Yes, because Report Design is part of the IT scenario "Enterprise Reporting, Query, and Analysis" the usage types BI
Java & Portal are required. For a full overview on all usage types required for the scenario, please refer to the Master
Guide (found in http://service.sap.com/instguidesnw2004s - SMP login required).
BI Java is mandatory for all customers who wish to use new features of BEx Web available with SAP NetWeaver 7.0
(2004s). BI Java includes the EP and AS JAVA usage types.

How can I display a BEx Report?
BEx Reports can be launched to the Web directly from the BEx Report Designer.
BEx Reports can be integrated into BEx Web Applications using a new Web item, the Web item Report. In this way,
BEx Reports can be combined with Web items for analytical purposes.

No, there is no limitation.

No. The creation of formulas occurs in the BEx Query Designer. This is also true for restricted key figures. Formula
creation is not planned for the Report Designer.

Yes, variables created in the query the report is based on will be used within the report. Variables will be created in
the BEx Query Designer.

Is there the possibility to select variable/parameter values for BEx Reports from a dropdown list?
If you want to select filter values from a drop down box, create a Web template that contains the Report (in a Report
Item) and item from the drop down box and put data from the same data provider behind it.

Can BEx Reports, once displayed on the Web, be converted to Excel, not just PDF (to allow the users to

BEx Reports can be exported from within a BEx Web Application that contains, for example, a button or hyperlink
using the Web command "Export".
The export to MS Excel is possible for any Web Template, but after the export, the BEx connection is lost; for
example, a further navigation within the data is not possible.

Can I create a common template that can be used by multiple BEx Reports with the BEx Report
Designer?
This is not possible at the moment, but planned. All queries that should be used for one template must have the
same structure (the same number of characteristics/key figures).

How are hierarchies handled by the BEx Reports (are they flattened)?
Hierarchies on rows can be displayed, expanded/collapsed, and formatted individually. They will not be flattened
and there is no rebuilding needed for hierarchies.

Is it possible to drill down upon a report row to get to it's detail?

Because BEx Reports are optimized for presentation and printing, the drill down cannot be changed (you can set
filter values only). If you want to navigate within the data on the Web, use the BEx Web Analyzer or create a Web
Application using a Web item analysis.

Is it possible to concatenate/manipulate multiple field values and display in a single cell?
Yes. There is no one to one relationship between a cell and its original value.

Can a cell grow or not by choice, as per the length of the value returned?
No, this must be adjusted manually in the BEx Report Designer - there, the width of each cell will be defined. After
the execution of the Report on the Web, the width of each cell is fixed.

Yes. You can create rules for conditional formatting for characteristic values.

data overflows onto multiple pages?
Yes. Row Patterns, for example for column headers, can be re-displayed on each page.

Yes. A BEx Report can be broadcast directly from the BEx Report Designer (using the BEx Broadcaster), or broadcast

It is possible to save the printing settings of a report in the Report Designer?
This is not needed as the Report Designer contains most settings already like page layout, margin, etc. However, in
the Report Default Template "0REPORT_DEFAULT_TEMPLATE" the user can add parameters to the existing printcommand button. The print dialog is explicitly not triggered here, as print settings of the user might not be
consistent with the setting of the Report Designer.
