Plymouth Artist Visits

Kohler Elementary
Local artist David Peterman
and his assistant Judy provided
an extraordinary art experience
for Kohler students. The art
room was filled with excitement and anticipation as he
demonstrated the basics of airbrushing directly on student
faces! Students also learned
that he creates custom art on a
variety of surfaces. Some of his
amazing talent is featured at
Cosmic Bounce and Blue Harbor. Listening, talking and
working with David Peterman
was an excellent experience.

Sheboygan County to Hold
Public Open House for 2015 Sheboygan County Outdoor Recreation and Open Space Plan
The Sheboygan County Planning
& Conservation Department is
holding a public open house to
gather input relating to parks,
open spaces, and recreational opportunities for the 2015 Sheboygan County Outdoor Recreation
and Open Space Plan.
The Plan is an important tool
for local communities. It spells
out the future goals, priorities,
and certain land use layouts based
directly on input from the residents. Its update is especially important since much of the current
Plans content is out-of-date and,
even more critically, communities
rely on the Plan for eligibility for
certain grants. A proposed project
must be identified in a Countys
recreation plan in order to receive
priority for State funding, which

has made many of the outdoor assets around the County possible.
To help form the Plan, Sheboygan County is asking area residents to provide suggestions on
topics ranging from the best locations of future parks, to the need
for new pathways, to the availability of fishing opportunities.
Please note that the Plan focuses
on areas outside of the City of
Sheboygan, which has its own
plan.
Below are the details for the public open house.

Fondest memories growing up in
Kohler: Too many!
What was most memorable about
attending Kohler Schools, and
how did the education at KHS
help this grad attain their goals?
Even though I was somewhere in
the middle of my class with a 3.6
GPA, When I got to college and
tested out of basic writing and
math courses my new classmates
had to take, I knew I had an exemplary foundation. The most memorable thing really has to be the
sense of community, independence
and all of us knowing each other
from kindergarten through graduation and beyond. I hear things have
changed a lot in that way which
makes me sad.

What was most memorable about
attending Kohler Schools, and
how did the education at KHS
help this grad attain their goals?
Teachers who cared and developing
great friendships. I believe I received a broad-based, well-rounded
education. I not only learned academic subjects, but was also taught
how to study, responsibility and

However, I am not hand trained. The shelter is not

Board of Education Regular Meeting March 9, 2015

Call to Order
Marlene Yang called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in
the Kohler Public Library. Nancy Case called roll. The
following board members were present: Marlene Yang,
and Matt Kautzer. Diane Kelly, Christina Koberstein and
Nancy Case.
Statement of Public Notice
March 6, 2015
Approval of Agenda
Nancy Case moved to approve the agenda. Diane Kelly
seconded the motion. All ayes. Motion carried.
Board Presidents Report (Marlene Yang)
The Board members have signed a resolution on the
2015-2017 state budget and school funding. The resolution was sent to the governor, the state legislatures,
and the members of the joint finance committee. Marlene encouraged members of the board to attend open
sessions of joint finance committee for public input either on March 18 at Brillion high school or March 20 at
Alverno College.
Superintendents Report (Quynh Trueblood)
Congratulations to students for their fine performances
and we wish them the best of success in future competitions. We applaud the hard work and achievements of
our students and the ever important support of their advisors and families.
Madeleine Hoell for her exhibit of Coco Chanel and
Remy Havens for her exhibit of Liz Hartel in the National History Day competition. We wish Madeleine
and Remy the best of luck at state and thank Ms. Mona
LaBudde, Mr. Beyens, and Ms Rozymarynowski for
their work with the students.
Ms. Grossen and Ms. Rozmarynowksi helped to advance 12 students who will compete in the Future
Problem Solvers State Bowl in Green Lake in April.
Of a total of 172 performances by Kohler Middle and
High School Students at the Wisconsin School Music
Associations District Solo & Ensemble Music Festival,
99 performances earned a top rating of 1 and of those,
29 students have advanced to the state competition. We thank the music directors for their time and
energies.
Emma Herold and Jenna Silvestri for qualifying for
Junior National Swimming Championships. They will
compete in Orlando, FL, in March.
Sean Delahunt, member of the varsity West Bend coop ski team, qualified for state competition and following the 40th Wisconsin High School Ski and Snowboard
Championships.
132 students and 11 chaperones will attend the Music
Trip in Orlando FL this month. This trip is one that
many students talk about well into their years past
high school. It is made possible only by the leadership
of our music directors, generous support of the Performing Arts Organization, and parents who encourage
music practice and appreciation and even chaperone.
The district extends its appreciation to everyone involved.
I was delighted to serve on the food line of the Kohler
Police and Athletic League annual fundraising
cookout. The KPAL is a benevolent society supporting
the mission of the school and community. The district
greatly appreciates its continued support.
The unexpected passing of Bill Van Meer, Superintendent of New Holstein School District, is sobering. How
he spent his lifes time: teaching children, leading
schools, and building communities with prepared citizens, is reminder of the importance of staying focused
on, and true to, the school and communitys shared
purpose. This shared purpose began in the vision of
Horace Mann in the 19th century. Horace Mann established the American mindset that education should
more than learning for the advancement of sectarian
ends, that it be universal, non-sectarian, and free; and
that its purpose should include social efficiency, civic
virtue, and character. Kohler School District is an
American public school living in the vision of Horace
Mann. Before us tonight are board members, school
leaders, teachers, and community members who join,
with shared purpose, in the daily work of an American
public school.
Principals Report (Lori Neurohr)
Elementary News
Last week students in the elementary celebrated Dr.
Seuss birthday and Read Across America. I dressed like

the Cat in the Hat and was accompanied by Thing One

and Thing Two, Mrs. Theune and Mrs. Ingels. The front
page of yesterdays school section of the Sheboygan
Press featured students in Mrs. Bittners Kindergarten
class making oobleck, based on the Dr. Seuss book
Bartholomew and the Oobleck. Our second and third
grade students had a different Seuss-themed activity
planned for each day. On Monday, students read Happy
Birthday to You and could spend their Drop Everything
and Read time reading their favorite Dr. Seuss
books. Tuesday they read Fox in Socks and everyone
wore funky socks; Wednesday, the classes read All the
Places Youll Go and created a dream world using descriptive language; Thursday the Seuss book was One
Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and everyone was
treated to Goldfish crackers for snack. Finally, Friday
they read The Cat in the Hat and students were able to
wear hats for the day. Mrs. Stanley made some wonderful Seuss cutouts for student pictures last year, and we
were able to use them again this year for some fun pictures.
Middle School News
Our middle school students have been very busy preparing
for National History Day or NHD. National History Day is
an exciting academic enrichment program that helps students learn about historical issues, ideas, people and
events. Every year NHD frames students research within
a historical theme. The theme is chosen for its broad application to world, national or state history. It unites all
NHD participants and provides a structure for topic selection. The theme chosen for the 2014-15 school year was
Leadership and Legacy in History. This year, Kohler Middle
School had 25 - 7th graders and 22 - 8th graders participate in the Regional National History Day competition at
UW Green Bay this past weekend. Special congratulations
go out to the following students who will advance on to the
state competition: Emma Egbert and Cindy Zheng with a
group website; Sierra Fish and Mari Perez with a group
website; Cecelia Zielke and Grace Unger with a group exhibit; Nicole Konecke and Hannah Neist with a group exhibit; Ben Guesneau with an individual exhibit; Kelsey
Sbrocco and Mallory Keller with a group documentary; Kate
OLeary with an individual performance and Christian
Cantrell, Brian Zheng and Chris Zhang with a group performance. In addition, 3 special awards were earned by
our students. The Labor Award for the junior division went
to Bridget Bullard and Catilin Shaw and Kelsey Sbrocco and
Mallory Keller. The Northeastern Wisconsin Junior Division
Award went to David Benishek, Henry Jacobson, Carter
Knuth and Nikith Ramagoni. Many thanks go out to Mona
LaBudde and Matt Bayens for all of their hard working
preparing our students for the competition.
On the same day, 74 of our middle school band and choir
students participated in the Central Lakeshore Conference
- North District Solo & Ensemble Music Festival. State results will not be made available until after March 14th, as
many students will be performing Saturday at Sheboygan
South, due to a conflict with National History Day. Please
extend your appreciation to Rich Tengowski, Lori Hucke and
Wendy Kukla for all their hard work preparing our students
for this important day.

KOHLER FIRE
DEPARTMENT
BRAT FRY
On Sunday, May 3, 2015, the Kohler Volunteer Fire Department is having its annual brat fry at the Fire Station
from 11:00 am 6:00 pm. Heres a chance to enjoy some
great food and refreshments, and at the same time show
your appreciation to the firefighters who give so much
time and effort, and risk their own lives to make our community safer. Proceeds from the fry are used to purchase
special fire/rescue equipment, subsidize a portion of our
business and social expenses, support various community
youth programs, local area Fire/Rescue projects, and fund
a scholarship in Police/Fire Sciences.
Advance sale tickets are available from all members of the
Fire Department, and we will be selling door-to-door
throughout the Village in the weeks preceding the fry for
your convenience. The tickets cost $1, and are worth $1 in
trade at the fry, and also give you a chance at our nice selection of door prizes.
Thank you for your support! See you on Sunday, May

FROM POLICE CHIEF BILL RUTTEN

EMS Week May 17th-23rd
The Kohler Police Department is the Village of Kohlers
First Responder Unit. The police officers are either all
First Responders or Emergency Medical Technicians. The
Kohler Police Department in addition to responding to accidents, officers routinely respond to medical calls in the
Village and provide the first level of care until a paramedic arrives. The Kohler Police Department takes this
role very seriously and invests in training and equipment
to provide the best First Responder services it can. Im
proud of our officers and their commitment to this service
and I hope that you are too.
Bike Safety Day
The Kohler Police Department is again sponsoring the
Bike Safety Day on Saturday, June 6th at 12:30 pm. The
event is being held at the Village Hall. Licenses are required and are available for $2.50 for any bikes with
wheels larger than 16. Anyone that needs a license can
download the bike license form from
www.kohlerpolice.com and have it filled out before you
arrive. There will be forms available the day of, but it
would make that portion go more quickly. All participants
will receive an inspection of their bike, a free helmet and a
bike accessory. We will also be supplying free soda and
chips after the days events.

waste cart with the green lid only. Branches may be

placed at the curb for chipping.
Garbage, Recycling, Yard Waste Carts
The Public Works Department has received complaints
about residents not bringing in refuse carts from the street
at the end of the pickup day. Please be courteous to your
neighbors and help keep the Village of Kohler a neat and
beautiful place to live by bringing in your carts at the end
of the day.

A storable pool is any pool, which holds 1000 gallons of
water or more. Storable pools must be located 35 feet
from all lot lines and meet ALL electrical codes for the
