ge the status quo. From these movements come future leaders.(Fifthly), there is
a revival of women's culture, literature etc... Finally, strength differences no
longer have the same social, political and economic significance as they previo
usly did... The future belongs to those with intellect rather than physical stre
ngth, and intellect is not the preserve of one sex or the other." (p. 171-2)@b
6.The rest of that section with the quotations from Towsey should read like this
:@b
Towsey also mentions another factor which will bring about changes in the collec
tive psychology and affect the gender dialectic. "The gender dialectic has an in
ternal tendency to arrive at an equilibrium ... the polarization of the dialecti
c will gradually become less and the male and female collective psychologies wil
l gradually converge. This in turn implies that the differences between individu
al male and female psychologies will diminish. There is some hint of this in (Th
e Awakening of Women Part 3, Section 1, page 267) where Sarkar implies that adva
nces in reproductive technology will make sexual reproduction obsolete, and the
reproductive capacity of the human body will become extinct. Such changes in phy
sical structure would certainly have their psychological parallel. In this situa
tion both social consciousness and social structures (family, education, welfare
structures) will be quite different from anything we understand today." (The Et
ernal Dance of Macrocosm p. 173)@b
In Sarkar's eyes, social transformation, however, will not be complete without t
he universal spiritual element being accepted by human beings as the basis of a
ll life. @b
Regarding the nature of future society, Sarkar poses co-ordinated co-operation a
s the social ideal for relations between the sexes. @b
"Are women like cattle, or sacks of cloth that people give as gifts at the time
of marriage? Are they slaves to be sold to others? As long as women lacked coura
ge or intellect, they tolerated these things -- but what a great humiliation! To
submit them to such indignities is far worse than to whip them publicly on the
road. Are women simply like bundles of cloth to be sent to the washerman's house
? Women must not be suppressed, and there should not be domination of males in t
he society. Society should have a cooperative leadership, not a subordinated lea
dership; there should be a coordinated, cooperative leadership, leadership betwe
en males and females." 2 January 1986, Calcutta @b
from "Renaissance in All the Strata of Life" A Few Problems Solved Part 7 @b
-- The Awakening of Women p.138@b
Here again Towsey makes some insightful comments. "In terms of social structures
and institutions, co-ordinated co-operation between the sexes means that there
must be three kinds of 'spaces' in society. For the proper expression of both ge
nder psychologies a future healthy society will require both 'women only space'
and 'men only space'. These will be necessary so that both poles of the dialecti
c can develop their respective visions for society with clarity and self-confide
nce. However, the highest flowering of human potential will be achieved in the
third 'space' where the female and male visions meet. This third space is that o
f co-ordinated co-operation. It is in this space that the differences between th
e sexes acquire a meaning and purpose beyond the merely biological. It is in thi
s space that all the human virtues clash and cohere to produce a universal human
society. It is in this space that society advances with greatest speed towards
its ideal of social equality and collective welfare." (p175-176)@b
7. The definition of "an operation... etc" is taken from Proutist Economics unde
r the major heading of Cooperatives and a sub-heading of Coordinated co-operatio
n(as per the reference given in the ZyIndex listing of BABA's books). I don't ha
v a copy of PE with me so I cannot look up the exact chapter, page number, etc.@

8. The quotation starting "In every field of social life...." is the paragraph f
ollowing the above definition from the same section with the major heading of Co
operatives in Proutist Economics.
