Unity Operating Systems Compatibility Rules

This document concerns Operating Systems compatibility, exceptions and recommendations for native Unity Pro Processors.
Please refer to the Whats New documentation in Unity Pro for information about compatibility between Operating System versions,
application program versions and Unity Pro versions.

Definitions
Copro = Coprocessor: embedded Ethernet port.
PV =
Product Version: the PV increases by one digit when a functional change is made in an Operating System, in a Copro or in a
Hardware part.
SV =
Software Version: the version of the Operating System (OS) delivered with the Processor module.

Compatibility Rules & Recommendations

1. Processor Operating Systems are upward compatible: updating a processor with a higher Operating System version is always allowed.
2. It is recommended to always upgrade the OS version of a processor with the latest available version.
3. It is recommended that the Copro version is associated with the OS version indicated in the QUANTUM - Launch History tables below
(mandatory for HotStandby Systems).
4. It is mandatory to upgrade the Ethernet Coprocessor before the Processor OS.
5. It is not recommended to downgrade the OS of a Processor:

Attention
Do not download an OS version V2.31 or lower in the
processors listed below. Otherwise, it will no longer be
possible to change the OS version:

CPUs with PV < 04 include RAM Memory chip whose characteristics

are not totally adapted to the Unity program execution.
According to the used memory size, these CPUs can work in Unity
range but can also present defects in case of Online changes,
configuration changes or programs size increase.
The consequences that can have are:
- No start of the CPU
- Some modules are not working in the configuration.

Quantum HotStandby
A Unity Quantum Hot Standby system must have strictly identical configurations for both PLCs:
Same Copro version
Same Operating System (also called EXEC) version.
Note: It is possible to upgrade the CPU (OS and Copro) of a Quantum HSBY configuration with a higher version without stopping the system.
Please refer to the Modicon Quantum Hot Standby with Unity Pro" User Manual for complete information and recommendations.
Also, please refer to the online documentation in Unity Pro to check the executable compatibility (and the exceptions) of an application program
with the Operating System version.

Limitations on the online upgrade procedure

For the Operating System, it is not recommended to upgrade an OS Version V2.xx to version V2.40 or V2.41.
For the Coprocessor, it is not recommended to upgrade a Copro version V0.80 to version V2.50.
It is strongly recommended to use the latest versions of OS V2.80 and the Copro V2.80.
Recommendations on the OS V2.80 upgrade:
The OS version V2.80 brings a better stability of the HSBY system by synchronizing the cycle time of the 2 PLCs.
However, for some StandBy application the cycle time may be increased and become greater than the configured period. Due to the
new synchronization mechanism, an Overrun is more controlled in V2.80, and therefore this will lead the standBy PLC to go to
HALT mode.
In this case, it is enough to adjust the StandBy PLC period time to find a normal functioning.

Change Configuration On The Fly functionality on Quantum High End and Low End
The version V2.80 of Quantum HE and LE CPU contains all features to perform CCOTF functionalities.
It requires an UnityPro Application built with UnityPro V5.0 and the binary files of 140CRP 93100/93200 /140CRA93100/93200 in version V2.0,
available under RIO_modules folder in this eCD.
The Quantum OS V2.80 is compatible with the previous versions of the CRP/CRA modules and with UnityPro Application < V5.0.
To upgrade CRA / CRP modules please refer to the Quantum_Upgrade_Procedure document available on this eCD.
