ECVTL Setup Guide

1. Installation of VMware workstation or Virtual box

2. installation & ip assignment to Microsoft Loop back adapter.
3. configuration of bridge between Vnet0 & Loop back adapter.
4. unzip the image file ecvtl.zip & import Vmx to Vmware workstation
5. start & check your Virtual Tape library(ECVTTL)
6. configure the iscsi initiator at your base machine (windows 7/Xp)
7. check the tape library availability at device manager
8. installation of Legato/Netbackup for testing ECVTL(Not discussed in detail here)
1. Installation of VMware workstation or Virtual box:
Installation of Vmware workstation or oracle Virtual box is quiet easy so I am not given the details here.
Oracle virtual box is downloadable from https://www.virtualbox.org
& vmware workstation is downloadable from http://downloads.vmware.com.

Virtual box is available as open source project. Vmware workstation required license to install.

Once the loop back adapter installed , dont forgot to give an IP to it. For example 192.168.1.10 here
to communicate with virtual machine(192.168.1.60).
3. configuration of bridge between Vnet0 & Loop back adapter.

Go to : All Programs>>VMware>> Virtual Network Editor

Create the Bridge connection between Vmnet0 & loop back adapter

4. unzip the image file ecvtl.zip & import Vmx to Vmware workstation.
Now your Virtual machine adapter vmnet0 is bridged with loopback adapter.
Download the ecvtl.zip from 172.16.65.31 /ecvtl/ecvtl.zip
Unzip the ecvtl.zip (let it be at D:\
Open the D:/ECVTL/ecvtl.vmx at VMware workstation

Check the network setting of Vmware workstation(it should be choose as vmnet0)

5. start & check your Virtual Tape library(ECVTTL)

Now poweron the the ECVTL Guest OS.

After few second you will get the login screen

Login with root/root & check the followings
#lsscsi -g

to check the medium changer & tape drives

#mtx -f /dev/sg6 status

<<<< to check jukebox slot details

# tgtadm --lld iscsi --op show --mode target

<< to check the iscsi target details.

6. configure the iscsi initiator at your base machine (windows 7/Xp)

Now your VTL is ready to use. Install the iscsi initiator (if XP) , with windows 7 it is inbuilt. At iscsi
initiator give the ip of target (VTL machine 192.168.1.60).

Now your initiator can see one robot & 4 drives.

7. check the tape library availability at device manager
Then go to device manger & scan for new hardware to get the jukebox/medium changer & drives.

8. installation of Legato/Netbackup for testing ECVTL(Not discussed in detail here)
