Style of the 80s

The style of clothing that were commonly worn in the 80s


were loose, puffy shirts with designs or slogans on them,
bright colors and expressive patterns, and casual
sneakers like L.A. Gear.
One distinctive style of music that emerged from the early
80's was glam or hair metal. It was called glam/hair metal
because it included loud heavy guitar riffs, and members
of hair metal bands styled themselves with big hair, and
tight outfits, like the glam rock musicians of the 70's
In 1981, the first music television channel, MTV, was
launched on TV, and featured free music videos by
record company. MTV became a new source of music
entertainment and pop music and culture.
Other genres of music that were prominent in the decade
were rap and hip hop which consisted of lyrically complex
content and beats, as well as pop music which generally
had catchy lyrics and upbeat rhythms.

In the early 1980's,


1. the first female congresswomen Sandra Day
O'Conner was elected in office under Ronald
Reagan.
2. Sally Ride was the first female astronaut sent to
space.
Then in the Mid 80's,
1. a hole was found in the Ozone layer
2. Famous American Artists of the time, like Michael
Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, and Hall and Oates
recorded the world-famous song "We Are The
World" for Africa
3. DNA is used to solve crimes.
In the late 80's,
1. America shoots down an Middle Eastern airliner
2. and finally in 1989, the internet was established.

Technology of 80s

The computer company IBM developed and released the


personal computer for a price of about 1.5 thousand
dollars in 1981.
Computers were originally large, high maintenance
machines, which cost millions of dollars and were often
used by office workers.
With the invention of the personal computer, consumers
could use computers for entertainment, research, and
other business from home.
Bill Gates and Allen Paul founded Microsoft together in
1976 and began working on project for IBM to create an
operating system for the companys newly-developed
computers, to run software and hardware 1981 Which
lead to the invention of Microsoft Disk Operating
System."

Microsoft eventually released a word processor called


"Microsoft Word" which is among the most use word
processors used even today.

Ronald Reagan

Ronald began was the 40th president of the United


Stated and served two terms fro the year 1981 to the
year 1989.
He was born and raised in Illinois, and studied
economics and sociology in Eureka College.
Reagan started his early career as an actor before
moving onto politics.
As President of the United States, Reagan was
successful in bring America back to a state of productivity
and peace.
His foreign policy included the SDI, which was the
installation of a series of missiles that would target and

destroy any enemy that sought to attack on American


soil.
Lastly, Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and the Queen
Elizabeth all agreed with Poland's solidarity movement
against the Communist takeover in the country.

The 80s was a time of


reinvention and
spontaneousness marked
with breakthroughs in
technology, newness in

style and art, as well as


changes in foreign
policies.
