Rail company Kiwi Rail Scenic Journeys operates a


popular overland service - The Northern Explorer
- between Auckland and Wellington. The journey
takes approximately 12 hours.
Interisland ferry services from Wellington also link
with their Coastal Pacific train service from Picton
to Christchurch.

By sea

Wellington is a coastal gateway between the


North and South islands, with regular ferry
services taking passengers and vehicles across
the Cook Strait.
