Unreal: The Raven

It is true that new technologies have made the world a smaller place and approach people;
even if we are far away we can meet and work with people all over the world. For example,
with this magazine, we have contributors form Mexico, Peru and France, but this review
isnt about our story, we are going to present you a multinational musical project between
Argentina, Germany, Spain and New Zeland, they are on stage since 2012 but now they
release their first EP through the label Power Prog.
Unreals style isnt easy to classify, their music has different influences from Gothic,
Symphonic and Power Metal with Neoclassical and Progressive ingredients. Thats how
inspiration for the next review comes from fantasy and terror literature: Edgar Allan Poe
and Guy de Maupassant.
To begin with, The Raven starts with The Visitor, a song that sounds cinematic with
symphonic, dark and dramatic elements which lead our imagination to feel in a cinema
waiting for Vincent Price appears on stage. Immediately we enter to Those Ravens Eyes
with the powerful voice of Cas, with an unusual style going through the operatic sound to
deep grunts. The song booms our speakers thanks to its rhythmic base with an orchestral
background and a soft but enigmatic chorus. When the songs seems to have ended we
listen dissonant sounds which envelopes the end with a mysterious halo.
That sensation prevails in the beginning of The Presence (Accoustic Version) in which we
listen a brighter sound thanks to the feminine voice of J. Ciminelli. Even though the song is
mostly subtle, the shadow of mystery which weve been listening is upon it. After a short
crescendo the song has an unexpected and abrupt ending.
The Horla shows a completely change because its soft and inflated rhythm, leaving behind
the cinematic and dark sensation, but it is well accompanied by the orchestral background
while Cas delight us with his particular vocal style, lyric in almost the entire song.
In the middle we found Beyond These Walls, a cover from the legendary King Diamond. It
is a special version in which we could continue listening the vocalist versatility. The guitar
solos are elements we found a few times, all along the album they are discreet but in this
particular track they have a blast. It really is an excellent tribute for King Diamond legacy.
The Assignation is a powerful song in which we found a sensational guitar solo, an
impeccable instrumentation is added to the sensitive vocal interpretation. After the abrupt
ending of The Assignation, we return to listen to the orchestra and the cinematic sounds
with The Pit and The Pendulum, a song with extravagant changes, it produces different
and intense sensations.

We come back with another version for The Presence now with the interpretation of Cas
and Unreal complete crew, we left behind the softness and even the sweetness of the
acoustic version, replaced by a magnificent instrumentation, riffs and interpretation. Almost
in the end, it becomes more dynamic until it reaches a point of total peace.
In the end we found a reprise for These Ravens Eyes, a short versin, as an epilogue for
this production.
After listening this album I got the sensation that somehow I was immersed in an intense
soundtrack, filled with mystery and darkness because of the composition, interpretation
and production, completely faultless. I may say the goals of the band are achieved, and
generate in the people who listen them great expectations for their next productions.
