learning Experience: (25 minutes)
Show them the globe and ask them what they think
about the weather of north and south pole and the
weather of the regions around the equator. Explain
the climate by showing the images of different regions

fascinated by the idea of endless days and endless
nights. Imagine a planet that doesnt spin. On it,
forms of life have evolved very differently from those
found on Earth. Think of what may live on the dark
side and light side of the planet. Think of forms of life
that couldnt possibly exist. Create a short story for a
blockbuster movie about:
