Cycling support/assistance - The main and overall aim of this role is to assist the project
coordinators to train and impart cycle skills to all riders and group members, whether
complete beginners or improvers.
This includes

lifting bikes and equipment in and out of storage
ability to cycle around the athletics track and accompany trainee riders
ability to join in short and longer community bike rides, on cycle pathways and local roads

Cooking Tutor of Basic Home Cookery We are looking for someone who has cooking
skills and an ability to teach others these skills. The need is to pass on a love of cooking and
the ability to feed a family rather than perfect looking cakes etc. Some young people have
never had cooking opportunities at school and have no experience to build on. We would like
our mums to be able to see something in the supermarket and have an idea of how it can be
turned into a meal. The ideal would be basic cooking of meat/pulses and vegetables.
Teaching would probably be to a group of four at a time.
PEER PRODUCTIONS
Fundraiser (Corporate Sponsorship) We are actively seeking a volunteer to lead us in
corporate fundraising. We are keen to find someone with experience of this arena. See

PYRFORD GUIDE AND SCOUT PARENTS ASSOCIATION (PGSPA)

Unit Helper Brownies/Guides - Do you have 1.5 hours per week to give to support the
development of young girls and women in the community? Girlguiding the countrys leading
charity for girls and young women is looking for local volunteers to help at their Brownie (710) or Guide (10-15) on a Monday in St Johns, Woking. No experience needed just an
enthusiasm and desire to get involved in supporting and taking part in fun activities with the
girls in the units.
BRIGITTE TRUST (THE)
Cancer Home Support Officer - When someone is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness
such as cancer or MND a Brigitte Trust volunteer provides emotional and practical help to
client and carer. We provide full training and on going support, and ask for a commitment of

Organising indoor and outdoor music & arts events - organises performance events,
workshops and mentoring aimed at developing local, original music and arts in Woking. We
need volunteers to support all aspects of these activities. Volunteers can gain insight and
experience in many aspects related to staging small performances and larger music events,
including fundraising, event conception and promotion, technical matters such as sound and
lighting, health and safety aspects, front-of-house activities, event catering, etc.

Send Family Link is a registered charity providing support services for families visiting
women in custody at HMP Send, with a particular focus on children with a mother in prison.
We provide supervised play activities for children during prison visits, advice and information
for families, and refreshments. We also run special Family Days for mothers in prison to
spend quality time with their children.

activities for children of all ages in the Visits Hall at HMP Send, a women's prison.

The Goldsworth Park Community Association (GPCA) represents the interests and promotes
the benefit of the residents of Goldsworth Park, all of whom are automatically members of
the Association.
Advertising Sales person - The Goldsworth Park Community (GPCA) publishes a
magazine- Goldsworth News - which is delivered free to nearly 5000 homes and business.
The printing is paid by advertising.
The GPCA needs someone to contact local business, many of whom regularly advertise
already, and to identify new businesses to contact and "sell" Advertising space. Details of all
existing advertisers and a new leads will be provided.
WOKING LIONS CLUB
New members - Prepared to help with both fund raising events and distribution when
required. Club Members main duty is to help those less fortunate than ourselves in our local
Community. We aim to help individuals and larger bodies eg Community Hospital; Shop
mobility; Youth through giving Hi Viz jackets to over 740 young school children; hampers at
Christmas to the needy; Christmas Day Meal with entertainment for lonely people;
Project Wenceslas raising funds to help those in fuel poverty with and through the CAB;
Hospice; LinkAble; Air Ambulance and many others. We meet on the first and third Tuesday

Connect is a charity that works with people who have aphasia. Aphasia is a communication
disability which usually occurs after stroke or brain injury.
Befriending Scheme Supporter - To accompany a befriender on their first visit to someone
with aphasia.To attend the befriender support meetings (every 6-8 weeks).
To provide communication support to people with aphasia, where required, to enable them to
participate fully.To help evaluate the scheme.
RELATE WEST SURREY
Relate West Surrey offers relationship counselling support to individuals, couples, families
and young persons (age 11-25).
Treasurer - Relate West Surrey is seeking a Treasurer/Trustee who has a finance
background to sit on its Board as Treasurer. The time involvement is approximately 4-6
hours per month with Board meetings being bimonthly for approximately 2 hours.
Woking Youth Centre
Woking Youth Centre is in a predominantly Muslim population. The Youth Centre aims, to
provide young people between the ages of 11 to 19 years old with a safe environment in

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

Poppy Appeal Volunteers needed to help the Poppy Appeal Organiser for Woking and
the surrounding area to ensure vital funds for our Service men and women continue
to be raised. Can you or a team of friends help keep the Appeal going for 2015 ?
The role is fun, worthwhile and above all rewardingas the money you help raise is
used for helping people like Peter who was there for his country. When we heard
Peter had been the victim of a mine blast in Helmand Province leaving him with
severe burns, both legs amputated and unable to come to terms with the loss of his
comrade, we were there for him. The RBL were proud to help him in any way we could
so that this young man could get on with living his life as independently as possible.
Veterans like Peter will continue to need the Legions help and support for many years
to come. By taking on the role of Poppy volunteer you will help to ensure that we are
here for them all.
What are they looking for?
Poppy volunteers don't need a military connection, they just need to be organised,
and enjoy interacting with others. The role involves distributing poppy boxes, liaising
with local businesses, coordinating and recruiting collectors, recording funds etc. It is
a big commitment, but we can tailor the size of your area of responsibility to suit your
time and abilities.
Practical Considerations
You will be focusing most of your efforts on the appeal between October and
November. Training is provided and expenses are reimbursable.
About British Legion WAVS
The Royal British Legion was formed on 15 May 1921 bringing together four National
Organisations of ex-Service men that had established themselves after the Great War
of 1914-1918. The main purpose of the Legion was straightforward: to care for those
who had suffered as a result of service in the Armed Forces in the Great War, whether
through their own service or through that of a husband, father or son. The suffering
took many forms: the effect of a war wound on a man's ability to earn a living and
support his family; or a war widow's struggle to give her children an education.
But even those who had come through the war relatively unscathed struggled with
employment. As a result of the war, Britain's economy plummeted and in 1921 there
were 2 million unemployed. Over six million men had served in the war - 725,000
never returned. Of those who came back, 1.75 million had suffered some kind of
disability and half of these were permanently disabled. To this figure then had to be
added those who depended on those who had gone to war - the wives and children,
widows and orphans as well as the parents who had lost sons in the war, on whom
they were often financially dependent.
The situation so moved Lance Bombadier Tom Lister, a Lancastrian, that he decided
that if the Government was either unable or unwilling to do anything to improve the
lives of ex-Service men, he would do something about it himself. This eventually led
to the formation of The Royal British Legion.
When the Legion's leaders looked around them in 1921, not only did they see a
gigantic task in front of them looking after those who had suffered in the recent war,
they also sought to prevent further sacrifice by reminding the nation of the human
cost of war and to work actively for peace.
By the time of the Legion's formation in 1921, the tradition of an annual Two Minute
Silence in memory of the dead had been established. The first ever Poppy Appeal was
held that year with the first Poppy Day on 11 November 1921.

We were granted "Royal" status in 1971, and extended our membership to serving
members of Her Majesty's Forces, as well as ex-Service personnel, in 1981. Now,
anyone can become a member of The Royal British Legion. We welcome men and
women of all ages, whether they have served in the Armed Forces or not.

BMW PGA Championship Volunteer

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK
charity dedicated to improving the
quality of life and chances of survival
for the seven young people aged between 13 and 24 diagnosed with cancer every day.
We are excited to be the Official Charity Partner of the BMW PGA Championship at the
famous Wentworth Club in Surrey, where many of the worlds leading golfers tackle the
famous West Course to battle for The European Tours flagship title.
We need volunteers to help us throughout the week at the event. By giving just half a day
you get free entry to the tournament with some food and beverage vouchers to enjoy the
rest of the day. You can volunteer for as many half days as you like, the more the better! The
charity partnership is expected to raise over 70,000 to support young people with cancer,
but we can only do that with your help and support.
Dates: Tuesday 19th May Sunday 24th May 2015
Time Commitment: At least one day of volunteering during the week (various shifts
available)

A Z Volunteering Opportunities
1st BYFLEET SCOUT GROUP
Scout Leader or Non uniformed Helper: We are a Scout group who have grown to some
90 boys and girls, a few with special needs, whose ages range from 6 to 15 years. We offer
a full range of activities suitable for the relevant ages programmed to challenge each child.
We are looking for volunteers to join our successful and friendly team, who offer a range of
outdoor and indoor activities encouraging children to stimulate and challenge themselves
both physically and mentally.
1st HORSELL SCOUTS
Youth Leader or Unit Helper: Scouting is an Adventure, and how people volunteer is up to
them. Occasional helpers (like the Duchess of Cambridge), section leaders, executive
members, all do different things. The happy Horsell Scout community always needs new
blood, some sections are light on manpower and we do need help. Meetings are throughout
weekday evenings, and there are many flexible opportunities to help.
2nd OLD BYFLEET BROWNIES
Guider/Unit Helper (WOK518): Assistant Guider and Unit Helper needed to assist the
guider in charge with the Brownies 7-10yrs. Your role would be to enable the Brownies to
participate in the activities on offer during the meeting and learn about the ethos of guiding
and why it is special. Brownies Mondays 5.30-7.30pm
4x4 RESPONSE SURREY
Surrey 4x4 Response is an organisation formed of 4x4 owners who volunteer their time and
use of their own personal vehicles to assist Britain's front line emergency services in adverse
weather conditions. National 4x4 Response Network and primarily support Surrey, South
West London and South London, however, as with all of the county 4x4 response teams, we
tend to go where we are needed and assist our neighbouring counties.
4x4 Support Members: Support Members assist Responders whilst on callouts and are
covered by the liability insurance, the only difference between a Support Member and a
Responder is they do not have to pass an assessment as they would not undertake any
driving duties. Support Members can choose to be more actively involved in call outs, for
example by crewing Operational Members' vehicles. They can also assist in manning
phones etc.
4x4 Responders: The key aim of the organisation is to bring together like-minded people
who want to use their vehicles, their time and their expertise to support the community in
times of need. In order to present a semi-professional service and because of health &
safety requirements all 4x4 Responders who use their vehicles for the group must pass a
basic assessment involving familiarization of their 4WD vehicle, basic 4WD knowledge (what
you don't know we can fill the gaps on) their driving skills (off-road/snow/ice), their ability to
navigate (you cant help if you cant get there) and their equipment within the vehicle (we
have some basic/cheap suggestions which can make all the difference)
8th WOKING SCOUT GROUP
Scout Leader and an Assistant Scout Leader: Scout troops cover a wide variety of
activities taking into account the boys/girls needs and interests including badge work,
camping and outdoor activities etc. They are also looking for help with the Beavers and
Cubs all of which take place on a Tuesday evening and the ages range from 6 to 14 years.
ACTIONAID
Collections Coordinator aimed at fighting poverty and injustice worldwide - ActionAid is
looking for dynamic volunteers to coordinate local business collections in their surrounding
villages.

ACTIVENTURE
Activenture runs residential programmes for young people aged 8 18 years who are
disabled or have special needs. Typical activities include: archery, canoeing, zip wire,
abseiling, obstacle courses, swimming, craft sessions, days out, live bands, karaoke and
disco. See Residential Section for more information.
ADULT & COMMUNITY LEARNING
Provides a positive, enjoyable learning experience for all learners and helps them obtain the
knowledge and experience they need to get the most out of everyday life. The Supported
Learning Team welcomes learners with additional needs and disabilities, and those people
whose first language is not English.
Supported Learning Volunteer - supported Learning Volunteers are needed to assist the
tutor in the teaching of an adult learning course providing an effective programme of further
education for adults who need additional support. Classes are generally arts & crafts,
cookery, IT, leisure etc. and are usually run Monday to Friday although some courses are
held at weekends. Volunteers may work with individuals or groups of people. Volunteers
directly help the learner to understand the content of the lesson in a supportive way, which
allows the learner to gain maximum learning possible from each lesson.Volunteers will work
under the guidance of the tutors. There is no specific training as a requirement of this role.
Training is offered throughout the year on an individual basis.
AGE CONCERN WOKING
The work of Age Concern Woking could not happen without the group of dedicated
volunteers of all ages who provide care and opportunities for older people who are involved
in every aspect of Age Concern's work.
Trustee and Honorary Treasurer.
Ensure that proper financial records are maintained. Overseeing and presenting budgets,
accounts and financial statements. The preparation and presentation of financial reports to
the board. Being assured that the financial resources meet the Charitys present and future
needs. Ensuring that there are appropriate reserves and investment policies in place.
Advising on the financial implications of potential strategic plans.
Ensuring equipment and assets are adequately maintained and insured.
Ensuring the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory
bodies. Arranging the independent examination of the annual accounts and liaising with the
independent examiner as to any implementation of recommendations. Formal presentation
of the accounts at the AGM. Annual disclosures to the Charity Commission and Companies
House. Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.
Contributing to the fundraising strategy and associated applications.
Sitting on appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary panels as required.
Befrienders who can spare an hour or so each week, are kind and patient and have
empathy with older people. All necessary training will be given. You will need good
communication skills, an understanding of confidentiality, a sense of humour, an
understanding of the needs of older people, sensitivity and reliability.
Volunteer Friend - Become a friend to an older, vulnerable person. Commit to approx 1
hour each week. Make a cup of tea, have a chat, give support. Keep in touch with Age
Concern to report if anything seems wrong. Locations within the Borough of Woking.
AGE UK SURREY
Minibus Driver - To be an occasional minibus driver for groups of older people in the
Woking area allowing them to go on short one day outings and walks - possibly only 3 - 4
times a year.
ALZHEIMER'S SOCIETY Surrey
Provide General information on Alzheimers Disease and other dementia and on the services,
benefits, practical aids and other resources available for carers and people with dementia
from health and social services and other voluntary organisations. Provide opportunities for
social contact and mutual support through our day care service, carers group and outreach
work. Actively work in the community to increase public awareness.

The Society provides dementia care, a day centre, outreach and advocacy, carer support,
helpline, drop-in centre and advice and information.
Administration Support Haslemere: Providing support with general office duties and
helping with volunteer/fundraising administration. We hope that you would be able to offer a
couple of hours each week and provide some continuity over a number of months
Fundraisers, Surrey: This community fundraising opportunity available in all parts of Surrey
involves developing and maintaining an agreed number of collection boxes in your local
area, and ensuring regular emptying of boxes, banking of money and keeping records of
monies received.
Fundraising Group Surrey: In order to expand the work of the Society, so that even more
people with dementia and their carers can be helped and supported, we need to raise funds.
By joining the group and assisting with its fundraising activities, you will be making a
valuable contribution towards achieving this aim. This role will involve assisting the
Community Fundraiser with fundraising activities: contributing ideas, assisting at events,
devising new ways to generate income, administration and organising specific events (if you
are willing to do so).
Fundraising: In Memorium Giving - Surrey: This new community fundraising opportunity
available in all parts of Surrey involves raising awareness of the work of the Society and the
In Memoriam giving opportunity with bereaved families and friends and local funeral
directors. You will be visiting local funeral directors to introduce the work of the Society and
to gain agreement to distribute and display in memoriam leaflets and envelopes.
Fundraising: Memory Walks Surrey (Working from Home.): Memory Walk is the
Society's flagship fundraising event with walks taking place throughout September. All
money raised is used to support services for people with dementia and their families and
also raises awareness of dementia and the Society's work in the community. This role is
essential to support the Community Fundraiser in planning, organising, delivering and
evaluating flagship Memory Walks. The role is flexible and the specific commitment will be
agreed between you and the Community Fundraiser. As this is a time limited (annual)
Opportunity ,it will require an increased time commitment in the run up to the event.
Planning starts in April, with an increased level of activity in September.
Support Service Bletchingley - This role will involve supporting staff in the Day Centre by
chatting and engaging with people with dementia, helping with activities and refreshments
and ensuring that clients feel comfortable.
We hope that you will be able to offer a few hours each week and provide some continuity
over a number of months.
Support Service Supper Club: Haslemere - This role will involve assisting staff and
helping with refreshments, receiving and chatting to visitors at our Supper Club for people
living with dementia and their families. The supper club takes place on the first Wednesday
of each month between 6 and 8 pm.
Volunteer Co-ordinator Haslemere This role will involve assisting with the recruitment,
selection and placement of volunteers and ensuring they receive adequate induction and
support. This role helps to ensure that we have the people we need to raise money, improve
awareness, help behind the scenes and provide services to anyone living with dementia and
those who care for them. This role will require approximately 1-2 hours per week but would
be flexible.
ARCH (Art Research Creativity Health)
ARCH is a registered charity that is dedicated to helping performers protect their
occupational health and involving them in the entertainment of people with ill-health or
physical disabilities.
Events Organisers: to help in all aspects of organising concerts in local hospitals and
hospices. Time flexible, - 1 day per week, expenses paid and training given.
BABCOCK 4S
School Governor: (WOK781): Today's schools are increasingly independent, placing
heavier responsibility on the governing body for budgeting, standard-setting and strategic
decision making. The Governor's role is to be a "critical friend" to the Head Teacher, helping
with overall management. Meetings are usually held in the evenings and only during term
time.

BASINGSTOKE CANAL AUTHORITY

The Basingstoke Canal can be found in Southern England between the village of Greywell in
Hampshire and Woodham in Surrey. It was built between 1788 and 1794 and is 32 miles
long with 29 locks. After many years of restoration it's now fully navigable, and connects to
the River Wey Navigation, which in turn joins the River Thames. Approximately half of the
canal is owned by Hampshire County Council and the other half by Surrey County Council.
The "Basingstoke Canal Authority" (part of Hampshire County Council's "Countryside
Service") undertakes the management of the whole canal.
Canal Maintenance Activities Volunteer: The Basingstoke Canal Authority is looking for
members of the community to volunteer some of their spare time to assist the Canal
Rangers with general light maintenance tasks. Ranger led volunteer days will run every
Tuesday between 10am and 4pm. They will take place across all areas of the Basingstoke
Canal on rotation in both the Surrey and Hampshire sections and will include tasks such as
vegetation management, painting, clearing litter and controlling invasive plant species. This
is your opportunity to get involved in your local community and make a real difference to the
local environment, meet new people, be active, learn new skills and enjoy a day in beautiful
surroundings.
BRIDGE PROJECT (THE)
Administrator - This is a voluntary position that would suit someone wanting to share their
office administration skills and experience. This role will interest someone that likes to be in
a creative environment, but also wishes to utilise their business experience. An organised
and motivated individual who is good in a team but also using their own initiative. Knowledge
or interest in recovery from alcoholism is desirable. Travel expenses paid

Cancer Home Support Officer - When someone is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness
such as cancer or MND a Brigitte Trust volunteer provides emotional and practical help to
client and carer. We provide full training and on going support, and ask for a commitment of
four hours each week plus monthly supervision. Free training courses run several times a
year - the twelve sessions are run over a period of one month. After training volunteers are
supported as they visit families, offering respite for carers and the opportunity to share some
of many feelings a serious diagnosis brings. Transport and shopping as well as other
practical help is also offered. Volunteers also offer bereavement support and are fully
supported in the peer group supervision led by a professional trainer. Training course coming

Breathe Easy Woking is a friendly, locally run support group for people with lung conditions
who meet once a month for informative talks about living with their lung conditions or other
local interests. They also meet up socially outside of the group for meals and outings
throughout the year.
Group Support Volunteer: to help in the running of the group. This post would suit a
candidate who is approachable, organised, resourceful, willing to get 'stuck in' and who can
show empathy for people with a lung condition.

Mobility Aids Volunteer - The British Red Cross provides valuable short-term support to

wheelchair or just need help coping around the house. Our volunteer-led Mobility Aids
Service provides donaion-based wheelchair hire and short-term loans of equipment in
almost 1,000 outlets in the UK, helping tens of thousands of people every year.
A medical loan volunteer is on hand to deal with each request and make it possible for
people to return to their own hoomes after illness or surgery by loaning them e.g.
wheelchairs, bath seats, back rests or walking frames. The service promotes independence
and can also help people go on holiday whith friends or family.

BROOKLANDS MUSEUM
Stewards at Brooklands - to staff all the exhibition areas within the Museum, interacting
with visitors, adding value to the visitor experience by offering information about the
Museum. This also includes the Brooklands Concorde Experience. Specifically the
Stewards role on Concorde will be hosting visitors through the aircraft with its exhibition
areas & audio visual facilities, its restored passenger cabin and flight deck etc.
Guide weekends - helping in hands on exhibition talking to/assisting visitors.
Guide schools - helping in interactive science exhibition during visits by school parties,
talking to schoolchildren. Also to look for volunteers willing to perform simple talks and
demonstrations to groups of children.
Activity Room Assistant - required helping children between the ages of 5 to 7 years to
build/construct models etc while they are waiting for their guide to take them for a ride on the
Penny Farthing. Volunteers should be good communicators with both children and their

Neighbourhood care scheme in Byfleet and West Byfleet designed to help the elderly and
disabled with shopping, visiting, emergency transport and odd jobs.
Drivers to provide transport for elderly neighbours to the shops, doctors etc. Byfleet Care
needs a volunteer to cover the mobile phone for 2 hours per fortnight.
Phone Cover Volunteer covering the mobile phone for 2 hours per fortnight. Taking calls
from elder neighbours needing taking to the shops, doctors etc. and allocating volunteer
drivers to the elderly person.
BYFLEET UNITED CHARITY
Relief of poverty in Byfleet and West Byfleet and Sheltered Housing Complex (Almshouse)
Trustee - Trustees are required to attend six meetings a year (during the day). The charity
is a grant making charity for people who live in the area of benefit (Byfleet and West Byfleet).
The charity also has a 24 unit, Almshouse (sheltered housing complex) in West Byfleet.
Trustees consider the applications and agree to grants and/or other benefits. Trustees also
oversee the management of the charity's land and investment assets.

BVFC is a youth football club, with a Clubhouse in Kings Head Lane, Byfleet.
Clubhouse Volunteer - We play our matches on a Sunday morning and need a volunteer to

Youth Club Leaders - A small community run youth group catering for young people age

to supervise young people, work in the tuck shop and help with administrative tasks on the
night. No experience is necessary as it is a learn on the job opportunity. This is a fulfilling

with enthusiastic and sometimes challenging young people. We take the young people on
trips and would also welcome help during these events.
Volunteer Youth Worker - The Club at Old Woking Community Centre needs an energetic
and enthusiastic person to help organise active games on Wednesday evenings with some
boisterous young people 9 - 17 years either in a large hall or outside if the weather is fine. In
wetter weather we have a pool table and table-tennis as well as a tuck shop for the young
people, and welcome anyone who can motivate the more energetic young people with fresh

special needs. We have a large range of materials and space as well as a kitchen for any

Youth Club Committee Member - The Club at Old Woking Community Centre needs a
literate and numerate person to join the management committee of the club. Do you have a

RSVP encourages people aged 50 and over who have time and energy to spare to become
involved as volunteers in their local community. RSVP is developing rapidly and involves
people from all backgrounds often working together in groups for support and friendship.
RSVP operates nationwide, is managed by volunteers as regional co-ordinators and
organisers and has 15,000 volunteers involved in educational, environmental, community
care and health projects.
Volunteer Organiser: RSVP encourages people aged 50 and over who have time and
energy to spare to become involved as volunteers in their local community. We operate
nationwide and have 15,000 volunteers involved in educational, environmental, community

Most of our projects and activities are developed and run by Volunteer Organisers - people
who are volunteers themselves and take on responsibility for leading projects.
Volunteer Organisers develop projects according to their skills & interests and the needs in
their local community - and they find other local people in their area to join them as

for housebound older people; drive people to medical appointments; clear up a local canal or
open space; set up knitting groups in residential homes - the list is endless!

CONNECT
Connect is a charity that works with people who have aphasia. Aphasia is a communication
disability which usually occurs after stroke or brain injury. Each person with aphasia
experiences it differently. Some people cannot speak at all; some people have just a few
words. Others can no longer read, write or use numbers.
Working in partnership with people with aphasia, Connect runs activities such as
conversation groups, informal drop-in sessions and befriending schemes.
Befriending Scheme Supporter - To accompany a befriender on their first visit to someone
with aphasia.To attend the befriender support meetings (every 6-8 weeks).
To provide communication support to people with aphasia, where required, to enable them to
participate fully.To help evaluate the scheme.
CONTACT
Contact the Elderly is the only national charity solely dedicated to tackling loneliness and
social isolation among older people. We organise monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for
small groups of older people (aged 75+) who live alone, and volunteers within their local
community, offering a regular and vital friendship link every month.
Group Coordinator - Coordinators ensure everything runs smoothly each month.
Coordinators are also often volunteer drivers too.
Coordinators organise the monthly group outings by liaising with the hosts and drivers so
that everyone is clear about the time, date and place. After the drivers have been called by
the coordinator, they in turn contact the older guest/s. Support and advice for the
coordinators is readily available from Head Office or the regional Development Officer, if
required. We ask all group coordinators for two references and we also take out a DBS
check before you start as a volunteer. The coordinators role is very important, but it only
takes a little extra regular commitment each month in addition to the outing. There are up to
15 older guests and volunteers relying on you! It is the coordinators job to be organised and
keep everyone informed.
Hosts - Contact the Elderly need local hostesses to give up one afternoon a year to prepare
tea for up to 12 elderly people and 5 drivers. The parties give elderly and isolated people
the chance to socialise over a cup of tea. You must have a downstairs toilet and reasonable
access for parking.
Host a Tea Party - Host provide a warm welcome and a simple afternoon tea lasting
between two to three hours for six to nine older guests and their drivers (three to five
drivers). Often host involve family and friends and two or three generations join in.

Requirements: The only essentials are a big tea pot, a downstairs toilet and easy access to
your house (e.g. not to many steps to your front door) Your commitment: We ask hosts to
commit to one or two tea parties a year - more if they want. The volunteer coordinator will

to expect.

a time commitment of around twice a month, all year round. We aim to have two facilitators
at every meeting to help the group run smoothly.
Key Activities
Guiding the group discussion so that people feel safe by timekeeping, for example
we have 30 minutes left and invite another to speak, or summarising and then
moving the conversation onto another topic, or ask a lightening question eg ask
everyone to share one thing that helps them relax or one tip for coping with life or
one helpful thing someone has said to them etc.
Noting anyone who looks uncomfortable and either check OK at the end or, if it is
possible in your group suggest that they are called during the week.

We offer support to carers who are looking after someone in their own home. This includes
carers of people with a serious illness, physical disabilities, learning disabilities, and certain
mental health problems from any age group.
Playworker for Saturday Club - To provide short breaks for families of children with special
needs. To assist the staff team in running a programme of interesting leisure activities for
such children. This will be appropriate to their needs and abilities. To enable children to
participate in the activities provided. To get to know the individual needs of the children
attending, and of the Team Leader. To establish a good working relationship with other
members of the staff team. To help plan and run the programme of activities.
To assist with the personal care needs of the children as per guidelines provided by the
Manager. To assist children with special needs as required. To assist in handling children
displaying challenging behaviour. Working as part of a team in a caring and patient manner.

Cruse Bereavement covers all aspects of bereavement care for all members of the public,
including children.

CYCLING PROJECTS SURREY WHEELS FOR ALL
To provide support to people with disabilities or differing needs to use adapted cycles/ bikes
in traffic free areas.
Surrey Wheels for All Cycle Support Volunteer - Main Tasks - This role involves cycling or
walking besides cyclists using adapted (trikes, tandems & hand cycles) as they go around
the running track at Sheerwater Recreation Ground. Occasionally it may involve longer rides.
You will either be helping individual cyclists or providing extra support to group rides such as
visiting Special Schools. Support needed by the cyclists varies from simply walking/riding
beside them to give company and reassurance, ensuring they go the right way and not too
fast, making sure they are safe.
DANCE WOKING (under Light Box)
Woking Dance Festival is a Bi-annual International Dance Festival.
In between festivals and leading up to it we run workshops with community groups and
schools, one off projects and performances and commission new work from professional
choreographers.
Chairperson - Dance Woking is seeking to recruit a new Chair who should be able to
demonstrate a real interest in the Arts and has held a senior position in the world of
business, the creative industries or public service.

Befriender Family and Vulnerable Adults A befrienders involvement is best every
other week: not over-involved in the person, but there as a help and guide. It is important to
help the person to engage with others in their community, to make friends through outside
activities, whether through the church or not. All befrienders do the same training which
takes place over three separate days.
Volunteer Driver Homelessness Prevention Service - Volunteer drivers will assist
housing specialist workers to provide transport for young people to get them to housing
appointments and/or emergency accommodation. The role requires some on-call and
occasional out of hours working. Own transport is required but expenses are paid.
Generic Family Support Volunteer - The volunteer will work with the young person and
family regarding parenting issues, help with budgets, etc. It is family focussed and the
volunteer will report back to a Social Worker - they are the eyes and ears of the family
situation. Some group work and some individual work will be required with a minimum of
2 hours per week, including some out of hours working on occasion.
Service Delivery Support Volunteer at Homelessness Prevention Service - To work
alongside the Homelessness Prevention Service administrator and panel co-ordinator to
assist in client facing activities and help co-ordinate the administration for the 4 supported
housing panel meetings that occur every 6 weeks. Required for 4 hours per week, during
office hours Monday to Friday
DISABILITY CHALLENGERS
Challengers play and youth schemes are where disabled children and young people feel that
they belong, are safe, have fun and make friends. At every Challengers play and youth
scheme there are lots of enthusiastic staff so that children and young people will always
have someone to play and be with. The wide range of activities that we provide means that
we can offer disabled young people something to do and somewhere to go from the age of 2
to 25.
Administration Fundraising: Childrens charity dedicated to providing play and leisure
opportunities for disabled children. A volunteer fundraiser is needed to help with
administration and projects in the charity's head office. Confidence on the computer is
essential and volunteer must be able to do 1 day/week or 4 hours min. Relevant training will
be provided.
Youth Play Workers - for Saturdays and holiday schemes run at various venues throughout
Surrey. Applicants should be enthusiastic and energetic with an interest in working with
disabled children. Need to commit for at least 6 months either 3-4 Saturdays per month
and/or during school holidays or at least 3 hours per week for the after school club in
Guildford.Marshals are needed to support this event by setting up, handing out race
numbers, giving out water and timing chips, pointing people in the right direction and cheer
on the runners!
Minibuses Drivers - For pick up from local schools to the after school activity clubs.
(Without this valuable service the children many disabled children would not be able to
attend our service.) The right people would need to have a clean licence, been driving over 2
years and be over the age of 25. Ideally the person will have a D1 on their licence but this is
not essential as we will pay for training for a certificate to drive our buses (not D1 certificate one for smaller buses)

DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD (under Woking)

The Woking D of E Award Forum has built up an excellent pool of camping and expedition
equipment. Many young people in Woking dont have their own tents, waterproofs,
rucksacks, camping mats etc and need these to be able take part in the Duke of Edinburgh
Award expeditions
Equipment Officer -. We have all the equipment stored in warm, dry rooms at the back of a
youth centre in the middle of Woking. We need a volunteer to help manage the equipment,
and organise giving and receiving back the equipment as it is loaned out to individual young
people and school groups for weekend expeditions.
The DofE expedition season is March-October, and in that period, there are typically 10
times when you will need to either check-out or check-in equipment at the store room.
Check-outs are normally on a Thursday evening for upto an hour, and Check-ins are
normally on the following Tuesday evening for upto an hour. You could change these
days/times to suit you.
There are also 4 other 1-2 hour evening meetings during the year, that you will need to
attend, including the annual presentation of DofE Awards, held at the HG Wells in Woking,
when upto 200 young people receive their Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards from local VIPs.

Eikon exists to develop potential in young people, families and our local community in
Surrey. We work alongside young people and families living in difficult or unhappy

Family Programme Support To help at Connect Families Course, a course aimed at
families resident in Woking with young people aged 14-16 and is designed to strengthen
family relationships. This is done by helping young people to understand and deal with the
stresses both they and their parents face and shows how we can appreciate one another
and encourage good behavior. We explore ways of dealing with peer pressure and
protecting against substance misuse. This is a relaxed course with an informal session at the
end of each week where snacks and drinks are served and parents are invited to join. The
course runs on one evening per week.
Youth Worker to help provide one-to-one mentoring and group work activities that develop
happy, thriving and resilient young adults who will contribute positively to society.
Lunch Club Volunteer to help deliver and oversee lunch clubs for vulnerable students,
young carers and to help with our Christian Union lunch club.
Housekeeper Enthusiastic and friendly volunteer to help keep Eikons offices looking spic
and span, and provide a comfortable working environment for staff during the day.
EPILEPSY ACTION
As well as campaigning to improve epilepsy services and raise awareness of the condition,
we offer assistance to people in a number of ways including a national network of branches,
accredited volunteers, regular regional conferences and freephone and email helplines.
Wonga Walk Coordinator Want to step out to help the 600,000 people living with epilepsy
in the UK today? We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to organise a sponsored Wonga
Walk in their local area.

Community Fundraising Assistants - Epilepsy Action's brand new Community Fundraising
team is looking for volunteers in Kent & Surrey.
This is a new opportunity to support the UK's leading epilepsy charity. We need your help
with everything from events and street collections to involving your company, friends or
community group. You can also get involved in our National Tea Break and Doodle Day.
Fundraising is fun and rewarding and we will support you all the way.
Collection and Events Support Volunteer Can you spare a few hours every now and
again to make a massive difference to people with epilepsy? If so, joining our collectors and
event support team could be for you! We're looking for people or groups who can give us a
few hours of their time to support our events and collections. This could a bucket collection
in a supermarket or a football stadium, helping at a coffee morning, or marshalling at a
sponsored walk. You can tell us when you would like to volunteer, and when we have
something happening in your area we'll get in touch and invite you along. We generally ask
you to join us for three hours at a time, but there's no obligation to say yes. This is an easy,
stress-free way to get involved with fundraising!
EPWORTH CHOIR
Epworth Choir is a friendly local choir that sings to raise money for local charities.
Refreshment Helper - Epworth Choir is a friendly local choir that sings to raise money for
local charities. It rehearses on Wednesdays through the year with a six week break in the
summer. We aim to serve tea, coffee and biscuits at the interval when people can chat and
socialise. We are looking for volunteers to work alternate weeks in pairs in the excellently
equipped kitchen facility in the Church hall, where you can also hear the Choir rehearse
while preparing and tidying away.
FAMILY LINE SURREY
FamilyLine is a small, successful charity that provides a well-established confidential
freephone telephone helpline (0808 800 5678) serving the whole of Surrey and beyond.
All our helpline volunteers are trained in reflective listening techniques, they are nonjudgmental, good listeners and usually have parenting (or grand-parenting) experience.

be signposted to, if appropriate, including information on parenting courses.
Helpline Volunteers to answer calls from parents and other family members of all ages who

non-judgemental and a good listener. Full training given. Times extremely flexible. Weekdays
and weekends from 10.00am - 10.00pm. There is a particular need for volunteers 2pm 5pm and 5pm - 8pm on Saturdays.
Lead Administrative Volunteer FamilyLine seeks to recruit a volunteer capable of leading,
organising and mailing the charitys posters and leaflets to a wide range of schools, colleges
and both voluntary and statutory agencies in Surrey, Sussex and south London Boroughs.
The office is situated in Leatherhead so own transport would be required. This is an
administrative role well-suited to someone with good organisational and computer skills.
FIRST CLASS LEARNING
FCL offers Maths and English programme to children of key stages 1, 2, 3 & 4. It focuses on
the key Maths and English learning outcomes for the National Curriculum for England and
Wales.
Class Room Assistant - Are you looking for experience working with children? Are you
reading English or studying Maths? Perhaps you are thinking of considering a career in
teaching. At FCL Centre in Woking we have children aged 5-16 years studying
supplementary Maths and English. You will be required to work as part of a team and assist
the Centre Manager with course materials, guide children on particular topics and work set.

direct supervision.
FOSTERING TEAM SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL
Foster carers for the children who are looked after by the county council. (The term
'looked after' refers to children who are under 18 and have been provided with care and
accommodation by children's services.) A large number of the children who we deal with will
have a history of physical, sexual or emotional abuse. Some may have suffered the death of
a parent, or have parents who are too ill to care for them. Others may have disabilities and
many different needs. Please note this role requires full time caring.

first ever Visitor Information Centre situated within the Godalming museum near to the

GOLDSWORTH CARE
Goldsworth Care is a voluntary organisation offering neighbourly help to those in need of
assistance in the Goldsworth area.
Drivers: for a neighbourhood care scheme in the Goldsworth area, helping transporting local
neighbours to the dentist, hospital, shopping etc.
Telephone Volunteers: covering the telephone one day a month or fortnight. Taking calls
from elder neighbours needing taking to the shops, doctors etc. and allocating volunteer
drivers to the elderly person. This is ideal for volunteers who would like to remain flexible.
GOLDSWORTH PARK COMMUNITY CENTRE
The Goldsworth Park Community Association (GPCA) represents the interests and promotes
the benefit of the residents of Goldsworth Park, all of whom are automatically members of
the Association. The GPCA operates the Community Hall at Goldwater Lodge, recently reopened after the arson fire in 2012, which is available for hire for functions or for regular
activities. The Association also publishes Goldsworth News, a magazine full of articles of
interest to the residents currently published in alternate months. In recent months, the
GPCA has been in the forefront of campaigning for new public toilets in the recreation
ground, replacing the Welcome street maps, supporting the call for an improved crossing
by the Fox and Flowerpot pub and many other issues.
Advertising Sales person - The Goldsworth Park Community (GPCA) publishes a
magazine- Goldsworth News - which is delivered free to nearly 5000 homes and business.
The printing is paid by advertising. The GPCA needs someone to contact local business,
many of whom regularly advertise already, and to identify new businesses to contact and
"sell" Advertising space. Details of all existing advertisers and a new leads will be provided.

Girl Guide Helpers: We are really looking for a Guider to run the Guide unit and one or two
helpers to help her. All the equipment is still available at the hall and the new leader could
pick the evening she wants to run the unit subject to booking with the school. There would
be lots of help from other guiders to ensure the success of the unit but none of us have time
to run it fully ourselves as we all run other units already.
GUIDE DOG FOR THE BLIND ASSOCIATION (Woking & District Branch)
Collector - collecting for guide dogs 1-2 days per month for an hour or two each time in the
Borough of Woking
Speaker - To give talks and presentations about the work of Guide Dogs. You will need to
keep up to date with Guide Dogs news and key messages.
Fundraiser - Being a passionate local ambassador for Guide Dogs work
Coordinating your group in raising money through events or other activities - delegating
tasks to other
volunteers in your team as required, for example booking venues for
events. Welcoming new members and providing information about your upcoming events
Working with your local Community Fundraiser and keeping them informed of your groups
work and the people involved. Making sure your group follows policy and procedure when

Guide Dogs for the Blind have serveral Fundraising opportunities. If you are intersested,

HEADWAY SURREY (Guildford)
HEADWAY Surrey supports people with head injuries, their families and carers and
promotes understanding of the implications of head injury through-out Surrey.
Befriender- Spending time talking to someone who has had a brain injury and encouraging
them to get out and about by taking part in leisure activities. This could be going for a coffee,
to the cinema, to a football match or playing squash.
Resource Centre Volunteers are needed to work with members doing a variety of activities
including writing, computer skills, art etc. Members have all suffered brain injury and the
activities take place in small groups each day Tuesday to Thursday 10-4pm.
HELP FOR HEROES (Surrey Group)
Help for Heroes was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 out of a desire to
help the wounded Servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.
Event fundraising Assistant Help for Heroes run different types of Fundraising activities
and people can do anything that is legal; a sponsored parachute jump, dinner party, run a
marathon, swim the channel, give a day's pay, shave your head, we don't mind, as long as
its legal, fun and you donate the proceeds to Help for Heroes!
As an event fundraising assistant you could be asked to help out in all sorts of ways by
attending event, selling merchandise, supporting volunteers fundraising activities or just help
when needed.
HOME-START WOKING
A voluntary organisation in which volunteers offer regular support, friendship and limited
practical help to young families under stress in their own homes, helping to prevent family
crisis and breakdown and emphasising the pleasures of family life. This organisation
provides help and support to young families under stress and currently requires family
visiting volunteers to visit and support families with children under 5 who are experiencing
difficulties.
Trustees - We are looking for a trustee to join our lively, friendly team of seven specifically to
support a paid member of staff to research funding opportunities with trusts, foundations and
local companies. The volunteer can work in the office or from home, liaising with the staff
team and other trustees and reporting to the bi monthly Trustee Meetings. An interest in
supporting children and families as an interest in fund-raising is essential.
Friends of Home Start - Volunteers will have the opportunity to join and get to know a group
of volunteers who meet regularly and who are committed to supporting our Charity. We are

commitment - you will be called upon at various times to visit families as and when required.
JIGSAW/Woking Vineyard Church
Aimed at supporting families with pre-school children in financial need, we run once a month
and offer a 'caf style' setting with tea, coffee and cake provided for the parents and a play
area and healthy snacks for the children. The practical support is given through good quality
clothes and toys and equipment. These are provided free of charge.

disability, emotional or situational circumstances so as to enable them to have a voice in
decisions that affect them and to assert their rights.

KEYRING LIVING SUPPORT NETWORKS
KeyRing provides support for vulnerable people to live independently in their own homes,
including housing brokerage and community inclusion.
Community Connections Volunteer - This will be a varied role supporting adults to live
independently to live in their own homes. The support could include helping people to
budget, read their letters, plan a holiday, apply for a job or access local leisure facilities.
KNAPHILL CABIN YOUTH CLUB
We are a completely volunteer run, local community project aimed at local young people
from the age of 11 - 17, operating in the style of an informal drop in youth cafe every Monday
from 7pm to 9pm at The Vyne, Knaphill's local community centre. The central aims of The
Cabin are 'To provide local young people with a fun, safe place to meet, relax, interact and
connect with others. We seek to encourage participation in positive leisure activities and also
to ensure that our members are actively involved in the running the The Cabin. We strive to
encourage responsible attitudes, valuing others and building good relations with all sections
of the community.
Activities Officer to plan a programme of session activities for the Club, including
organising materials and checking compliance; to ensure that session resources are well
maintained. The Club is a free drop-in youth club for young people aged 11-17. Hours to
suit - work from home.
Fundraising Officer - To organise fundraising for the Club by liaising with potential
sponsors, submitting grant applications and organising fundraising events. Liaising closely
with the Finance Officer. Hours to suit - work from home.
Caf Officer - To run a small cafe/tuck shop during youth club session: keeping records,
maintain stock and provide an up-to-date price list. To promote healthy eating, Fairtrade,
fruit and help develop hot meals. Monday evenings.

material for the village and local schools, in order to help recruit members and

induction sessions, DBS checks and following up references and maintaining an up-to-date
register of volunteers.
Training and Borough Liaison Officer To liaise with appropriate bodies about potential
training opportunities and arrange an annual event for volunteers.
Youth Engagement Officer To help run youth club sessions at the Vyne Community Centre
in Knaphill and facilitate young people's input into the club, especially with regard to activities
(ideally by establishing a youth council).
KNAPHILL CARE
A voluntary group of members of the local community who aim to offer help to Knaphill
residents of any age, who find everyday tasks difficult and cannot get help elsewhere or
cannot afford to pay for it.We aim to bridge the gaps in existing services, to lend a hand
when family and friends or other agencies are not able to help, to assist but not to replace
them.
Good Neighbour to help with shopping, driving, home visits and for covering the telephone.
The hours and days are flexible.
LAKEVIEW COMMUNITY ACTION
Sythwood Youth Committee runs on a Friday night 6.30 to 10pm and is a new youth club
providing a range of activities and trips out for young people (14-18 years) living on
Lakeview Estate in Woking. The club is self-run with a committee of young people who are
currently engaged in generating their own funding and trying to make life better for young
people on Lakeview Estate, Woking. This is one of the most deprived areas in Surrey
having low income and employment levels.
The Lynx Youth Club has been running for a number of years catering for younger children
(11-14 years) on a Thursday night 6.30 to 9.30pm.Trips which might include bowling, ice
skating and paintball. There are plans to set up a motorbike workshop and a Football team.
LCAG is a small successful community led organisation tackling the issues facing people
living in pockets of disadvantage in affluent areas and is looking to both consolidate and
expand its activities.
Youth Worker - We are looking for Youth Workers to help run our sessions for our friendly
group of young people between the ages of 11 - 17 years of age. 7-9 pm Thursday evening.
Our youth club loves to express their creative skills in a variety of different ways so
volunteers will be encouraged to bring and implement new ideas for activities, days out etc.
We are looking for enthusiastic people with a bright and positive attitude to encourage and
interact with the young people from and around the Lakeview area.
Youth Worker Sythwood Youth Committee For young people (14 18 years) runs on a
Friday night 6.30 to 10pm providing a range of activities and trips out living on Lakeview
Estate in Woking. Trips might include bowling, ice skating, paintball and there are plans to
set up a motorbike workshop on the estate and a football team to play in the local league.
Youth Workers (Busy Bee) for our friendly, fun-loving group consisting of children between
the ages of 7 - 11. Our group loves to express their creative skills in a variety of different
ways. We are looking for enthusiastic people with a bright and positive attitude to help
encourage our children to work together, lead, and interact with the children, to facilitate all
activities. We welcome volunteers to help guide and develop our kids to their full potential. A
DBS check will be required.
LEUKAEMIA CARE SOCIETY
To offer emotional and financial support to patients, carers and family members who have
been affected by Leukaemia, Lymphoma and allied blood disorders.The Leukaemia Care

LIBRARY DIRECT HOME SERVICE
Library Direct Home Service is aimed at people who cannot get to a library through illness,
disability or because they are carers who cannot leave their charges. This could be at the
individuals home or in a Residential home as part of the Care Home Service.Housebound
people sometimes lack social interaction and appreciate having someone to talk to. Whilst
the majority of housebound people may be elderly, people of any age may and do use this
service, including children and young people. Surrey Libraries have a good selection of large
print books and/or audiobooks. There is no charge for this service which includes up to 6
free requests per client per visit.
Library Direct Volunteer - Library Direct Home Service volunteers visit readers who can no
longer get into a library due to ill health, disability, mobility problems or caring
responsibilities. Volunteers provide a personal service of selecting, collecting and delivering
books. This is a county-wide service, and we are looking for volunteers across Surrey.
Volunteers are recruited and managed by Surrey Libraries. Days, times and frequency can
be negotiated.
LIGHTBOX (THE)
The Lightbox is an exciting 7 million new contemporary gallery and museum under
construction in Woking, due to open in 2007. Volunteers are a vital part of our project and
work with our small staff team in a relaxed and friendly environment. Work is varied and fun.
Front of House Gallery Stewards - This is a varied and interesting role which involves
dealing with the general public as well as staff and fellow volunteers. Min.age 16.
The role includes: Welcoming visitors, providing information to visitors, acting as a steward
in the galleries and selling merchandise in the galleries.
LINKABLE
LinkAble is a Woking-based charity serving those with learning disabilities in the local
community. Our mission is to enable those with learning disabilities to develop their potential
and enjoy socially inclusive fulfilled lives. Since 1989 LinkAble has been helping people with
learning disabilities by providing children, young people and adults with a range of sporting,
social and leisure activities in and around the community that would otherwise be
unavailable. People with learning disabilities face many barriers that exclude them from
mainstream society. We help break down those barriers by supporting service users from the
age of four with no upper age limit no matter how challenging their disability or behaviour.
Receptionist/Administrator - To welcome visitors and service users to LinkAble. The role
requires referring visitors to members of staff, answering the telephone and taking
messages. Also to provide admin. support of an ad-hoc nature.
Community Support volunteer - You will be required to provide support and promote
independence, and help with the group expand their life skills, you will join in with Many fun
activities- a car would be useful as the group go out into the community to the pub, the big
apple, cinema etc. Mondays 5 - 9pm, Thursdays 6 - 9pm,
Caf Assistant - The volunteer role involves assisting in the day to day running of the Cafe
such as: serving customers, preparing food and drinks, cleaning, maintaining food hygiene
standards and assisting adults with learning disabilities in their work in the cafe. Hours 9.30 14.30 Tuesday Friday. Minimum age 18.
Support workers - Disco Nights: assisting a group of (mainly) young adults who have
learning disabilities at a weekly disco / club night. Wednesdays 7pm - 9.30pm.
Play Volunteer 16+ - volunteers are required to help with Under 18's on Tuesdays (term
time only) from 7.30-8.00, Fridays 5.30 -7.00 and Saturdays 10.00-2.00 in Woking and on
Wednesdays 7.00-9.00 in Camberley.
Play Volunteer 18+ - all of the above plus various additional evenings in both Woking and
Camberley, including swimming, keep fit, drama and sports groups. Drivers - We need to
recruit several minibus drivers to cover all school holidays (daytime only), evenings and
weekends. You need to be a confident driver with a clean licence, aged 25+. Experience of
working with or happy to work with people of all ages with learning and some physical

LONDON BUS MUSEUM
Museum Steward and Guide - involved in face to face contract with the public, welcoming
and receiving them to the London Bus Museum, stewarding, guiding and advising them
about the exhibits on display. You will also have the opportunity to answer enquiries about
the Museum and its events over the telephone and in person. You may have the opportunity
to assist in administration tasks in the Museum's office. You may be asked to fulfil a similar
role elsewhere on the Brooklands Museum site.
MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT
Macmillan Cancer Support provides medical, financial, practical and emotional support to
people living with cancer whether it is the patient or their family and friends. We currently
help one in two people affected by cancer and Macmillan's ambition is to support everybody.
Collectors Collecting outside supermarkets (mainly under cover) on specified days (up to 6
a year) for a 1 to 2 hour session with a collecting tin. Collections take place on Saturdays
plus one Friday mid-October. New volunteers will work alongside experienced collectors.
Event organiser is required to promote and organise events and functions for the Woking
Group in order to raise money for the charity.
MARIE CURIE CANCER CARE
Daffodil Appeal Collector - As a Daffodil Appeal collector you will need to give a couple of
hours at one or more collections in Woking during February and March. You will be provided
with the daffodil box, collection tin, hints and tips and a collectors guide to Marie Curie
Cancer Care.
Daffodil Box Co-ordinator - To help co-ordinate the local daffodil box campaign for the
Great Daffodil Appeal in your local community. To distribute and collect in the daffodil boxes
and then count, bank and record all monies from them.
Event Promoter - Needed to make a presence within the community and encourage people
to get involved and participate in the regionally organised events. You might visit gyms,
shops and different venues dropping off leaflets and promoting events.
MARIE CURIE CHARITY SHOP

Management Group Members - We currently have about 70 volunteers and 10 members of
the Management Group. We are looking for two or three people to help us on the Library
Management Group planning the future direction of the Library, arranging training for our
volunteers and looking after our volunteer rotas, writing a volunteers magazine, preparing
leaflets to go out to the community, raising the profile of the Library, organising events and
displays , developing the Library website, and a whole lot of other jobs that are involved in
keeping the Library running for the local community. This is a really wide and interesting
role which would enable you to use your talents in lots of different ways or to specialise in
one area if you prefer. New Haw Library has been a volunteer run Library since October
2012. Surrey County Council provide the premises and the books, but the New Haw Library
Community Partnership provide the volunteers to run the Library. The Partnership is a
Limited Company and has charitable status.

Borough and Surrey County Councils, local businesses with community support obligations
and local tradesmen and women), and need help to research this. The PGSPA Committee

QUEST GROUP RIDING FOR THE DISABLED
The objective of the Riding for the Disabled Association is to give the opportunity of riding to
any disabled person who might benefit in their general health and well-being.
RDA Helper: Volunteers assist with leading ponies and horses for disabled riders. Typically,
one volunteer leads the pony, whilst 2 side walkers are needed to assist the rider, providing
encouragement and helping them to do simple exercises. Previous experience with horses is
not required as full training is provided. Experience with people is just as important. If you
enjoy running and walking, you could be doing something vitally important while you keep fit.
Each session is supervised by a qualified instructor. We have sessions 4 days a week,
Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, some in the afternoon and some in the evening.
RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE SUPPORT CENTRE
RASASC offers support to male and female survivors of rape and sexual abuse through
telephone helplines, face to face counselling, and family support and self-help groups. Run
almost entirely by around 70 volunteers, we are based in Guildford serving Surrey and the
surrounding counties.
Female Helpline Volunteer: To listen to callers who have suffered rape and or sexual abuse
in Surrey or surrounding areas. As well as supporting the friends, family and partners who
are caring for the survivor. To mainly listen, but offer advice, sign post to other places if
requested. You will work from Guildford in the evenings 7.30-9.30pm.
Fundraising Events Helpers: To help behind the scenes leading up to on the day of an
event. Locations and times will vary depending on the time of the year and volunteers
availability. Availability agreed by mutual agreement by the volunteer and Management
Co-ordinator. Examples of fundraising events in the past are: Sponsored Walk, Charity
Gliding Day, Winter Fair, Ladies Pamper Evening and Balloon Race. Future suggestions are

Relate West Surrey offers relationship counselling support to individuals, couples, families
and young persons (age 11-25).
Treasurer/Trustee - Relate West Surrey is seeking a Treasurer/Trustee who has a finance
background to sit on its Board as Treasurer. The role requires a working knowledge of
accounts and the ability to oversee the role of the bookkeeper who prepares the monthly
accounts. In addition the individual would have the following responsibilities;

Remap design and make equipment for disabled people in order to solve some of their
practical issues which they cannot solve through retail purchased equipment.
DIY and Practical Equipment Designer: If you have any basic DIY, crafts person or
woodwork skills than perhaps you could help design and make practical equipment to
address the problems faced by many disabled people for whom no commercial product is
available.
Volunteers work from home either on a regular basis or for a few hours each month. All
volunteers are attached to a local panel who regularly meet where cases are presented, and
appropriate member volunteers are asked to discuss with the client how their problem may
be overcome. You will then design and manufacture a suitable aid.

Bookham Village hall every 6 weeks in the evening.
Equipment Designer: If you have any electrical, electronic or mechanical engineering skills
then perhaps you could help design and make practical equipment to address the problems
faced by many disabled people for whom no commercial product is available. You will meet
with clients and discuss how their problem may be overcome. Work will be carried out from
home.
Occupational therapists are needed to support Remap visiting disabled clients in their own
homes. You will need to advise and liaise with other volunteers on practical solutions for
disabled people. The role can be on a regular basis or for a few hours each month. All
volunteers are attached to a local panel who meet regularly to discuss cases and exchange
ideas.

Wisley Welcomer - RHS Garden Wisley, the societys flagship garden, has volunteering

and sitting with them and accompanying them to other departments; and assisting staff with

SAMBER - RIDING FOR THE DISABLED
To provide safe and correct instruction in riding whilst having fun. For one child this may be
learning to cope with the movement of the pony; another to steering the pony unaided. Each
child is assessed as an individual and appropriate targets set. We hold a gymkhana each
year - all riders compete for schools trophy. Riding has been shown to motivate and
stimulate children both mentally and physically resulting in improved muscle strength and
communication skills.
Riding Lesson Volunteers required from 9.30-12.30 pm every Tuesday (term time only) in
Chobham to help disabled children with riding lessons. Volunteers should be reasonably fit
and comfortable with ponies and disabled children.
SATRO
We work with children from the very start of school through to their final years in education
(5-19) aiming to inspire and enthuse young people about the world of work.
We deliver exciting science workshops and young entrepreneurs challenges, run business
games and mentoring schemes, train & support teachers, hold careers showcases, science
festivals and much more besides!
Volunteer Support - We need a volunteer to commit enough time and effort to ensure the
success of the events. Use their marketing expertise and flair to develop and promote the
programme. Use SATROs excellent contacts to market the events to a targeted audience.
Help secure donations of prizes / experiences for a high quality charity auction. Work with
SATROs experienced team to ensure a fantastic event, including attendance on the day,
looking after key delegates, sponsors, speakers and performers. Manage practical aspects
of each event liaison with the venue, catering, ticketing, badging etc. Maintain an accurate
database of invitees and attendees. Co-ordinate follow-up communication to all involved.
You will need to be a self-starter with event-management experience, happy to work at home
as well as travel to venues and attend regular meetings at the SATRO office in the Surrey
Research Park in Guildford. Experience of dealing with sponsors would be wonderful.
Games/Events Volunteer - to help with our one day events, you may be helping a team of
children to make lighthouses, run a Company for the day or make a sporting structure ! You
can also volunteer to help us in the office preparing the activities. We are also looking for
volunteers with engineering experience to help with construction challenges.

Our organisation is a charity that trains and prepares youngsters for life in the workplace,
through teamwork and leadership skills. We will be moving to a purpose built building on
Goldsworth Lake in two years time and this opens up many exciting opportunities.
Instructors needed to help teach young people (12-18) the ethos of the Sea Cadets
including adventure based activities, sailing and military skills. You will have the chance to
go on courses to enhance your knowledge of outward bounds skills as well as being able to
work towards relevant qualifications. Other activities to get involved in include: first aid,
canoeing and band practice. Monday and Thursday evenings with occasional weekends.

Seeing Dogs has made increasing progress since it started operations in 2001. Our highly
successful rearing/training programme presently included several dogs either puppy reared
or receiving their Seeing Dog training. We now have 13 working Seeing Dogs, including two
Hungarian wire-haired Vizslas, which are the first breed in the UK, and maybe the world, to
qualify to guide blind people.
Magazine Editor The Magazine editor produces the magazine from the information
submitted by the supporters. The position is so important that the editor is also a trustee.
The editor can be driven to the three meeting held annually in London. Currently there are
three issues annually. By encouraging more material the magazine can be published more
often with a resultant growth in the charity.
Minute Secretary Helped by recording of the meeting. The minute secretary will produce
minutes for 3 hours trustees meeting held annually. The minute secretary can become a
trustee and take part in the management of the charity. Please note, may have to travel to

Send Family Link is a registered charity providing support and services for families visiting

involvement and knowledge of the community and being an essential link between the
person and support from the Charity.
Driver needed to assist visually impaired people from their homes, into the drivers car and
take them to local clubs or classes and back.
Driver /ICT Volunteer - To assist visually impaired people from their homes, into the driver's
car and take them to communication class at local venue to SAVI at Rentwood, Leatherhead

bulky or expensive equipment. The equipment may need a minimal amount of setting up in
the person's home, e.g. phones with memory dialling, or talking book tape recorders etc.
ICT Volunteer - To assist visually impaired people in their homes, and/or at one of our
Communications Classes locally with ICT Training.
Class Assistant - To assist the Communication Class facilitator at a local venue to provide
an environment conducive to where a small group of visually impaired people can practise
touch typing, Braille and Moon skills and support each other.
No previous experience of these techniques is necessary.
Basic support required is for reading, guiding people in the venue, assisting with making tea
and coffee, arranging chairs and small tables. (This is not a domestic or personal care role).
Low Vision Services Volunteer The role will enable visually impaired (VI) people to make
the best possible use of the reading aids/magnifiers purchased from SAVI and Eye Clinics
and will include: Visiting (VI) people in their homes; Helping (VI) people to read more
effectively; Supporting SAVI staff in delivering Low Vision services
Phone Friend To befriend one or more visually impaired people in Surrey through regular

SURREY 2 WHEELS FOR ALL
We are a Travel Smart funded community project.
Our aim is to teach and train adults to cycle on 2-wheeled bikes, whether complete
beginners or returners. Our target audience are adults from the Sheerwater and Maybury
area, who might want to cycle for transport reasons, to spend time with their families, to
improve their health or just cycle for fun. We are located at Sheerwater Recreation ground,
and hold regular weekly sessions on alternate Fridays and Saturdays, all year round. Our
morning schedule includes training for beginners and improvers, and our afternoons are
spent on short community based rides on cycle pathways and roads. Additionally we offer
evening rides and outings on bikes in the summer. The sessions are still free at present and
we provide bikes for our riders.We are trained bikeability and ride leaders and are
passionate to improve skills and make cycling accessible to all.
Cycling support/assistance - The main and overall aim of this role is to assist the project
coordinators to train and impart cycle skills to all riders and group members, whether
complete beginners or improvers.

people over 23 preferably over 30, willing to undergo training and capable of giving advice
and guidance.

STEPS Voluntary Learning Support Worker - Located at Woking Learning Centre, 6
Wayside Court, Woking, Surrey, this role is to support an existing team in the delivery of
structured programmes of personal and social education to small groups of challenging
young people. The role would be:
To support the delivery of training sessions to an appropriate level.
To support group work and individual training packages to a small group of young
people. To assist each young person to develop a portfolio of work in the context of
their Personal Development Plan. To support monitoring and recording of training
delivery as required. To ensure all work is delivered and evaluated in accordance
with the programme's Equal Opportunities policy. To attend occasional team
meetings as agreed. To attend formal supervision every term.
Mentors will support 14 to 16 year-olds in Woking. This work is part of a wider Youth
Consortium project working with hard-to-reach young people who are at risk of becoming
what is officially known as NEET (not in Education, Employment or Training). If you become
a mentor, you would typically see a young person for half an hour once a week or once a
fortnight. Mentoring is not about being constantly on call. We wouldnt expect you to take on
more than one mentee at a time, unless you want to make a bigger time commitment.
Training Support Officer - This is a supporting people role, the work takes place on a
canal boat, conducting environmental work, however, other volunteers manage the boat and
environmental training can be provided if needed, no boating or environmental skills are
needed to apply for this role, though a willingness to work in this environment is essential.
Volunteers are asked to volunteer the same day of the week, a minimum of one day per four
weeks is requested, though the same day each week would be ideal.
The role involves supporting small groups of up to four environmental volunteers as they
carry out practical environmental work and then helping them to provide the documentary
evidence (written, photographic and audio) of their understanding and progress.
The environmental volunteers on Swingbridge 2 carry out essential conservation work along
the River Wey, Basingstoke Canal and the Thames. The environmental volunteers are
mostly from disadvantaged backgrounds, with poor education, learning difficulties,
homelessness, addiction, being an offender or ex-offender, or long term unemployed. Young
people (14-19) from the Trusts own STEPS programmes also benefit from training on
Swingbridge2. All have the potential to progress and develop their skills, thereby improving

Swim Assistant: Surrey Dolphins is an assisted swim charity offering Runnymede and
Woking adults with restricted mobility the opportunity to swim and exercise in a safe and
friendly environment. We need a fit and strong volunteer to assist with pushing wheelchairs
in and out of the pool and helping members to transfer from our waterproof chairs back into
their own wheelchair and of course assisting members in the water during the swimming

Chairman (WOK957): Surrey Drug & Alcohol Care (SDAC) receives its funding from Surrey

The Fire and Emergency Support Service is a partnership with Surrey Fire and Rescue

domestic fires, floods and similar Fire service related incidents. It is delivered 24/7 by
specially trained Red Cross volunteers on-call working on a rota basis.
Fire Volunteer: As a Fire Volunteer you will be supporting Surrey and Fire Rescue in the
local community raising awareness of Fire Safety and assisting and supporting at community
events and campaigns.

Volunteer Independent Visitors are required for befriending children who are in care, either in
foster care or residential care who have limited contact with family members. Training and
support given and expenses paid, times vary but usually outside school hours.
SURREY SEARCH AND RESCUE
Surrey Search and Rescue exists to offer a special service to the Police and other
emergency services throughout Surrey, and the rest of the UK if called upon. The unit is
operational 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.
On average 2100 people go missing in Surrey every year, although they do not all require a
full call out or search.

vulnerable and will need our assistance. These include the elderly and those suffering from
dementia, Alzheimer's and children that go missing for a number of reasons.

Although Non-operational members do not get actively involved in searches, these members
are equally vital to the Unit
SURREY STOP SMOKING SERVICE
The Surrey Stop Smoking Service offers free stop smoking support and advice to residents
of Surrey, through community clinics, telephone support and one to one services

To telephone new clients and discuss the stop smoking support options available and
booking them onto chosen path. Volunteers will be making a huge contribution towards the
better health of clients.
SURREY WILDLIFE TRUST
Environmental Volunteers are wanted for various projects in Pirbright and surrounding
areas, mainly in practical conservation (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Also weekend
work at Horsell Common (see above) and Brentmoor Heath. All parties are supervised.

own phone (costs will be reimbursed by SWAN) - to contact suitable volunteers in the
organisation to meet the client's needs. Duty Officers may volunteer for as little or as many
duties each month that suits them.
SWINGBRIDGE COMMUNITY BOAT PROJECT

young people and the confidence to learn how to take responsibility for skippering boat trips

Communication Support Volunteer Providing support for people with speech and
communication difficulties (aphasia/dysphasia) following stroke, in a group workshop for 2
hours a week (term time only). The role involves assisting stroke recoverers in practicing all

Practical assistance can be helping with light shopping, walking the dog, collecting

Phoning Friends Phoning Friends creates befriending relationships on the phone between
volunteers and isolated older people. You will need to be a good listener; friendly, patient and
enjoy talking on the telephone? We will ask you to phone 1 - 3 older people in England or
Wales, to reduce their feelings of isolation and loneliness and enhance their contact with the
outside world. You will call on a regular basis and build up firm friendships over time, on the
phone. You will call an older person at least twice a month for up to half an hour. The calls
will be made from your own home or place of work, in line with Employer Supported
Volunteer Schemes. We will provide full training, offer regular social events and reimburse

Providing a comprehensive service to people who have suffered from crime
Caseworker: We are looking for people to join our local team to provide emotional support
to Victims of Crime. Initially requiring 4 days training over two weeks, this involves face to
face and telephone contacts with victims. This volunteering role is done in your own time as
part of a team, with supervision close by. We need people who are able to empathise without
preconceptions, are people persons, have their own computer with basic IT and good
communication skills.
VISITING FRIENDS
Sheltered Housing Events Coordinator - Make a BIG difference by being part of an
initiative to help combat isolation and loneliness amongst our older people in sheltered
accommodation by organising a tea morning/afternoon once a month. Help by bringing
these older people together for a chat and a little socialising. If you are friendly, have a
spare 2-3 hours once a month and are able to serve tea and cake, you will be changing the
lives of many desperately lonely older people.
Home Befriender - A sad fact is that there are over 1 million people over the age of 65 living
lonely, isolated lives. You can make all the difference by helping to combat this ever
increasing problem by sparing one hour a week to visit an older person living alone,
desperate for your friendship.
WATERWAYS RECOVERY - Help to Restore the Waterways
Week long working holidays usually start around 4pm on the first Saturday and finish at
lunch time on the following Saturday. The working day usually runs from 9am to 5pm

Watts Gallery in Compton first opened to the public on 1 April 1904. Its aim was to be a
Gallery devoted to the art of George Frederic Watts OM RA (1817-1904). G.F. Watts was
one of the most eminent artists of the Victorian age and Watts Gallery was to be permanent
exhibition of his art for whoever wished to see it, enshrining the vision of 'art for all'. The
collection consists of paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture by Watts, all works allocated

Sessions will be aimed at young people from 11 16 years old, Woking Inclusive Sports
Club will provide opportunities for these young people to play a range of sports. Activities
and sports include boccia, new age curling, wheelchair basketball, table cricket, goalball,
football and more.
All sessions will be overseen by fully qualified, experienced coaches and is therefore a
fantastic opportunity for you to be mentored by experienced coaches as well as gaining
coaching qualifications in the future.
WOKING (ST MARY OF BETHANY) SCOUT GROUP (7th)
Beaver Scout Helper: Initially you would act as a helper within the Beaver Colony with a
potential then to move into a uniformed roll. Beaver Scouts are children aged between 6
and 8 yrs old. They belong to the first and youngest section in the Scouting family. Easily
recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends,
playing games, going on visits and helping others. Temporary opportunities for young people

WOKING AND SAM BEARE HOSPICES
Registered charity providing specialist palliative care and support for people with life limiting
and terminal illness in Surrey. The Hospice provides community, day care and inpatient
services.
Warehouse Sorter: Lively and fun person wanted to join our great team in Knaphill. Our
main sorting warehouse is a busy and interesting environment. If you have an eye for
fashion, an interest in books, toys or bric-a-brac, you are just the person to help the team
sort goods ready for distribution to one of our 11 shops.
Retail Assistance required. Do you have the flare for fashion? An eye for detail ? Then
why not volunteer in one of Woking Hospice shops. There are 17 shops in the borough to
choose from. Volunteers required from 9.30am - 1.00pm or from 1.00pm - 5.00pm MonSun. Minimum age 16. By helping out you will be making a difference direct to patient care.
Driver/Delivery Person to work in our main warehouse in Knaphill. Collecting and delivering

WOKING COMMUNITY MEDIATION SERVICE
Mediators - Within the community, neighbours may get into disputes over boundaries,
hedges and trees, noise, anti-social behaviour, rubbish, parking, children, pets etc.
Community Mediators work in pairs with neighbours in this situation to help them resolve the
dispute. The process involves meeting with each party to listen to the issues and then, if
possible, bringing the two parties together, in a neutral location, where the mediators will
facilitate a meeting where each party will listen to each other, discuss the issues and reach

an agreement which will usually spell out what each party will do to avoid the problem from
arising again, and how they will deal with it if it does. Training will be provided
WOKING CORONERS COURT
To support practically and emotionally the family and other witnesses attending the
Coroners' Courts. To liaise with other parties appearing before the Court to ensure their
understanding of its role and the procedures in order to facilitate its smooth and effective
administration. To refer families and witnesses to other Agencies if so requested for ongoing
help with coming to terms with their bereavement.
Support Volunteer - An opportunity to provide support on the day of the inquest only to
families and witnesses going through a traumatic proceeding. Working as part of a team,
volunteers will need to commit at least 1 day per fortnight working at the court.
WOKING CYCLE STATIONS
Community Interest Company that sets out to promote cycling to everyone, young and old
and to teach people how to keep their cycles maintained in good order and keep cycling. We
are also involved in the sale of second hand refurbished bikes which we complete in our
workshop and we give bikes to people for reduced rates who need a bike to get to work or
for recreation.
Cycle Mechanics We are looking for individuals who have enthusiasm and dedication for
cycling and Cycle mechanics who like working with young people to help train them in cycle
maintenance and pass on their knowledge and skills. You would be working from our new
purpose built Cycle Station Workshop in Goldsworth Park Woking as a valued member of a
Community Interest Company that sets out to promote cycling to everyone, young and old
and to teach people how to keep their cycles maintained in good order and keep cycling. We

WOKING TOWN DISTRICT GIRL GUIDE ASSN
Leaders/Unit Helpers/General Volunteers In Girlguiding we offer tailored programs to girls
aged between 5-14. Each section is made up to benefit the girls in many ways, ensuring
they are able to reach their potential along with gaining new skills, becoming more
independent, and making many new friends along the way. As a leader you will be
organising and leading meetings on a weekly basis for girls, ensuring they are reaching the
goals laid out form them through the programs. We will offer training to the individual
leaders and volunteers, tailored to the age range you are dealing with, along with ensuring
you have a valid certificate in first-aid, by offering you a course to attend. Through
Girlguiding you will see the girls grow as they work their way through the programs, seeing
and output from everything that you input. How much time you put in to guiding, aside the
designated meeting time is entirely up to the volunteer. You will enjoy every moment that
you put in. You will have the opportunity to work towards qualifications, which are all
evidence based, allowing you to do even more fun things with the girls. Throughout the year
Girlguiding offers many thanks to its leaders and volunteers by running fun events for them,
but you also get to take part in anything that you plan with the girls. You will have fun as well
as the girls!
WOKING TWINS CLUB
Playgroup Volunteer - Woking Twins Club aims to support families with multiples in Woking
and the surrounding area, by providing advice, encouragement and an environment to share
ideas and experiences. WTC is currently run only by mums with young multiples and
therefore we are looking for any extra pairs of hands who could help and offer support and
advice to (new) parents of multiples. We are based in Woking with out members coming
from all over the surrounding areas. We run a weekly bumps, babes, and toddler group for
families with, or expecting, multiples and their siblings. These sessions provide a great
opportunity to meet other parents and carers of twins or more.
We are looking for people who can give a hand in setting and closing up, making tea,
helping with craft or playdoh activities, snack time, or give an extra pair of hands for feeding
babies and offering any advice or support to parents. Ideally we are looking for volunteers
with experience of young children. WTC also hold an annual summer BBQ and Christmas
Party and days and nights out with and without the children.
We have a range of parenting books and DVDs in the club library. There are various toys,
including role-play, ride-ons, puzzles, cars, trains, dolls etc. for the toddlers to play with as
well as a craft activity and playdoh each week. There is a separate baby area with soft
blankets and baby toys and a friendly environment for the younger children. Babies and
toddlers come together at the end of each session for some singing and bubbles.
WOKING YOUTH CENTRE
Woking Youth Centre is in a predominantly Muslim population. The Youth Centre aims, to
provide young people between the ages of 11 to 19 years old with a safe environment in
which they can have fun, challenge themselves and sometimes even change their life.
Assistant Youth Worker - Do you have the ability to inspire and engage young people? We
are looking for enthusiastic team members to support and deliver youth work. As Youth
Workers we strive to equio young people with the skills, knowledge and experience to
recognise and achieve their full potential. You wont need qualifications as training will be

to relate and engage with young people.A volunteer who can relate to young

The York Road Project is a registered charity which runs a direct access hostel for single
homeless people in the Woking and surrounding area.
Volunteer Charity Fundraiser - To assist in increasing income from fundraising and other

Manager and Project Director to plan and facilitate fundraising events and also research

experience or expert knowledge is required, other than individual experience of work and

Learn to Earn - a range of one day programmes for local schools that enables young people
aged 13-15 years to develop a crucial understanding of the importance of developing skills,
knowledge and experience for working life through their education and future training. The
programme engages students in 6 activity based sessions exploring the relationship
between learning and the attainment of personal goals.
YOUR SANCTUARY, Womens Refuge
Your Sanctuary works to prevent domestic abuse and undo the damage it causes to
individuals, families and communities. We provide specialist services to women, men and
children affected by domestic abuse as well as prevention, advocacy and education
programmes. Our clients come from diverse communities, religions, ethnicities, sexual
orientations, socio-economic and age groups.
Our services include a 24/7 telephone
helpline, refuge and outreach/community based services.
Helpline Volunteers - yourSanctuary offers specialist services to women, men and children
affected by domestic abuse. We run a 24/7 helpline along with other frontline services such
as community outreach and refuge. Helpline roles can be office or home based and we
need volunteers to commit to a minimum two shifts per month. Full training and support is
provided. Female volunteers only please.
Helpline Volunteers (Office Hours): Based at our offices in Woking your will cover regular
four hour shifts each week. Offering confidential emotional and practical support to those
experiencing domestic abuse, you will also take refuge referrals, find refuge space and
signpost to other agencies. A calm and non-judgemental approach is essential. This is ideal
for those with an interest in issues related to domestic abuse.
Helpline Volunteers (Out of Office Hours): Based at home, you will be provided with a
mobile phone on which to take calls. The role will include offering confidential emotional and
listening support to callers, providing information and signposting to other services as
needed. A calm and non-judgemental approach is essential. Weekdays shifts from 5pm to
9am and weekend shifts from 9am to 1pm, 1pm to 5pm and 5pm to 9am although some
flexibility is available. Volunteers on overnight shifts are expected to sleep but need to be
able to wake up and take calls if necessary.
Budgeting and Debt Management Volunteer: Some people who come into our refuge do
so with a level of debt. We are looking for a volunteer with excellent finance and
communication skills to provide support in the area of budgeting and debt management to
those that require it. This may involve reviewing a residents financial situation and
discussing options, contacting companies, writing letters and putting together payment

Set up to be the voice of young people between 11-19 years promote events to raise profile

educate other young people in the area and be the main link between council, council
officers and peers. Youth Councillor - you will be expected to show a commitment to the
council, and attend monthly meeting and any events, training or other opportunities. You

Activity Break Residential Volunteer
The volunteers role is to join in with whatever fun and games the week may bring: to get
wet, sing, dance, laugh, play games, stay awake, ride bikes, climb, swim and lots, lots more!
Also, volunteers should be sensible and aware; help, listen, support, encourage and
mediate.
Your job is to be there for the children if they need it ... or even if they dont!
To give encouragement and support to a child who has low self-esteem.
To listen to a child who may be scared or homesick.
To enter into the child's world and be silly and have fun!
To understand that, generally, the child's behaviour is a direct result of the environment they
have just left. That is, after all, why a child comes to CCHF!
Our breaks are designed with children in mind so dont worry about the activities being too
strenuous or challenging. We want you to have a positive experience on our Breaks! So
please enjoy them!
To be a CCHF Volunteer you must:
Be over 18 years old. However, we welcome 16-17 year olds to work alongside other
volunteers and learn the ropes.
Be able to volunteer for 6 consecutive days or a weekend, attend training and stay with us
residentially.
Have completed a DBS check and be able to provide two reference checks before you
volunteer.
Enjoy working with children and have the energy, enthusiasm and empathy to work with
children from underprivileged and disadvantaged backgrounds.
Hopefully have fun, bring a smile and give the children a fantastic break
Excellent training and support
ACTIVENTURE
Activenture runs residential programmes for disabled/special needs young people for
typical activities to include: archery, canoeing, zip wire, abseiling, obstacle courses,
swimming, craft sessions, days out, live bands, karaoke and disco.
Residential Volunteers are needed for this very rewarding role, supervise young people
encouraging them to participate in activities and also give assistance and guidance with
personal care. You would need a good caring attitude with a get on with the job approach
and a strong sense of humour.
Residential Nurses needed during school holidays throughout the year at Woodrow High
House, Amersham and Hindleap Warren, Wych Cross, East Sussex. They require fully
qualified nurses to be responsible for the medical needs of the client during the week,
including medication, briefing night staff and record keeping in line with Activenture Policy.
Volunteers will also have the opportunity to participate in the activities of the centre.
Waking Night Volunteers are needed during the school holidays throughout the year any
night Sunday to Saturday. Volunteers are needed to care for their disabled/special needs
guests during the night. This may involve escorting to the toilet, or as directed by the
residential nurse. No previous experience is necessary, as experienced staff will be on hand
if required to support. Night staff generally work as a minimum of two people, so would be
ideal for a couple, otherwise an experienced partner will be provided.
Activities Organiser at Woodrow High House, Amersham, Bucks. Typical activities for all
those attending include: archery, canoeing, zipwire/abseiling, obstacle courses, and
swimming. The activity organiser will assist in the planning of indoor and outdoor activities
(such as craft sessions, days out, live bands, competitions, karaoke & disco) other than
those sessions supervised by our own outdoor pursuits instructors. Minimum age 18 years.
Helper (16+): This is a unique project with several volunteering roles available to
accompany young people with special needs on activity weeks and participating in the
activities. We are delighted to have been supported so keenly by the volunteering agencies

in the South East, and hope that the future will be just as successful. Despite our residential
centres being located in both East Sussex and Buckinghamshire, this has not put off
volunteers being willing to travel out of their immediate area, presumably as we cover the
cost of seven days accommodation, meals and activities many regard us as a week away
from home!
We would be very pleased to hear from any individuals or groups of volunteers whom would
be interested in joining Activenture for a residential activity week as companion helpers to
young people who are disabled or have special needs, during school holidays. We offer
volunteers free training, and a choice of twelve weeks during the year (generally during
school / college holidays). This has proven to be a very useful means to gain experience in
support of seeking further education and of course employment. Many volunteers utilise their
stay with us to complete their voluntary involvement and Duke of Edinburghs Award
residential project, however most of our regular volunteers simply return because they enjoy
this unique experience.
OVER THE WALL Holiday Camps
Over The Wall is a very special place for children who are affected by serious or life limiting
illnesses. It is the only residential camp in the UK structured on Paul Newman's renowned
Hole in the Wall Gang camp. Over The Wall gives children one glorious week of experiences
that are memorable, exciting, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound. It
rebuilds their confidence and most importantly is a place where they can just be children, not
children who are sick. As Paul Newman puts it "A place where kids can kick back, relax and
raise a little hell".
Camp Team Staff directly care for our Campers (not medical care), giving lots of positive
encouragement and support to the campers and treat them as 'special', not because they, or
their sibling, have been ill, but because they are children and young people, each with their
own unique gifts and talents.
Volunteering at an Over The Wall camp is great fun and hard work. The rewards at the end
of the week can be immense. Seeing the difference in the campers after just one week can
be amazing and tremendously satisfying. Time spent at camp makes a difference to the
volunteers, too! You will learn a lot about yourself, meet like-minded people and make new
friends!
WATERWAY RECOVERY GROUP WOKING
Waterway Recovery Group runs a programme of unique week-long residential volunteering
opportunities, known as "Canal Camps" designed to restore the derelict canals of England
and Wales to their former glory.
Volunteering with WRG is a great experience for anyone who loves being outdoors and
enjoys meeting people from different backgrounds and of different ages (18+). WRG offer
volunteers a chance to learn new skills such as bricklaying, stone walling, machine operation
and restoration techniques. Volunteers who want to get outdoors and dirty and help restore
the derelict waterways of Britain. No skills or experience necessary.
Each Canal Camp usually runs for seven days, each volunteer is asked to contribute 56 for
the week (or 8 per day) - towards the cost of their accommodation and the three meals a
day that are provided. Most accommodation, which is best described as basic, is in sports
centres, schools or village halls.
