Freudenberg Group offers innovative textiles for the

automobile industry
Innovative Packaging for the automobile industry
Bangalore- 05 May, 2015: India is becoming increasingly attractive for
manufacturing companies. Automobile production is especially booming.
According to Quest Trend Magazine market research, Indias market share in
manufacturing has more than tripled since the turn of the century. Often
vehicle assembly takes place at more than one site large body shell parts for
example have to be transported to other factories for further processing.
Evolon, the Freudenberg Groups innovative microfilament textile ensures that
the parts can be transported safely. As a packaging material, Evolon protects
sensitive surfaces and prevents damage. A further application of the
microfilament material is in automotive acoustics. Here Evolon can substitute
heavy layer materials, thus contributing to weight reduction and absorbing
acoustic noise efficiently.
Evolon microfilament textiles are characterized by an ultra-soft and smooth surface.
Highly-sensitive surfaces are thereby protected and the smallest scratches and
textural indentations avoided, explains Subhamoy Banerjee, Senior Manager
Marketing at Freudenberg Nonwovens India Pvt. Ltd., the Indian company of the
Freudenberg Performance Materials, a Freudenberg Business Group. Additionally, C
Evolon textile bags are very popular among automobile suppliers for the transport of
synthetic molded parts as well as for lacquered or very complex parts.

The trick: split microfilaments

This application is possible due to the innovative manufacturing process developed
by Freudenberg. The unique, patented production process uses a high-pressure
water jet to split spun-bonded fibers, producing ultra-thin, endless microfilaments

which ensure that the fabrics are soft and supple. At the same time, as a result of the
water pressure, the fibers interlock with each other achieving a high degree of
density.
Such attributes make Evolon particularly suitable for automotive noise reduction.
With a minimal thickness of some 0.5 millimeters and a mass of only 100 grams per
square meter, Evolon is considerably thinner and lighter than previously used
materials. Thanks to the permeability of the enmeshed microfilaments, acoustic
noise is very efficiently absorbed. Evolon acoustic microfilaments are already used
in the USA; and they are currently being launched in Europe.
