victory with 19-14 win over
Perth
-----------------------------------------------------------Perth,WA | The Adelaide Falcons moved to a 3-1 record
after grinding out a 19-14 win over the Perth Cougars at
NIB Stadium.
The Falcons held the Cougars to just 129 yards
passing and they also forced the only turnover of the
game and that would be the difference. If we tried to be
anything more we would not have the record we have. Yes
we need to do more but that will come. Right now we just
need to concentrate on our game and our fundamentals"
said Coach Wayne Sing in responding to journalists who
suggested his side should be more attacking.
The first half was one big arm wrestle as both
teams worked for field position. There was no big play and
Perth were not looking the same team that had been
under Charlie Moore who was out injured. His back up
James Zelezniak did a solid job but on occasions was too
slow in getting the ball out and he missed several
opportunities to hit targets down the field.
The deadlock was finally broken after a long 17
play drive from the Falcons but they were stopped at the 8
yard line. Brodie Sullivan kicked the 25 yard field goal. The
Falcons got another chance with the ball and with time
outs in their pocket Sing allowed Quarterback Andrew
Mano to push the ball down the field. He got the team
into field position after just 6 plays and Sullivan again
kicked straight for the 6-0 halftime lead.
6-0 became 13-0 when Mano hit his tight end
Sam Crocker in the end zone from 19 yards out. Perth
rallied through Aaron Dobson who scored on a screen that
went for 25 yards before Sullivan kicked another field goal
for a 16-7 lead. Zelezniak through a touchdown pass to
American Tight End DC Jefferson as the game opened right
up in the final quarter. But the Falcons were able to hold
on and after a late field goal the defence shut down the
final Perth drive.
