Experiment: 1
Aim :
To create a complete Solid Model for the given Base
Sketch of a PISTON with the specified Dimensions
shown.
Software:
By Using CATIA software
Procedure :
1. Launch CATIA V5 software
2. Press Start from CATIA, Choose Mechanical design
then Start a new file in the Part Design Work bench.
3. Select XY plane by invoking sketcher tool from the
specifications TREE.
4. Construct a rectangle by clicking Rectangle button on
the Profile Tool bar with specified dimensions to
represent the first half of the model given in the base
sketch(Drg.)
5. Construct a circle of R 250 mm by clicking circle
button on the Profile tool bar and place it exactly on the
center axis of the rectangle, such that the top surface of
the rectangle is a curved surface.

6. Use trim tool from the operation tool bar to remove


excess and unwanted parts of a circle as per the
drawing.
7. Construct ridges on the upper surface of the piston
model at the specified dimensions of the drawing.
8. Mirror the obtained ridges by using the tool button from
the operation on the other side of the rectangle.
9. Exit Sketcher from the workbench. Then select the pad
tool button from the sketch based tool bar and pad the
desired figure.
10.The base of the figure obtained is selected and sketcher
tool button is to invoke from the sketcher tool bar.
11.Circles of the required dimensions are drawn to its
base then again exit from the existing work bench.
12.The Pocket tool button on sketch based features tool
bar is selected and to be applied to the above drawn
circles up to desired dimensions to visualize the solid
model of the given PISTON.
13.Save the file with appropriate name

Experiment : 2
Aim :
To create an Extruded Solid Model for the given Base
Sketch as per the specified Dimensions shown.
Software:
By Using CATIA software
Procedure :
1. Launch CATIA V5 software
2. Press Start from CATIA, Choose Mechanical design
then Start a new file in the Part Design Work bench.
3. Select XY plane by invoking Sketcher tool from the
specifications TREE.
4. Draw the figure as shown by analyzing the front view
and construct a rectangle from the Profile Tool bar.
5. Construct a circle of R 50 mm by clicking circle
button on the Profile tool bar and place it exactly as
shown in the front view according to the drawing and
remove the excess parts, by trim tool.
6. Construct other circles also of R50, R5, R10and place
them in respective positions as per the drawing.

7. Also construct circles at a height of 42 mm from


base, of Radius of dia.22 and dia.8
8. Exit the workbench and pad the drawn figure with
help of Pad button tool on the sketch based tool bar.
9. The base of the figure is the rectangle is given some
more padding of specified dimensions such that the
figure is viewed as per the drawing.
10.Pad the circles of dia.8and dia22 in the middle of the
sketch to the required thickness by setting Pad
Spinner dialogue box.
11.Again topface of the block is selected and press
sketcher tool.
12.Then Circles of all dimensions be rechecked and exit
workbench.
13.The pocket button tool on sketch based tool bar also
applied wherever necessary as per the base drawing
and save the file with appropriate file name.

Experiment : 3
Aim :
To create a Solid Model for the given Base Sketch as per
the specified Dimensions and views shown.
Software:
By Using CATIA software
Procedure :
1. Launch CATIA V5 software
2. Press Start, Choose Mechanical design then Start a
new file in the Part Design Work bench.
3. Select YZ plane by invoking sketcher tool from the
specifications TREE.
4. Draw the base of the model as shown by analyzing
the views with the specified dimensions by using
respective tools from the tool bars to complete the
geometry.
5. Invoke the Pad tool from the sketch-based features
tool bar and finds the Pad definition dialogue box and
select the mirror extent radio button in it and set 75 in
the length spinner and press OK button.

(The required Extrusion depth of the base should be


150 as given, as the mirrored extent radio button is
selected)
6. After creating the first feature, you need to create the
second base feature by selecting the XY plane from
the TREE and apply the Pocket tool from the Sketchbase features and choose reverse direction and
reverse side from Pocket definition.
(Preview the pocket feature displayed in the Graphic
area with default values. Notice that the default side
of the extrusion depth is in the direction opposite to
the required direction, therefore need to reverse the
direction of extrusion depth.)
7. Select in the pocket definition dialogue box to Up to
Last option from the Type drop-down list and choose
OK button from Pad definition.
8. Exit Work bench and switch over to XY plane to
create third feature by choosing Plane tool from the
Reference Elements (Expanded) tool bar. Notice the
displayed Plane Definition dialogue box and also
preview the Offset plane with default value is
displayed in the geometry and set it to 180 in the
offset spinner and choose OK button from the plane
definition dialogue box and observe the newly
created 180 mm offset distance plane and Invoke the

new plane as the sketching plane and exit the work


bench.
9. Draw the other sketch also by changing the plane as
per specified dimensions and exit the work bench.
10.Invoke the Pad feature and select again reverse
direction from the pad definition and by choosing the
reverse direction button select the up to surface
option from type drop-down list and select the upper
surface in the figure.
11.Draw a circle of dia.123 and exit work bench.
12.Select pocket too and select 20 length from the
spinner and press OK button
13.Now select the inner surface of the pocket made and
invoke the sketcher.
14.Draw another circle of dia.75 and exit work bench.
15.Again select pocket tool and pocket definition
dialogue box and select Up to last in Type drop-down
list and select OK button.
16.Finally select hole tool and set two holes of each
Dia25 at the ends as shown in sketch.
17.Choose save button and save with proper name

Aim :
To create a Solid Model for the given Vacuum cleaner
Nozzle Sketch as per the specified Dimensions and views
shown.
Software:
By Using CATIA software
Procedure :
1. Launch CATIA V5 software
2. Press Start and, Choose Mechanical design then Start
a new file in the Part Design Work bench.
3. Select ZX plane by invoking sketcher tool from the
specifications TREE.
4. Draw the base of the model as shown by analyzing
the views with the specified dimensions by using
respective tools from the tool bars to complete the
geometry.
5. Exit the work bench.

6. Select another plane from Tree as YZ and invoke the


sketcher and place a point at any distance on X-axis
collinear to the sketch and exit work bench.
7. Select origin and point at vertex and a point placed
before and Press OK.
8. Select the new plane and invoke sketcher
9. Draw the other sketch also by changing the plane as
specified dimensions and exit the work bench.
10.Invoke the Pad tool and select mirror extent and set
the value of length 14 in the spinner.
11.Select Plane tool by clicking normal to curve option
from the plane type drop-down list and select right
line of the reference sketch as the curve and then
select curve and upper end point of the same line on
which the plane will be created and click OK button
from the Plane definition dialogue box to use this
plane on the sketcher work bench and the sketch to
create the extrusion from base.
12.Click Exit work bench and open Pad option and set
the value of length as 85 and select newly created
plane and choose the reverse direction button and
click OK.
13.Now select the Extruded portion obtained and
invoke Pocket tool to choose hollow extended part.

14.Then double click on the edge fillet button in the


dress up features tool bar and select the edges of the
model.
15.Again select the shell button from the dress up
features tool bar and set the value for the default as
inside thickness and click OK button.
16.Hence the following model is created as shown with
specified dimensions as required.
17.Choose save button and save with proper filename.

Experiment : 5
Aim :
To create a Solid Model for the given MOTOR COVER
Sketch as per the specified Dimensions and views shown.
Software:
By Using CATIA software
Procedure :
1. Launch CATIA V5 software
2. Press Start, Choose Mechanical design then Start a
new file in the Part Design Work bench.
3. Select YZ plane by invoking sketcher tool from the
specifications TREE.
4. By analyzing the views (top view and side view) with
the specified dimensions to create base feature Draw
Circle of required dimension by clicking circle option
on the profile tool bar as per the geometry of the
figure.
5. Exit the work bench.
6. Now invoke the shaft tool from the sketch-based
features tool bar and select the preview of the model
drawn and click OK button.

7. Invoke Shell tool from the dress-up feature tool bar


and set the value of the default inside thickness
spinner to 3
8. Select the bottom face of the base feature as the face
to be removed. Use tool Rotate and rotated view of
the model after shelling to be viewed properly as
output.
9. After shelling the model, need to create a Pad feature
on the out periphery of the base feature and then
pattern it using the Circular Pattern tool.
10.Draw the sketch for the Pad feature to the
circulatory sketch drawn and exit sketcher work
bench.
11.Invoke Pad Definition and create the pad feature by
extruding the sketch by 5 units. If required, you can
reverse the direction of extrusion using the reverse
direction button and exit the Pad definition dialogue
box.
12.Select the newly created pad feature and invoke the
Circular pattern sub-toolbar in the Transformation
Features tool bar and the circular pattern definition
dialogue box displayed.
13.Click once in the reference element display box and
select the curved face of the base feature as the
reference element. The preview of the pattern is
displayed with default settings in the geometry area.

14.Select the complete crown option from the


Parameters drop-down list, if it not already selected.
15.Set the Value of the Instance spinner to 3 and choose
the OK button from the Circular pattern.
16.Now select the top face of the created base feature
and invoke Sketcher for Pocket tool and extrude the
sketch by 5 units.
17.Select the pocket feature and invoke the rectangular
pattern tool from the Patterns.
18.Click once in the reference element display box and
select YZ plane as the reference element.
19.Set the value of Instance(s) spinner to 7 and the
spacing spinner to 6.
20.Now draw a circle of dia.25 on the internal flat
surface in the sketcher and extrude it by 8 units.
21.Now, apply the fillet and pocket features to the
model to view the final required model.
22.Choose save as and save the file with appropriate
file name.

Experiment : 6
Aim :
To create a Solid Model for the given SOAP CASE
Sketch as per the specified Dimensions and views shown.
Software:
By Using CATIA software
Procedure:
1. Launch CATIA V5 software
2. Start from CATIA, Choose Mechanical design
then Start a new file in the Part Design Work bench.
3. Select YZ plane by invoking sketcher tool from the
specifications TREE.
4. By analyzing the views (top view and side view) with
the specified dimensions to create base feature as per
the geometry of the figure on the YZ plane.
5. Exit the work bench.
6. Now invoke the Pad tool from the sketch-based
features tool bar and select the mirrored extent check
box, and set 175 in the length spinner.
7. Invoke draft angle tool from the dress-up features
tool bar and set 5 degrees in the Angle spinner.

8. You need to draft all the faces that are normal to the
top face. Hence set the option to automatically select
the faces that are normal to the neutral face. Select
the Selection by neutral face check box from Draft
definition dialogue box and prompted to select
Neutral element and select the topface as neutral
element and click on arrowhead if tit points in
upward direction and chose OK button from draft
definition dialogue box.
9. Select YZ plane and invoke sketcher and complete
geometry of the base figure given and exit sketcher.
10.Invoke Pocket and choose reverse side button and
select first limit and second limit areas and also select
the up to last option from the type drop-down list and
press OK.
11.Invoke Edge fillet definition dialogue box and select
all the edges to be filleted as per base sketch. Set the
value of the fillet radius 25 in the radius spinner.
12.Now, create the shell feature by removing the
topface and applying inside wall thickness of 5 units
as in the figure.
13.Now, select XY plane and note that the sketch of the
elongated hole is positioned at 54.5665 mm from the
top edge and exit sketcher workbench.
14.Invoke Pocket and select up to next option from the
type drop-down list and choose OK to create the
pocket feature and exit dialogue box.

15.Now Invoke rectangular pattern button from


transformation features tool bar and se the spinner to
5 and spacing as 97.717 and select the edge in the
reference element dialogue box by choosing reverse
button.
16.Now select the XY plane, and note that the center of
the sketch is aligned with the center of the elongated
hole and exit sketcher.
17.Invoke Pad feature and select up to the next option
from the type drop-down list in the first limit area
and choose more button to expand and set the value
to 8 in the length spinner in the second limit area and
press OK button to exit.
18.Select the newly created pad feature and invoke
rectangular pattern.
19.Set the Instance(s) spinner to 2 and the spacing
spinner to 390.868
20.Choose reverse button and choose the second
direction and set the Instance value to 2 and spacing
to 270.
21.Choose the reverse button to choose O.K. button.
22.Choose save as and save the file with appropriate
file name.

Experiment : 7
Aim :
To create a Solid Model for the given MOUSE COVER
Sketch as per the specified Dimensions and views shown.
Software:
By Using CATIA software
Procedure:
1. Launch CATIA V5 software
2. Choose Mechanical design then Start a new file in the
Part Design Work bench.
3. Select XY plane by invoking sketcher tool from the
specifications TREE.
4. Draw the sketches for creating the multi-sections
solid feature with guides.
5. The base sketches contain two sections and three
guides as per the geometry of the drawing as per
specified dimensions.
6. Draw the sketch as per figure given and exit
workbench on XY plane to draw the first guide.

7. Select XY plane by invoking sketcher and draw the


second guide as per figure given and exit workbench
again.
8. Select the ZX plane and invoke Sketcher and finish
the figure by drawing the third guide and exit work
bench. Note that the ends of the section are
coincident with the ends of the guide covers.
9. Invoke Plane definition and select the through three
points option from the Plane type drop-down list.
Select the tree open endpoints of the curve and
choose OK and observe a plane passing through all
the selected points is created.
10.Select the newly created plane and invoke sketcher
workbench.
11.Now, draw the second section also as given, and
view as a created Mouse cover model.
12. Invoke the multi-sections solid tool from the Sketch
based feature and find displayed Multi-sections solid
definition dialogue box.
13.Select the first section and also the second section
from the geometry area of the figure.
14.Now selecting the sections, you need to ensure that
the closing points are located at the same position on
both sections.
15.Now selecting the sections, you need to select the
guides.
16.Observe and click on the three dots displayed under
the No column head in the guides tab.

17.Now, double click on Edge fillet button to invoke


the edge fillet definition dialogue box and select the
edges and set the value to 15 in the radius spinner and
click OK to exit the fillet definition dialogue box.
18.Choose the Shell option and select the faces to
remove and shell the model by 3 units with shell tool
and select OK.
19. Choose save as and save the file with appropriate
file name.

Aim :
To create a Solid Model for the given JAR Sketch as per
the specified Dimensions and views shown.
Software:
By Using CATIA software
Procedure:
1. Launch CATIA V5 software
2. Choose Mechanical design then Start a new file in the
Wireframe and surface design workbench.
3. Select XY plane by invoking sketcher tool from the
specifications TREE and draw a circle with its center
as the origin and a dia of 90 mm.
4. Place two points on the circle and exit the sketcher
workbench and create a plane at an offset of 20 mm
from the Place two points on the circle and exit the
sketcher workbench and create a plane at an offset of
20 mm from the XY plane.
5. These points will be used to create the guide curve
and define the closing point for creating loft surface.

6. Draw the sketch as per figure given and by selecting


the plane 1and exit workbench on XY plane.
7. Now, you need to join the two points in the two
sections.
8. Choose line button from the wireframe tool bar and
select the two points on the plane shown, when the
line definition dialogue box displayed and click OK.
9. Choose the multi-sections surface tool from the
surface tool bar, prompted to select the curve in
dialogue box displayed.
10. In the multi-sections surface definition dialogue
box, by default a closing point is created, move the
cursor on the text in the closing point and choose
replace closing point option from the menu and select
the point on the section 1 in the geometry of the
figure and choose add button, prompted to select the
curve.
11.Select the second section also in the same manner
from the geometry area and the curve.
12.Now, click the three dots in the display box of the
guides tab to specify the guide and select the curve
also and choose OK button.
13. Closing the OK button from the Multi-Sections
surface definitions box by resulting the multi-sections
surface of the sketch given.
14.Invoke sketcher in YZ plane and choose Axis button
from the profile toolbar and draw vertical axis

passing through the origin and draw the next sketch


and exit Sketcher.
15.Choose Revolve tool from the Surface tool bar and
finds the Revolution Surface definition is displayed
and select the profile to be revolved will be
automatically selected by the drawn axis in the
sketcher and set the value in the Angle 1 spinner to
360 and choose OK button from the revolution
surface definition.
16.Invoke the sketcher and YZ plane to create the
handle of the jug by sweeping the profile along a
guide.
17.Draw the required sketch for the guide curve for Jar
handle and exit the Sketcher
18.Now, create a plane normal to the guide at the upper
endpoint and invoke sketcher again by selecting the
plane 2 as the sketching plane.
19.Now, draw the ellipse for the profile of the sweep
surface as per the geometry requirement of the figure
and exit workbench and click anywhere of the
selection set.
20. Choose Sweep tool from the surface tool bar and
choose explicit button from the profile type area in
the dialogue box and prompted to select the profile
(Ellipse).
21. Select the guide curve on the geometry area and
choose OK button for completing the creation of the
Sweep surface.

22.Choose the spilt option from the split-trim sub-tool


bar in the operations tool bar to remove unwanted
portion of the sweep surface, which is extended
beyond the revolved surface, inside the jar and select
the curve or surface to split by prompting itself.
23.Now, select the sweep surface of the geometry area
and also select revolved surface as cutting element to
complete the split operation.
24.Choose Ok button finally from the split definition
box to view the final model of the finished jar.
25.Choose save as button from the menu bar by giving
proper file name to save.
