to 21/2 Tons
Features/Benefits
Technology and components
The high-efficiency one, two, or threerow heat exchanger has mechanically
expanded copper tubes with continuous aluminum fins. The coil connections are made of brass. The upper coil
has an air purge port, and the lower
coil has a drainage port.

UNIT SIZES 016,020
Diffusers
Four-way air distribution gives individual comfort. For localized control,
each diffuser may be adjusted or
even shut down completely. The special design of the diffusers ensure
rapid blending of the supply and
room air. Conditioned air is directed
along the ceiling, then evenly distributed throughout the room. Return air
enters the cassette unit through a
large grille. It is then cleaned by an
easily removable, washable synthetic
filter.
Controls
Three different thermostats are available, suitable for installation on a
wall. The solid-state electronic thermostat is available in programmable
flat stat, Slimline Stat and a 5-1-1
programmable style.

Accessories
A two-position, motorized three-way
valve accessory package is available.
The package includes the preassembled tubing, valve, fittings, and valve
condensate drip pan.
A power vent accessory is also available for introduction of outside fresh
air, when required.
Minimum installation
clearance
The unit is designed to fit standard
ceiling tiles. Its low-profile size
(115/8 in.) makes it ideal for building
refurbishment projects where ceiling
heights are limited. The diffuser only
protrudes 1 inch into the room.

Selection procedure
I Determine job requirements.
Given:
Room Sensible Cooling Load . . . . . . .10,000 Btuh
Room Total Cooling Load . . . . . . . . .13,000 Btuh
Entering-Air Temperature . . . . . 67 F wb, 80 F db
Entering Water Temperature . . . . . . . . . . . . .45 F
Temperature Rise . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .10 F
External Static Pressure . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0 in. wg
Nominal Air Delivery . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 400 cfm
II II Determine unit size and nominal cfm.
For an initial selection, choose a unit size that will
provide the required airflow (cfm). Refer to the ARI
Capacities table on page 3. Enter the Physical Data
table on page 3. At high speed, a 42WKN008 unit
will provide 420 cfm.
III III Determine cooling capacity.
Enter cooling capacity table for 42WKN008 on
page 7. Locate required entering dry bulb (edb) and
entering wet bulb (ewb) conditions. Locate the entering water temperature required. Under Total Heat
(TH) column, a 42WKN008 unit at an entering-air
temperature of 67 F wb and 80 F dry bulb, an entering water temperature of 45 F, and a water temperature rise of 10 F, will provide 13,282 Btuh.
IV IV Determine sensible heat.
In cooling capacity table for 42WKN008, locate the
sensible heat (SH) column and find that the
42WKN008 at the required conditions will provide
10,174 Btuh of sensible heat at a water temperature rise of 10 F. The 42WKN008 will satisfy the
job requirements.
If additional SH were required, a larger unit or a
lower entering water temperature would be needed.

Controls
Sequence of operation
Two-pipe systems A 24-v electromechanical relay
printed circuit board (PCB) controls unit operation through
the wall-mounted 24-v solid-state thermostat. When a call
for cooling is initiated by the thermostat, the 24-v signal is
completed between R and Y1. This closes the main control
relay CR1. At the same time, Y1 energizes the pump delay
relay (PDR). The PDR starts the condensate pump. It
allows the condensate pump to run a few seconds after the
relay is deenergized. When CR/Y1 is energized, the water
service valve (WSV1) at 230 v is energized through the
contactor valve (CV1). The WSV is connected between terminal 14 of CR1 and V1 of terminal block 3 (TB3).
14
Four-pipe systems Four-pipe systems operate similarly to 2-pipe systems with the exception that chilled water
and hot water may be sequenced, through two separate
water coils, by means of auto-changeover in the accessory
thermostat. The Carrier duct-free systems (DFS) thermostat will not allow simultaneous operation of chilled and hot
water.
