Scope of Government Jobs in India

The Republic of India is known as the as the seventh largest country and the second most populous
country in the world with over 1.2 billion population. As a Southeast Asian country with huge number of
people, it is difficult for the Indian government to provide more job opportunities and cope up the high
demands. A job seeker whether he is an undergraduate, a graduate, or post-graduate is hoping to land
a job either in private and government sector.
Nowadays, India now is a one of the world's fastest-growing economies. The government sector played
a pivotal role in the employment rate both in public and private sector. In the recent economic standing
of India released by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the month of April, 2015, the country's
economy is worth US$2.306 trillion, named as 7th biggest economy by market exchange rates at
present.
Surprisingly, this year's status of government jobs is amusing. The government jobs have big
contribution in the overall economy. In fact according to a survey, more government employees are
becoming happier and satisfied with their employment rather than in the private sector employees.
Based on Statics, the job opportunities in the Indian government sector is as follows:

The organized sector in the country is composed of 293.77 thousands of industrial


establishments wherein over 172.34 thousands of these are government sector enterprises and
around 21.43 thousands belong to the private sector.

There are 251 Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) in India as of 2012

Two of the largest recruiting government sectors are the banking industry and railways industry.

Other sectors for government jobs include the military, education, home affairs, communication
& I.T, finance, and police/defense.

In India, PSU is a term use for a government-owned corporation in which the state companies or the
federal union government, or both, own a 51% or more of the company equity. The Ministry of Railways
has the highest rate of employment with 44.74% rating followed by the Ministry of Home Affairs with
24.14% rating, and the Defense Civilian sector with 11.77 %. From 30.99 lakh number of regular
employees, 3.11 lakh of these were composed of women.
On the other hand, the country offers a huge scope of employment at government banking jobs. The
public sector banks are having vast amount of vacancies due to resignations, expansion of businesses
and retirements. Compensation in the government banks plus the medical and housing facilities are also
quite attractive which create more interest for young people to choose the banking industry to start a
good career.

With the huge population of India along with the continuous birth rate, it is pretty obvious that the
government needs to take major steps to meet the high demand of job opportunities. People need
more jobs and the role of the government is to create more ventures both in the private and public
sectors. One thing for sure, the scope of government jobs in India at present will absolutely affect the
future performance of the country's economic condition.
