where as everyone above E is an economically active member of society E can also
include students.
Scott James (antagonist):
Role: my role in the opening was to be the antagonist so the murderer in the opening.
I feel the reason for me being the murderer because I am tall and a male so
stereotypically I could be used to show dominance. Because our antagonist is young it
could be seen as sinister for the older audience. The characters appearance is hidden
throughout the opening this creates confusion and gets the audience guessing who it is
and what they will look like so they will be in deep concentration which will make
tension breaks more effective. The costume that the antagonist wore was smart dress
as in shirt trousers and tie this gave the antagonist a professional look, so would seem
more threatening and therefore more dangerous. The antagonist character also wore a
hooded coat so that we could hide their identity for the reasons that I stated earlier.
When we showed the antagonist we usually used longshots this made it more difficult
to observe the identity so it was completely hidden but by showing the antagonist it
helped the audience to see the basics of the antagonist like: gender, build etc. the

antagonist had specific props in the flash back part where it showed him with a
hammer about to strike something. The hammer is used in this circumstance as a
weapon with is a typical everyday object that can be used offensively with could
represent the everydayness of the murder as in it is a regular thing that the antagonist
does. The antagonist uses his own body as a kind of physiological weapon you can
see this when the antagonist is over the dead victim and then puts his hand over them.
He also uses his own body physically when he grabs the protagonist when she comes
searching, the fact that the antagonist uses his own body shows his pysical dominonce
over the protagonist which is a key theme of thrillers which is that the protagonist
must overcome a more powerful enemey. Our antagonist wore no make up or
anything like that so you could say that this shows that he likes to be clean and
professional so links in to the earlier comment about professionalism. The location
that the antagonist is filmed in is typical to the thriller genre because it was a creepy
and old building so from the start enforces the phychological thriller feel because
when you see the building you would go straight to thinking about maybe supernatual
creatures and when the antagonist is shown I this place it links him to it ans if he is
the creature in the building; by showing him as a kind of creature it reprents him as a
monster so is not in a non human state of mind. When the antagonist is shown it is
always in the dark so you can see the identiy which shows he does not want to be seen
and for his identity to be shown. From real life thrillers I would say that the antagonist
that is most like the one form my thriller opening is the joker from the batman films. I
feel that they are simiilar on many levels the first of these is costume becasue
although they are both ruthless killers they both wear profesional looking clothing
showing they both lime to have a certain style about them and they also both like to
hide there identity, the joker does this with his use of make up by covering his face

hide his identity. Although these are

different

htey both acheive the same outcome of

the identity which shows they dont want to
which could represnt the fact that they are

of what they have done so hode away to

neglect the blame off them.

Laura hatfield (victim):

. The victims character had been murdered in our opening by Scott's character. She
was the victim in our thriller. Laura's clothing was simple everyday wear however it
was covered in blood and holes from when she was murdered. Laura's role in our
thriller was to be the murder victim that Beckys character would find later on in the
opening. Laura's character is similar to a character such as Red Riding Hood This is
because both Red Riding Hoods cloak and the blood on Laura's body both represent
the danger both characters were in. Red Riding Hood was in danger when she
discovered the wolf and Laura was in danger when she was being murdered. This is
something that makes them both similar. Both characters also show an innocent role
which is sterotypical to females in thriller films as they are shown as innocent this is
clear in red riding hood and other films like taken. We used the victims ripped clothes
and red shoes to create danger and to add picture the struggle she must have gone
through as she was being killed. We arranged her make up to look rough and as
though shed been crying in the agony of her death.
Becky boyfield (Protagonist):

Becky's character is a friend of Laura's in the opening and she then

becomes the one in danger when she goes looking for her freind.
Becky
to

was also a young character in the thriller and furthermore continues

suggest an innocent and vulnerable characteristic. Becky wore
simplistic everyday clothing to the thriller which creates the
link between her and the victim. Becky's role in our thriller

was the protagonist in the opening. Becky's character wanted to find Laura because
she was worried about her and when she found her it ended up with her being attacked
by the antagonist aswell. Becky's character was similar to jodie foster from silence of
the lambs because they both were curious people and beckys character was seaching
for her freind like a detective whereas jodie foster id an actual detective solving
murders so has to get in to the murders head and that is when beckys character would
have had to of done to get to the building were laura was.
