Easy To Use
Its no-nonsense user interface makes the Model 407
Controller easy to use. An easy to read multiline display, a
numeric keypad, and clearly labeled function buttons make
operation simple and intuitive. All adjustments are made by
a single programmable multiturn knob.
A Low-Cost Alternative
The Model 407 Controller is a low-cost alternative to
other, more powerful MTS controllers. It suits many
applications that simply do not require the sophistication
and power provided by other controllers in the MTS
family. However, it can be easily integrated with more
powerful equipment to serve your expanding needs.
Compatible
The Model 407 Controller is fully compatible with most
existing MTS test systems. In many cases, you can plug it
into your existing system and perform tests immediately.
PC Connectivity
Several Model 407 Controllers may be daisy-chained
together and controlled with user-friendly screens on a
personal computer running Microsoft Windows 95 or
Windows NT. LabVIEW applications are available, or may
be written, to provide exceptional testing functionality.
Portable
The compact size of the Model 407 makes it portable
and easy to move and reconfigure. It can be used as a
stand-alone controller, or configured as part of a group
of controllers.
Compatibility
The Model 407 Controller is compatible with most
mechanical testing equipment. It can be used to
replace an existing MTS or competitors controller
and is also compatible with other MTS technology
such as T/RAC and any version of RPC. Its autosourcing power supply automatically adjusts itself
for use with any voltage source from 85 to 250 VAC.
The Model 407 Front Panel: Easy Access to All Control Functions
All phases of operation are controlled through the
Model 407 front panel. An easy-to-read, multiline
display shows the status of the parameter currently
being adjusted or monitored. A simple scrollthrough menu provides quick access to any
parameter or function. All parameters are entered
through a simple keypad or adjusted by a single
multiturn knob. Parameters are displayed in any
engineering unit that you select.
Besides providing the means to adjust and
monitor the test parameters, the front panel also
provides program control, system hydraulic pressure control, and a hard-wired emergency stop

The Model 407 Back Panel: Easy to Connect and Configure for Your Test
The Model 407 Controller features a modular back
panel design that makes it easy to connect to your
test system and configure to your requirements.
It can accept up to three modular transducer
conditioners and one valve driver. Both AC and DC
transducer conditioners are available and can be
installed in any combination. Valve driver modules
are available to accommodate either two-stage or
three-stage servovalves.

Signal Monitoring

Function Generation
A function generator (with a built-in cycle counter)
is contained in the 407 Controller to provide sine,
square, triangle, and single ramp command
waveforms. For tests requiring complex waveforms,
the Model 407 includes an external command input
characteristics may vary over time. Its unique, dualmode control capability makes it especially useful
for tests where load control is difficult to achieve.
The amplitude control can be selected to operate
either the mean (set point) or amplitude (peakvalley, as in acceleration) or both the mean and
amplitude at the same time. Amplitude control
works with internally or externally generated sine
and triangular waveforms, over a frequency range
of 1.0 to 100 Hz.
