2-4 Principles
2-4-1 Photography principles
Slit light which enters the cornea gets through it and reaches the aqueous humor. Part of the light is reflected
on the front of the cornea in the boundary whose refraction index is different.
When the light reflected on the backside of the cornea is magnified, it can be observed as an image, because
the cells on the backside of the cornea are uneven.

Illumination
system (I)
S'
S
Arrange the illumination system (I) and the photography system (P) so that the normal line which is perpendicular to the cornea may divide into I and P equally. Consequently the light is reflected on the backside of
the cornea. Move the instrument while keeping the angles of I and P uniform so that the normal line may
divide into I and P equally. So the front reflection of the cornea (S'-S) and the backside reflection of the cornea (endothelium cells R'-R) can be observed.

Connect the synchroscope to the following test point of the I/O PCB, which corresponds to the relevant
motor. Start MOTOR P.I. CHECK and check if the signal is changed (LOW level HIGH level).
X motor: TP214
LOW level (near 0V) in normal status
HIGH level (5V) when the original point is detected
Z motor: TP217
LOW level (near 0V) in normal status
HIGH level (5V) when the original point is detected
Y motor: TP215
LOW level (near 0V) in normal status
HIGH level (5V) when the upper limit is detected
Y motor: TP216
LOW level (near 0V) in normal status
HIGH level (5V) when the lower limit is detected
If the signal of the test point is changed, it is highly possible that the I/O PCB malfunctions.
If the signal is not changed, it is judged that the relevant original point sensor malfunctions.
Replace the relevant original point sensor.
If the instrument is still abnormal though the above-mentioned check is done, it is judged that the relevant motor malfunctions.
Replace the relevant motor.
If the above-mentioned check or adjustment cannot be done, it is judged that the relevant PCB malfunctions.
XY alignment : Replace the XY sensor PCB or XY analog PCB.
Z alignment : Replace the Z sensor PCB.

(2) Automatic alignment operates but the endothelium is not photographed. (The image cannot be changed to
the endothelium one or it is difficult to change.)
[CHECK POINT]
1 Start FACTORY MENU Program and perform SOLENOID CHECK to check if the image is
changed.
If the solenoid is not turned ON/OFF, check the connection of J410 on the XY analog PCB.
If there is no problem in the light path selector mechanism, it is judged that the solenoid unit malfunctions. Replace the solenoid unit.
If the solenoid is turned ON/OFF, check if the XY alignment or Z alignment is properly adjusted.
If the above-mentioned check or adjustment cannot be done, it is judged that the relevant PCB malfunctions.
XY alignment : Replace the XY sensor PCB or the XY analog PCB.
Z alignment : Replace the Z sensor PCB.
40

(3) The image is stored but flash is not done. (The photographed image is very dark.)
[CHECK POINT]
1 Start FACTORY MENU Program and perform XE CHECK to check if flashing is done.
If the xenon lamp does not flash, check the connection of J215 on the I/O PCB.
If flashing is not done though the xenon lamp is replaced, it is judged that the I/O PCB malfunctions.
Replace the I/O PCB.
If the xenon lamp flashes, replace the xenon lamp or check the optical system light path and check if the
xenon lamp is stained.
(4) The image is not stored and flash is not done. (Alignment still continues.)
[CHECK POINT]
1 Check if XY alignment or Z alignment is properly adjusted.
If the above-mentioned check or adjustment cannot be done, it is judged that the relevant PCB malfunctions.

[Procedure]
Adjust the circuit sensitivity so that Z alignment can be detected correctly when the patient's eye
is aligned.

Carry out this adjustment just after "3-4-11 Adjustment of the Z alignment sensor position"
without changing the condition.
Remove the Z slit tool and set the Z projection system tool B.
Adjust VR1 (Z sensor PCB) so that the amplitude of the endothelium signal may be within
the standard on the oscilloscope.

R-SP3000P-1-0601-01
[Procedure]
Store the condition of the Z alignment circuit system in EEPROM so that the adjustment error of
the circuit system may be finally canceled. Unless this storing procedure is done correctly, the
position detection accuracy of the Z alignment cannot be obtained.

4
Carry out this storing procedure just after "3-4-12 Adjustment of the Z alignment sensor circuit gain" without changing the condition.
Press the [Image transfer] switch, and the value for "COUNT" is increased.
Then, the endothelium reflection position, "N", and the optical magnification "M" on the
sensor are displayed as the numerical values.
If the value for "COUNT" is not increased, the tools are not set properly or the Z alignment
circuit system is not adjusted correctly.
After storing, press the [Image transfer] switch to return to the selection display.

While the power is OFF, set VR201 of the I/O PCB to the medium position.
Set the tool base and the Z projection system tool B.
Connect the BNC video cable from the VIDEO OUT terminal to the oscilloscope. Set the
instrument so that you can observe one horizontal synchronization section.
Turn on the power. When the photography result display appears, observe the luminance
level of one horizontal synchronization section on the sample chart for 2000 through oscilloscope.
If the luminance level is out of the standard, adjust VR201 again, perform photography and
check the luminance level.
Repeat this procedure until the luminance level is within the standard. The VIDEO signal
level in "FLASH HIGH" should be a reference value.
The light intensity is increased by turning the volume clockwise.

[Procedure]
Store the correction value which is to be used for the final correction calculation in EEPROM so
that the absolute accuracy of the corneal thickness can be ensured.

3
Set the corneal thickness test eyes (three test eyes with different thickness) onto the chinrest
unit.
Select "GROUP-B PACHOMETRY ADJUST" in the "FACTORY MENU" program.
The corneal thickness of the test eye as a reference is displayed on the monitor screen as
shown below. Change the value with the [Chinrest up/down] switches and change the digit
with the selector switch to adjust finely in order to get the corneal thickness of the test eye to
be measured.
By using the [Image selector] switch, move to the approximate position of the test eye,
which is the target displayed on the screen. Measurement is performed ten times according
to automatic alignment.
Repeat the procedure of above 3 and 4 by using the three test eyes. The correction values
are displayed and they are automatically written in EEPROM. Then, press any switch to
return to the MENU display.

[Chinrest up/down] switches, align "UPPER" to the upper third square and "LOWER" to the
lower third square with the black point of the test eye chart as the center. Click the [Image
selector] switch to store the interval of the six squares on the test eye chart.
Press the [Photography] switch, and the mask slit inside dimension, which is calculated in
consideration of the optical magnification error, is stored.
