Universal
Universal is one of the biggest American production and distribution
industries in the world. Although Universal is a subsidiary of
Comcast, owned by NBC Universal; it also owns the most successful
British production company, Working Title, and is one of Hollywood's
"Big Five". Its production studios are at 100 Universal Citty Plaza
Driive in Universal City, California. Distribution and other corporate
offices are based in New York. Universal was founded in 1912 by the
German, Carl Laemmle, Mark Ditenfass and Charles O. Baumann.
Three of Universal Studio's classics include; Jaws (1975), E.T The
Extra-Terrestrial (1982), and Jurassic Park (1993) (all of which were
directed by Steven Speilberg) achieved box office records:each
became the highest-grossing film at the time of its initial release.
Sony Pictures Entertainment
Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) operates Columbia TriStar Motion
Picture Group, Screen Gems, Sony Pictures Classics, and TriStar
Pictures. The studio enjoyed its best year in terms of box-office
grosses in 2012, with its films collecting US$ 4.4 billion in ticket
sales. SPE has produced, distributed, or co-distributed successful
film series including Spider-Man, Men in Black, Underworld, and
Resident Evil.
