Tape Drum Machines Vol 3 For

Battery

12 x Drum Machines
3 x Tape Machines
plus 1 analog tape emulator.
The Tape machines used: Otari MX5050
1/4" 2 track, Rolla 77 valve mono 1/4
inch, and the Hitachi Cassette deck.
Plus the UBK Fatso was also used
(analog tape emulator).
Drum Machines used: RZ-1, TR-55,
XD-5, MFB-522, DDM-110, DDM-220,
DPM-48, RX-21L, R-100, ED-10, PB-300
and the DSM-1.
The analog drum machines have
multiple samples of each drum sound
to use in Round Robin Layering. This
gives you a more analog feel. Some of
The Battery Kits I have created make
good use of this function...

The Battery version contains:


3498 x 24 Bit drum samples
18 x Kits
A few midi files for previewing the kits

Installation notes:
I recommend not moving anything out
of the "TDMVol3_Batt3" folder.
The supplied Kits and Bundles only use
a portion of the samples on offer in
the sample folder. So You can
customise the pre-made kits or create
all new ones!
The naming convention is on page 18 of
this PDF.

(Super Drums)
Year released - 1984
Made in - Japan
Sounds - 8 bit samples
One of the first
affordable digital drum
machines. Distinctive and
punchy 80's drum sounds.

Korg DDM-220
(Super Percussion)
Year released - 1985
Made in - Japan
Sounds - 8 bit samples
The Latin brother of the
DDM-110. Crunchy
perc!

Yamaha ED-10
Year released - 1983
Made in - Japan
Sounds - Analog
Rare 80's analog percussion
synth. Kind of like the Synare.
I was able to get everything
from deep bass drums to spacey
disco toms. Bought it from a
guy in Japan. Great find!

MFB-522
Year released - 2009
Made in - Germany
Sounds - Analog
If you like your analog drum
machines with an 808 flavour then
this is what you need! Do
yourself a favour and get a real
one... they are fantastic.

Roland TR-55
Year released - 1972
Made in - Japan
Sounds - Analog
Typical 70's Roland drum
machine sound. Warm and
soft...

Roland PB-300
Year released - 1983
Made in - Japan
Sounds - Analog
Unusual drum machine and
auto accompaniment. The
drum sounds are different
from the TR drum machines.
Still warm and analog.

Casio RZ-1
Year released - 1986
Made in - Japan
Sounds - 12 bit samples
Plus 0.8 sec of sampling!
Great LoFi drums. The sampler
is extremely limited but super
crunchy and sometimes nasty in
a good way!

Sakata DPM-48
Year released - 1984
Made in - Japan
Sounds - 12 bit samples?
Obscure drum machine. The
sounds have that 80's digital
punch. A different flavour to its
contemporaries such as the DMX
and Drumulator...

Yamaha RX-21L
Year released - 1985
Made in - Japan
Sounds - 12 bit samples
Yamaha's 80's Latin drum
machine. Maybe trying to
compete with Roland's
TR-727 and Korg's DDM-220.
Crunchy digital Perc...

Kawai XD-5
Year released - 1990
Made in - Japan
Sounds - 16 bit samples
with digital Synthesis!
This unit really surprised
me. I wasn't expecting a very
editable digital percussion
synth! Layering, Envelopes,
Filters, modulation. Spent a
considerable time with this
machine! Was able to create
some great drums...

MPC ELectronics DSM-1


released - 1980's
Made in - United Kingdom
Sounds - Analog
Unusual analog drum module. Was intended for use with MPC
Electronic's drum pads for a Simmons style set up.
Dirty, raw and very analog drum sounds...

Kawai R-100
released - 1986
Made in - Japan
Sounds - 12 bit
samples

Very aggressive drum


sound. Deep and
industrial.

Rolla 77 MkIII
Made sometime between 1962
and 1970.
Mono Valve 1/4 inch machine.
This machine needs servicing!
However I can't bring myself
to do it because I like how it
sounds. I'm scared it will
lose it's mojo!

The Kush UBK Fatso


What's this doing here, well...
The FATSO acronym stands for Full Analog
Tape Simulator and Optimizer. That's why!
The Kush Audio's Modded Empirical Labs Fatso
is probably one of my favourite rack units.
I love it and It just had to get involved with
this project!

Otari MX5050
Made in the 1990's
Solid State 1/4" two
track tape machine
Fully restored and
calibrated... this
machine sounds great.

Hitachi D-E7
Made in the 1990's
3 head cassette deck
I love the sound of
cassettes especially
on BD and with dirty
old dolby B or C on...

Naming Convention:
Clean = Original drum sound recorded straight into the ULN-2.
Tape1 = Otari MX5050 1/4 inch 2 track machine... recorded normal level.
Tape2 = Otari MX5050 1/4 inch 2 track machine... different gain (more saturation).
TapeB = Rolls Valve 1/4 inch mono tape machine... various gain settings.
Cass1 = Hitachi D-E7 Cassette deck with Dolby C on...
Cass2 = Hitachi D-E7 Cassette deck with Dolby C on... different gain (more saturation).
Fat1 = UBK Fatso... subtle saturation
Fat2 = UBK Fatso... not-so subtle saturation
Fat3 = UBK Fatso... all the way to 11 !
X = Extra processing. Things like enveloped filters and extra EQ
ST = Stereo
R = For use in Round Robin Layering.
V= For use in Velocity Layering

Example:
DSM1_BD_A_Fat1_R1.wav
DSM1 Bass Drum, recorded through the Fatso with subtle saturation, for use in
Round Robin Layering.
