Familiarisation Training for Amsafe Quickzip Nets

The purpose of this training material is to familiarise personnel with the

technical nomenclature used in Inspection Task Card for Amsafe Quick
Zip Net and also enable them to judge whether the condition affecting
the nets makes them airworthy or not.
Material Terminology
1.
2.
3.
4.

Yarns / Fibres : Filaments of base material used in the manufacture of strands.

Strands : Multiple yarns/fibres formed into one continuous length.
Braid : Interwoven strands forming a braided cord
Cord/Cordage : A length of braid used in the construction of the net or for
lashing line.

Component Terminology
1.
Metalwork : Metalwork refers to tensioner hooks or attachment fittings.
2. Attachment fittings : Metal fittings located at the base of the net that attach
the net to the pallet. Fittings are either Double Stud or Double Stud with Ring or
Single Stud types.
3. Double Stud Floor fitting : Industry standard component designed to interface
with pallet edge track. Fittings are permanently attached to the net.

Double Stud Fitting

4. Double Stud with Ring floor fitting : Double stud fitting with a welded steel
ring attached through the hole. Fittings are permanently attached to the net.

D stud fitting with ring

5. Single Stud floor fitting : Industry standard component designed to interface
with pallet edge track. Fittings are permanently attached to the net.

Single Stud floor fitting

6. Tensioner Hooks : Flat metal hooks used to tension the net.

Tensioner Hooks

7. Pallet Edge Track : A standard extruded channel with a machined profile

found at the outer edges of the aircraft pallet. Channel is designed as a structural
interface between the pallet and the net attachment fittings.

Pallet Edge Track

8. Border : Refers to the high strength cord running at the edge of each net
panel. Floor fittings are attached to this cord.
9. Border Cord

Floor fitting are attached to this cord

10. Knotless Intersection

Joining method used to form an intersection within the net by intersecting two
separate cords

11.Lashing Line
Single cord used to close and tension each corner of

pallet net by interweaving the cord through the net

meshes on either side of the corner

12. Mesh Leg

One side/cord in the net mesh.

13. Splice Back
Joint used to terminate cords within the net. The joint is formed by folding the
cord back on itself and passing the terminated end through the hollow core of the
cord.

14. Temporary Strap

Separate item that can be used to temporarily bridge damaged parts of a net to
make it serviceable for limited use prior to repair. The strap can only be used
temporarily for certain types and levels of damage and has specific restrictions
and limitations.

15. Identification Plates

(TSO Tags)
Metal or plastic unit that attaches the identification label (TSO Label) to the net.
(Plate is shown below with Identification Label attached)

16. Identification Label

(TSO Label)

Printed self-adhesive label located on the identification

plate.
17.Permanent Fixture Label

Printed Labels used to indicate where attachment fittings are permanently

attached to the pallet.

Damage Limitation Label

Printed labels used to provide a brief indication of allowable net damage in
service

Damage Terminology
Slight Abrasion
Breaking of a small amount of the outer most surface yarns. The visual
appearance of these protruding fibres gives a slightly fluffy appearance

Snagging

When one or more yarns or strands are pulled away from the cord structure
forming a loop.

PartiallySevered Cords

Cords that have severed strands within the braided construction. Will cause
strength loss.

The Product Service life is 3 years

It is recommended that the nets are periodically inspected and assessed for
serviceability before every use,.
It is often difficult for operators to track and monitor when nets enter service, thus
the recommended 3 year life of the net is set from the only authenticated datethe date of manufacturer that can be found within the serial number stated on the
identification label.
The Additional Information Label helps operators monitor the recommended 3
year service life by recording when the net was taken out of storage and first
entered service. This allows operators to store nets for a period of time without
affecting recommended service life.

CLEANING
The net assembly or components may be washed if required in clean water and
washed parts should be completely dry before return to use.
